Sushi Imari

My only issue with this place is that it's never opened when I'm around to eat there, specifically Saturday afternoon's and Sundays.

When I do make it when their open, it's always a great time. The sushi is good, especially for the price and the service is excellent.

Not sure if it's my classic good looks or what, but they almost always bring out extra pot stickers, onion rings and various other goodies for me to try on the house. And the little scoop of ice cream that they bring out at the end is awesome.

It's a hip spot, inexpensive and tasty.

So far I've only been here for their Breakfast Buffet but I can already see it becoming a Sunday ritual. $17.99 for bottomless champagne, an amazing variety of foods and great selection of desserts.

Omelette bar, pancakes, taquito's...a bunch of stuff that I don't know the names of but were all fantastic and an amazing "french toast" that is simply unforgettable.

Looking forward to checking out their Taco Tuesday and cannot wait for next Sunday to go indulge in their breakfast buffet.

Ecco

Since moving to Irvine from San Francisco I've been constantly disappointed in the food quality in OC.  That is, until I came to Ecco.

Good lord this place is awesome. FANTASTIC wood-stove pizza. I can barely pronounce most of the ingredients (this is classy pizza) but it tastes phenomenal.

It's pricey though. $15 - $17 for a pie that will feed two people and probably leave you hungry if you dont get any apps or salads. I usually order two pizzas and a caesar salad for my wife, son and I.

Place looks great and has an awesome vibe. Hands down my favorite place in the OC to eat.

I don't care if its a chain restaurant, Lucilles is fantastic.

Biscuits w/Apple Butter
Baby Back Ribs
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
BBQ Beans
Hot Links

...All fantastic. The only thing I've had there that was just average has been the Mac n Cheese. Plus, thanks to Lucille's I've learned that  that I like drinking Soda out of Mason Jars.

Pro tip: Go to the Costco across the street and buy the Lucille's $100 gift card for $79.99.

Pro tip 2: Order the Backyard Family specials if you have a group of 4 or more. It's more than enough food for great value.

Varsity Driving Academy

Growing up in San Francisco, there's rarely a need to drive. So when we moved to Orange County it was finally time for my wife to get her license. I am genuinely frightened for my life to ride with her, so I figured it was better for all of us to have a professional teach her.

I found Varsity Driving Academy through Yelp and immediately called up and scheduled an appointment for her. And then another, and then another. Each time her Instructor Walter positively encouraged her, taught her proper driving procedures and really made her a confident and safe driver.

Just earlier this week Walter took her to her DMV driving appointment where she successfully passed the test on the first try.

tl;dr This driving school is affordable and their instructors are fantastic.

Cinnamon Pizza, Cinnamon Pizza, Cinnamon Pizza.

You've already kicked your diet to the curb if you're thinking about ordering from this place or at least somehow justified making today a cheat day. So since you're at peace with it "going straight to your thighs", order the Cinnamon Pizza for dessert. It's worth the extra 5 miles you'll have to do on the treadmill tomorrow morning.

The pizza, it's alright. Not the best ever, but definitely a decent slice. The buffalo wings are pretty good too.

But seriously, cinnamon pizza.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market

Everyone I've talked to has said the same thing about this store: Disappointing.

The Albertson's that previously occupied this space was great. It was large and convenient. Their customer service lacked, but it was a great grocery store.

I think everyone was expecting the same thing with Fresh & Easy, except hopefully a little more like Trader Joes.

Instead, it's utilizing half the space of the Albertson's and it's only self-service checkout. There's no Checker's there like at a normal grocery store. Self-checkout is always a long process and I have yet to meet someone who prefers it over having someone else check and bag everything.

The selection of food is decent, but given the self-checkout I can't see myself every doing serious grocery shopping here, instead stopping by when I need one or two items.

Bummer.

Hooters

There's only two establishments that I have vowed to never eat at again: Arbys and Domino's. I've stood strong for 5 years now and will remain strong. After visiting this Hooters I've decided to add it to my list of places to never eat at again. It's that bad. Really.

After hearing about this "All-You-Can-Eat Wings" night I finally decided to give in and go stuff myself with big juicy wings, plate after plate being served hot right to my table. In reality, the wings were tiny and just didn't taste good. They gave me a plate of 10, then when I wanted more would take another 15 minutes to prepare. All you can eat stifled by 15 minutes of wait time between each plate. I tried to order more wings when they brought out my current plate to speed up the process, but their policy is that the customer has to start eating their wings for a few minutes before they can put another order in. Regardless, you're waiting at least 15 minutes for more wings;  on all you can eat night they aren't constantly churning them out.

tl;dr bad food, lame service.

Hands-down the most amount of fun I've had in a long time. A unique experience that everyone should enjoy at least once.

The only problems I have with it are:
  1. The stench from the shoes you have to wear is nauseating. I felt dirty even touching them. It makes rented bowling shoes seem clean.

  2. Nearly all the lockers to store your shoes/keys/watches/wallets in are broken. They don't close or lock at all.

Going to keep this short and sweet. Lou's is a fantastic spot. There's always parking, they are super nice, free wifi and the sandwiches are absolutely delicious!
