Red Robin

My boyfriend and I had dinner here with another couple around 8 on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was not crowded even though it was "Jim Day." All Jims/JImmys/Jimbos could try the new Jim Beam burger for free just by showing ID! My boyfriend, was able to take advantage of this offer and liked the burger. He really liked the sweet bourbon glaze and said he would order it again.

The other burgers that were not bad at all, but they weren't anything to write home about, especially for the price. My guacamole burger could have been more flavorful. It would have been better with more seasoning on the meat itself, and with spicier guacamole. The other couple with us thought the burgers were OK. They both got sweet potato fries and really liked them.

We liked the fact that you can customize your burger. Red Robin has around five different types of bread to choose from, including whole grain, jalapeno, etc. You can choose from beef, a veggie patty, chicken, etc. The Red Robin website is really cool and lets you see the nutrition facts of your customized burger. Surprisingly, it was pretty easy to come up with a relatively healthy meal. They also offer broccoli and fruit as healthy side choices. Of course they have plenty of delicious fattening sides such as mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and steak fries.

The service was excellent. Our waiter was efficient and friendly. We would definitely eat here again, but with so many restaurants in Knoxville, I'm not sure when we will get around to it again.

Meksiko Cantina

I met a large group here last night for a photography club meeting. Meksiko has a separate room in the back that you can reserve for events. It was a good place for our meeting.  It would accommodate about 20 people comfortably.

This is just another typical Mexican restaurant, with nothing setting it apart from the crowd. The house margaritas were nothing special and were weak. One of my friends got a top shelf margarita and she wasn't that impressed with it either. The salsa wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't bad.

For my meal, I had the red fajitas with chicken. The red fajitas have a chipotle seasoning on the meat, while the regular ones don't. I can't compare the two since I haven't had the plain version. The meat didn't seem that spicy on its own, so I wonder if there really is that much of a difference or if they just messed up and forgot the chipotle seasoning.

The refried beans on the side weren't as hot as I would have liked, but lukewarm sufficed. The scoop of guacamole on the side was fresh and pretty enjoyable. The meal was nothing to phone home about, but it was solidly decent. The portion was large. I took half of it home and I will be eating it for dinner tonight.

The service was very slow, but I'll give them a free pass for that since we were such a large/confusing group. Everyone had separate checks, etc. They forgot to bring out my tortillas at first and I had to wait a few extra minutes for them.

I checked in on Foursquare. The special was a free dessert for first time check-ins. Our server didn't check up on us often, so I didn't get a chance to ask for the free dessert. One of the other members of our group had the same deal on her phone. She wasn't able to claim it either.

I would only go back here if someone else wanted to meet me there, but it won't be a destination for me. There are too many other Mexican restaurants in the area that I would like to try first.

This is a good place, like pretty much any other Apple Store. I have gone in here to browse and check out the latest gadgets a few times. This place is almost always packed, but they have plenty of geniuses on hand to help customers.

I usually don't buy anything here. I just fondle and ogle the goods. Then I go home and buy online so I don't have to pay sales tax. I do love the fact that if I need to have warranty work done or exchange something, this place is right around the corner, conveniently located in West Town Mall.

The other day my wireless keyboard died, and I brought it in for an exchange. I was in and out in literally about 60 seconds! The guy who helped me was efficient and friendly. I like the fact that they will just email you your receipt instead of wasting paper on a physical copy. It's also very cool that they did the entire exchange via wi-fi. I didn't even have to go to the back registers and stand in line.

Dragonfly Lounge

It was a rainy Sunday night in Cleveland and my parents and I were in town visiting family for a few days. We were on the hunt for some good cocktails and had heard good things about both Dragonfly and Velvet Tango Room. VTR is closed on Sundays, so Dragonfly it was. I'm glad VTR was closed, because we had a great experience at Dragonfly!

