David's Bridal

Having been in 3 weddings other than my own, I am no stranger to buying a bridesmaid dress. David's Bridal is a great option for the bride that wants either a) all of her bridesmaids to wear the same dress or b) the same color, different styles.

I am honored to be in wedding #4 this summer and so once again I come to David's Bridal to get a dress. Luvkily, my bride falls into category B mentioned above. We made an appointment for 1:30, but we ended up finishing our lunch early so we came to DB early. They told us we'd have to wait for our appointment time, even though we could see there were stalls open. I'm sure they had their reasons but others in my party didn't think so, so we ended up bumrushing two fitting rooms and trying on dresses, lol. The ladies in the store were very gracious about it although I'm sure they were annoyed with us.

Honestly, if you've been to DB before, you don't need a consultant helping you try on a bridesmaid dress. By now I know the routine and was able to find a dress pretty quickly. If you haven't been to DB before, you might want a consultant to help you. One of the girls in my party fell into this category, she had lots of questions about alterations, colors, blah de blah.

The bridesmaid dresses aren't the cutest things out there, but they're fine and since my bride got her dress here we got $20 off coupons, which is a nice touch. I liked some of their shoe selections so when I come back to pick up my dress, I may end up buying my shoes here, too.

ONE THING I thought was weird: if you buy your dress at a certain store, they will not ship to another DB location. One of our bridesmaids lives in the Bay Area and they would not let her buy the dress at the Orange location and ship to the Bay Area location. I thought that was kind of stupid, but that's their policy so keep that in mind if you have bridesmaids that live far from you.

Came here about a week ago to have lunch with some girlfriends. I was actually really surprised that the place was not busy at all for lunchtime on a Saturday, especially since this is a mall location. A couple of us ordered salads and a couple of us ordered tacos. I thought my salad was just fine, the server got my requests right (no bleu cheese, dressing on the side) and he was prompt with drink refills. I just thought the food wasn't that good. The ladies that ordered tacos liked them a lot. I don't make it a habit to come to any CPK location and this experience did nothing to help or hurt that opinion.

The short: My husband and I came here last night with a Groupon for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! Yummy wine, yummy food, reasonable prices, great service and romantic ambiance!

The long: How refreshing it is to find a restaurant like this in the Temecula Valley. I saw a Groupon for this restaurant a few months back on Groupon, checked out the Yelp reviews and decided we would try it for our anniversary. When we arrived I was pleased with the ambiance, not too bright and not too dark or loud, perfect for a special night out for our anniversary.

When we were seated we let our server know that we had a Groupon. Usually that is the kiss of death (in my experience, as soon as you tell the server you have a Groupon, the service goes down hill and they just want to get you out of there as quickly as possible... for good reason. Grouponers have a deserved bad rep). However, our server was very courteous, she explained to us exactly what we got with our Groupon and answered our questions. I also appreciated that our server recommended appetizers and desserts that weren't included with our Groupon.

First up: Ahi Skewers appetizer. I LOVED these! They were cooked perfectly (seared, raw in the center) and served with a yummy BBQ-type sauce.

Wine: included with our Groupon was two glasses of wine, we had the choice of Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon. No contest for me! The Cab she served us was DELICIOUS, I ordered a second glass once I finished mine off. And the pours were VERY generous.

Salad: Our Groupon came with a salad for each of us, so we ordered the mixed greens salad. A little heavy on the dressing, but very yummy!

While we were waiting for our entrees a server came by carrying a basket with rolls in it, I thought that was cute haha. They were SO YUMMY! I believe they are homemade, they tasted homemade anyway.

Entrees: I had the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp, with rice and asparagus. Husband had Shiitake Crusted Chicken with Madeira Wine Sauce, Truffle whipped potatoes. It also came with asparagus. He didn't notice anything shiitake about the chicken and the asparagus was a tad undercooked, otherwise he thought it was good. My asparagus was also a little undercooked, but I thought my shrimps were good and they gave you a fair amount of shrimp as well. The sauce on top was creamy and yummy.

Lastly, dessert. Husband had the Sweet Potatoe Pie which he thought was too sweet and probably not made from scratch. I had the Chocolate Raspberry Bread Pudding a la mode, it was so yummy.

Overall we had a wonderful time and really liked the food. We will definitely be back!

