haha, I'm just WAITING to get the crazy psycho waitress who yells at everybody.
I will say though...most of the food..if not ALL of it, makes me think..BOXES! It's all boxed stuff. I've always had excellent service from this place though.
One run-in that kinda erks me is I get my main course before our party has finished our appetizers. That kinda gets under my skin. I think the waiters are trained to kinda peek and see if their apps are done and THEN serve the food, right? Hmm..maybe not.

Yelp Elite Event @ The Highball
Category: Local Flavor
Neighborhood: 78704 (South Austin)
The Highball Staff was amazing. They were very nice, and attentive. They didn't make anybody feel like they were a burden.
Upon exploring the Highball, we found that there were numerous karaoke rooms. This was so cool to me, definitely the first time I'd ever seen/heard of a private karaoke room. The bathrooms were very clean and nice, and the bar...oh my gosh, THE BAR!!! Amazing! I loved how old fashioned and classy everything looked. Very elegant and impeccable decor all around!
Oh yea, and how about those shrimp cakes!? HEAVEEENNN!
This event was killing 2 birds with one stone, my first Elite Event and finally being able to go to The Highball.
I've decided. I will be back, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next event to mix and mingle. Thank you so much for such a fun evening!
Typically this place is jam packed during the weekends..just like all the other bars downtown. I usually walk by thinking...I wanna go there, but then quickly change my mind because people are POURING out of the bar or waiting in line to get in.
Going out on a Tuesday night is usually my opportunity to actually check places out, and see the ''regulars''. This is a very Cheers-type place. Everybody knew each other...most people were regulars and it was a cool environment.
The crowd that was here is what got my attention. It was a more mature crowd that was here. The music was on, but not too loud and we could hear each other. It was pretty nice.
We sat, and our bartender...was very short. It wasn't very busy, but for the sake of a tip...make a little conversation, right? He seemed like he was rushed and we were kinda consuming his time. All the while...there was only 5 people altogether at the bar. Hmm-who knows.
Moving on...we have a beer and decide to order an appetizer. Six doesn't provide the Appetizers...The appetizers actually come from Spaghetti Warehouse. We ordered a chicken pizza, with artichoke hearts, and spinach..it was amazing. When our bartender brought it out to us, he was very nice and wasn't as...rushed as he appeared to be at the beginning. He even sat with us and chatted for a while. I feel that he redeemed himself by doing this. It made the experience so much better.
Moderately priced beers/drinks, and great apps. Go see 'em!
I will return and explore the second floor next time. :)

I love how this place is big! There's two bars inside, and one outside on the patio. YES, this place does get packed during the weekends. The only thing that worry's me about this place...are those pesky little steps. There's steps to each room and provided that most people are drinking here...I've seen a lot of people fall on these. Other than that, they have very decent priced drinks and you can't help BUT take advantage of their Sunday Funday specials.
Can't go wrong with a $1 Mimosa!

Emo's

I will start off by saying this may be the only venue where you can actually be up close and personal with the performers. You aren't held back by doormen or bouncers. It's pure, here! Right up front, where the artists reach down and slap hands with everybody...LOVE IT!
We were here for an underground metal band. i had to potty as I took complete advantage of the cheap beers! ;) On my way to the girl's room, there was another show going on inside, and it was a lot more mellow. I stopped for a few and enjoyed but then headed back out as I was feelin kinda rowdy. hehe, and jumped in the pit. Okay, I didn't really jump in the pit, but the music was just amazing. I really like that the beers aren't OVERpriced as most music venues tend to do when a show is going on. Cool dive bar. We chatted a bit with the band that was here, they were from Montreal, and they mentioned that Emo's was very similar to the bars back home. Kinda intrigued me to check out Montreal! haha. Great place for music, and they usually have big name bands perform here ...as well as underground. Check it out!

That's a very common suggestion in my group of friends. For some reason I wasn't intrigued to check it out for a while. Last night I finally gave in. We venture downtown on a cold November night. Alas, we arrive! :)
Upon opening the door, there's a stair case that goes down. Very similar to Barcelona's entry. We get to the bottom and it's dark, warm, and cozy! I was looking around thinking...ohmigosh! This is so cute! We sit at a table and have a couple and just converse! It was so comfortable, we could hear each other, and the staff was super nice! Kinda felt like I was at home, hanging out with friends, with the music in the background, and just talking.
I'm in totally crushing on this place. Making it's way to one of my fav venues.... I hear they have great happy hour as well. We shall see. :)
I came here with a group of 8 friends and it was super slammed! To our surprise, there was no wait. Sweet! I thought for sure we'd be seated soon but it'd take FOREVER to get service..that was clearly not the case. After being seated we got our drinks within the first 10 minutes of being sat. EXTRA SWEET!
Since it was our first time here we decided to order an appetizer with a variety of yummy delights and an order of wings to all share! hehe...we got the fried pickles, fried macaroni, cheese sticks, an order of wings, and artichoke and spinach dip with chips. The artichoke and spinach dip was so good. The fried pickles didn't impress me. They were not half as good as Hooter's. Sorry guys! The fried macaroni looked kinda scary to be honest. I couldn't even eat it, it didn't look good at all. Yuck!
We went on ahead and tried a few of their drinks..I can't remember what it was called, but it was green and served in a big mason jar. It was super sweet and did not have a hint of liquor in it. Maybe the sugar overpowered it. It was way overpriced.
Plucker's, good food, crappy and super sweet drinks. GREAT service! I will return and try it again. :)
Not by the selection, cause god knows the selection is endless here. I was disappointed because I asked a worker if they by chance had any gloves. Dressy evening gloves for a dress. The girl I asked was very short, said no and walked away.
I continued on my search for other accessories when I came across another worker who offered to help me find anything. I mentioned to her about the glove situation and she says "We have them, they're out in our back office, we're not putting them out till next week" I just nodded and said okay and started walking away and she says "that doesn't mean I can't accommodate a paying customer"! That quote...SOLD ME! To hear those words and that helpful attitude she had was so great.
I'm glad they were able to recover as I was thinking whilst browsing that I wont be returning anytime soon because of the first rude girl. Thank goodness there are still nice people out there! hmph!

Oh em geeeee!!!
I stopped by here with some friends to accessorize for outfits for the weekend. I must say, I'm not a big accessory girl. I'm not into the necklaces or anything like that. I don't even have my ears pierced. But then, DUN, DUN, DUNNNNNN!!! I visited the infamous Charming Charlie. This place made me want to get my ears pierced. I also really liked how everything is organized according to color. If you're in a rush for that last little piece to make the puzzle complete, just find your color section and search! Makes it easier!
Anywho, the accessories were great, but what really stole my breath were the bags. I'm a total sucker for bags, big ones. Bright ones, or even the small clutch. Ladies. If you're bag psycho like I am...GO HERE! It's hard to find cute white bags/purses...and this place has BEAUTIFUL white purses. I will say, they're pricey, but SOOOO cute. I am definitely going to invest in one of these.
I took a girlfriend of mine here for her birthday. I gave her a little shopping spree with a budget of $30. She found MOUNDS of accessories! I was pretty surprised, she was quite the scavenger!
P.S. They have pretty good sales, and specials on Thursdays!
Check em out, ladies!

We came here last night for a friend's birthday gathering and noticed how crazy packed it was...I was like, "okay..I haven't been downtown in a while..it'll do" so we get to the bar and order drinks...$2 Long Island Special?! Heck yea! The Long Islands were a hit or miss, some were proportionally made, and some were WAY sweet. Anyway, decent bar I must say!