Upon entering, we were greeted with a glass encased wall of funky martini glasses illuminated by colored lights. We took a seat at the bar, which was modern, but inviting. The cocktails and service were excellent; The prices were very reasonable, considering the quality. All the fruit juices were freshly squeezed - no nasty day glo prepackaged sour mix here. The bartender, Kindra was personable, knowledgeable and made great recommendations.

I tried the Blinker first, since it's hard to go wrong when rye whiskey and raspberry syrup are involved. Kindra warned me that a lot of people find it too strong, but that made it sound even more appealing. It didn't disappoint. I was tempted get a second one, but my desire to try something else won.  I ordered a Sazerac, which was also delicious. However, the Blinker was my favorite.

My mom had a Singapore Sling and a Boston Sour. Mom wasn't sure if she'd like the Boston Sour (because it had egg whites in it), but Kindra convinced her to try it, and she enjoyed it. She also enjoyed the Singapore Sling, which was a classic she hadn't had in years. We tried to get my dad to try something new, he ordered his usual Budweiser. Even it was served with care in a nice frosty glass (sans a snobby attitude, which is refreshing, and sadly unusual in a lot of nice establishments.)

We enjoyed chatting with Kindra as we savored the masterfully prepared drinks. The host was fun also. He had an iPad and actually noticed that I checked in on foursquare and came over to make sure we got the special (which was a free order of edamame.) He was also a very fun fellow to chat with.

The dining area looked really nice and the menu seemed interesting. We will be back the next time we're in town. I look forward to trying the food (and washing it down with a couple more cocktails.)

I love The Market! The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and this awesome place carries tons of local products (including a great selection of meats).

Today they were having a 50% off sale on frozen elk, lamb, bison and duck. I was able to pick up two bison t-bones for just over ten bucks! Very good deal! I would suggest joining their mailing list and checking their website for special offers.

I also grabbed lunch at the Lunch Counter. I  had the "Scotty Dog", which is a 1/4 lb. bison dog topped with slaw, chili and cheese. It was delicious! I can't wait to try some of their other lunch offerings.

They also have a lot of interesting sodas. I had a Boylan's Diet Orange Cream Soda with my lunch, and I also bought a Boylan's Diet Black Cherry for later.

The Tomato Head

Tomato Head is one of my favorite restaurants in Maryville. I've been here for lunch with my co-workers several times, usually selecting one of their many varieties of sandwiches. My favorite so far has been the Roger Roger, which has tofu, red pepper hummus, spinach and Monterey Jack cheese. The Tuscan Chicken Sandwich and Veggie Burger are also very good. Tomato Head's menu has lots of good choices for vegetarians and health-conscious customers.

I have tried a couple of the desserts. Their peanut butter pie is great, but their Orange Creamsicle Vegan Cupcake is probably one of the best desserts I have ever tasted! Even though I try to avoid sweets most of the time, I will be trying more of their Vegan Cupcakes (and savoring every delicious calorie).

The only downside to Tomato Head is that it is pretty pricey. The day I got a sandwich, cupcake and coffee, my bill was over $15, not including the tip. I think the food is worth the money, but I'd stop in more often if it were a tad less expensive.

I'm glad to see something like this in downtown Woodstock! The rooftop bar is really awesome and I love the modern design. Right now they are only serving drinks on the top level, but in the next couple of weeks they will be serving food up there as well. The lower level is already serving food, but I did not check that part out. Hopefully the food at the Woodstock location will be as delicious as the food at the Alpharetta location.

Their margaritas are great and come in tons of flavors, but they are sort of pricey, especially considering how small they are.

Crazy Mullets Super Salon

I was just visiting Cleveland and I happened upon this place. I thought the name was hilarious, and I needed a trim so I walked in. I thought it was great that they were able to take a walk-in for a cut and color immediately! Usually, the lack of customers would make me nervous, but it was in the middle of the day on a Wednesday or Thursday, so it didn't bother me.

