Burt's is good, and mostly lives up to the hype.
If you plan on going, read the reviews! They're accurate and most of it is requisite reading before trying to eat there.
Burt's is one of those places where the experience is as memorable as the food. We sat there, 3 total occupied tables, and watched them turn-away a constant stream of people who didn't call-ahead, or otherwise were not considerate in their approach. It's a novelty.
My great contribution to the Yelp! community are the scans of the menu above - after all, how the hell are you supposed to pre-order from a place where you don't know what they have!?
Enjoy, Chicago's version of the Seinfeld soup nazi...

I think I understand why the reviews are so polarizing for VH.
On one hand, the place is basically Disneyland for booze. Most everything, right down to the ice is different. Further, at $12 a cocktail - it's really a good value when compared to places which are charging $20 for a Belvidere Tonic. Goes without saying that the room is swanky and with the guidelines for seated guests only it will never seem crowded.
On the flip-side, if I had waited an hour in that hallway followed by another 30 minutes for my first drink... this would have been a very different review. Simply, I would have been hugely disappointed - nothing is THAT cool.
So, in total - I think VH is the sort of place that, even if you love it, you'll go 3 or 4 times and then be over it. In the meantime, get a seat at the bar and learn some of the history and background of what they're doing, it's pretty cool stuff.

Went for mothers day brunch and walked away completely satisfied. What a great meal. I had the egg sandwich which was divine, plus shared in a cheese flight. Wife/mom had an awesome looking breakfast pulled-pork egg burrito which also got top marks. Drink flights are fun and interesting too. Service was relaxed but very efficient. Really I just don't have a single thing to complain about.
1 Star? Give me a break! That's unfair and totally undeserved.
I'll give it a solid 5 stars to offset that nonsense. Typically I would give it 4 or 4 1/2.
The food here is exceptional by the standards against which it should be judged. I would take this over the other local choices every time -- Yu's Mandarin, Fortune Kookie, etc.
Go into this place on a weekend evening or before game time, 1 hour+ carryout waits and a full house. Hardly the signs of a 1* rating.
Don't take my word for it though, also see the review for Yen Yen in Arlington Heights, its the sister restaurant.

This place did it, by pairing some weird fleshtone stuff together with undercooked fries at a recent street fest. Too make it just a little more frustrating, they were serving 3 total menu items: plain hot dogs, fries w/optional cheese, chicken nuggets and still managed to keep me (1 of 4 people waiting) standing around for 10 minutes.
This adds to 1-2 non-stellar experiences in their restaurant. There are plenty of better local hot dog joints, this place is a pass.