Tara cut my hair and helped me pick a pretty cool red color for it. I'm really happy with the cut. I don't really do much to it at all besides dry it and it falls into place. The color looks pretty cool too, but I've washed my hair about six times since I visited and I'm still seeing pink stuff on my towels.

I wish this place was closer to my house! It was a little more reasonable price-wise than what I'm used to here in Atlanta. I also thought the salon itself looked really awesome. They even had a mullet wig on display! I will definitely go back if I am in need of a haircut next time I'm in the area.

Zucca Bar & Pizzeria

A friend and I decided to stop in around 9:30 on a Thursday night. We wanted to go to Mellow Mushroom, but it was already closed, so I suggested Zucca as an alternative. I was pretty eager to try it since I live within walking distance.

The restaurant itself looked really nice. It is in a brand new brick building and is decorated nicely. The booths have individual flat screen TVs, which is sort of neat, although apparently they didn't have high-def cable or satellite service for those. The picture looked like complete crap. The larger flat panels on the walls were a lot better though. They also had a pretty pleasant looking patio area.

Now onto the bad stuff. First of all, it took forever for us to get our food, even though we were the only customers. Our waiter had attitude problem, he was not familiar with the menu at all, and he was not attentive. He acted kind of annoyed that we were there.

We went ahead and ordered. My friend ordered a pizza and I went for a pasta dish called Casa Arrabbiata.

About ten years later, the pizza came out. The waiter forgot that I ordered pasta, so I had to wait a few more minutes on it. I'm not sure how he forgot when he was only waiting on two people.

The food wasn't great, but it was edible. It was a little bit too bland for my taste. I usually don't really care about the prices of things when I eat out, but I thought 14 bucks was a little bit too much to pay for such a boring pasta dish. It didn't even come with bread.

The pizza wasn't terrible, but we were not blown away by it. Again, it seemed a little bit overpriced. For pizza in this area, I prefer Gondolier (better quality and better price).

In conclusion, I might try this place again during a busier time, just because it is close to home and has a full bar. I think our bad experience had a lot to do with the fact that it was late and no one was there. However, that still is not an excuse for the pitiful experience we had.

Atlantic Grill

I seriously think this was the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. I usually don't expect too much from bar food, but I do expect it to be edible.

My friend and I stopped here on a Wednesday night after doing some shopping at the new H&M (to me, the only exciting store in Atlantic Station). After checking out most of the menus posted at other restaurants, we decided that this looked like the best place to get a quick bite and something to drink.

With it being a Wednesday night, we thought there might be drink specials of some sort. After waiting a good five minutes for  a server to show up, I inquired about the specials. To their credit, they were offering half off of any bottle of wine. We still wound up ordering a couple of mixed drinks, which tasted fine, but were weak. I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and didn't even feel a buzz after having the whole thing. It also took about ten minutes to get our drinks after we ordered them. The place was not crowded at all. If we wanted more drinks, I think it would have been too much of a challenge to order them.

We were pretty hungry, so we decided to order some queso dip as an appetizer. The cheese dip wasn't even as good as the Sam's Choice brand salsa con queso that I buy at Walmart. It was really bland. Meh. We put hot sauce in it and ate it anyway.

After another long wait, we finally got our bison burgers. I ordered mine medium and my friend ordered hers medium rare. Both of them were actually cold when we got them. You could tell they were just frozen patties. The cheese wasn't even melted on either burger. Neither of us had ever sent back food in a restaurant before, but we had to send these back. The waitress was very nice about it and brought the burgers back quickly. They were warmer, but mine was overcooked and dried out...my friend's was still undercooked. We both ate about 1/3 of our burgers and couldn't stand anymore. They just tasted like cardboard. The fries were pretty tasty, but the onion rings were just some kind of disgusting watery mush.

If the service here were better and they had some drink specials, I'd stop in for a drink, but that's about it. I won't be back, especially considering this fiasco cost us $45 plus tip! I would have rather spent that money at H&M.