Chipotle

Normally I avoid Chipotle because their burritos are crazy high in calories, but driving home from Vegas I decided to make an exception.

This Chipotle location is wonderful. Even though they were super busy, that didn't stop them from offering excellent customer service. The place was clean, including the bathrooms, and the food was good, too. My husband and I wrapped up the remainder of our burritos to take home, and while he was waiting for me to use the restroom, a manager noticed him and asked if he needed a bag for them. I was very surprised someone even noticed him given how busy they were (lunch time on a weekday).

Normally I stop in Baker on my way to/from Vegas, but I may have to stop at this Chipotle next time!

My husband booked tickets for us to see their production of The Nutcracker Ballet on Sun, Dec 18th at 6PM. We got a notification saying that their 6PM performance was cancelled, would we like to see the 2PM instead? That still happened to work out with our schedule, so we agreed... except instead of them applying our old tickets, we had to be re-imbursed and then buy NEW tickets. Seemed backwards to me, but oh well. This was just a small preview of the backwardness to come.

Just a tip... get there REALLY early! We only gave ourselves a 10 minute window between arrival and start of show, and we barely had enough time to find parking (at the civic center 4 blocks away) and dash to the theater in time.

The performance starts and there's... singing? Last time I checked this was a BALLET, not a musical, but the program stated that the director wanted to "make it possible to follow the story before us," so I guess he added singing to help with that? I don't know. I felt it detracted from the performance.

Just after the start of Act 2, a power outage stopped the performance. An entire section of Temecula, including Old Town, was without power for an hour. At the time they didn't know how long it was going to last so they took another intermission to wait it out. After twenty minutes they cancelled the show.

Needless to say, we were REALLY disappointed but there was nothing they could do about it, understandably. What I DIDN'T understand was their refund policy... or lack thereof. I know the power outage wasn't their fault, but guess what, it wasn't mine either, so I would have appreciated being compensated for at least half of the ticket price, since we did see half of the show. Instead, they offered to let us come back for one of the other showings (except for Friday's) or come to another "Temecula Presents" show over the next year. ??? We booked THIS show because we were going to be out of town Mon-Wed... that leaves ONE showing, the Thursday showing, for us. Otherwise we can take our chances with another production, and so far there's nothing on the calendar that I want to see.

Nice facility, but I'm really disappointed with their customer service.

**UPDATE** So we were able to get into tonight's show and it went off without a hitch! I upgraded my rating because I enjoyed the show so much, but I stand by my comments above. The second act of the show was MUCH better than the first (no singing!) but it was shorter, which was disappointing. I'd love to see more ballet.

Ah, Fremont Street. The main appeal for Fremont St is that most it is cheap: lower limit tables, cheap booze, etc. The other main attraction is the light show on the ceiling. Husband and I tagged along with a couple of friends late one night. We got there at about 9:45 and a lot of things were closed. I understand it was a weeknight and the off season, but we just wanted to get something to eat!! We finally found a bar while our friends did the zipline through Fremont St. Other than the light show though we were pretty bored. And the tunnel effect makes it SUPER cold down here! I'm OK with staying on the strip in the future.

I only got a chocolate croissant and orange juice here, but both were very yummy! The location of it is a blessing and a curse: it's right at the base of the guest elevators, so it makes it easy to get to in the morning... but that also makes it crowded. Luckily, my husband and I were able to get in line before a group of 30 people descended on the place. I felt bad for the people behind them, they were going to have a very long wait!

Excellent dinner!!

My husband is a chef (if you follow my reviews you probably know that by now!) and a huge fan of Thomas Keller (the chef of Bouchon). Once we got to the Venetian and checked in we saw a bunch of signs advertising Bouchon and immediately husband decided we needed to eat there.

We made reservations for dinner and came with a couple friends. One thing I think most people will appreciate about Bouchon is that it is an accessible fine dining experience. Meaning, their menu isn't completely loaded with French terms (although there is a good amount of that) that the average person wouldn't understand and therefore be intimidated by. One of their dishes is steak and fries... you can't get more down home American than that!

I ordered "Blanquette de Lotte" which is "roasted monkfish with a fricassée of glazed root vegetables & lobster spaetzle." I really enjoyed it, everything was cooked wonderfully.

Husband ordered one of the day's specials, Chicken Rillette, for an appetizer. It looked like a crab cake, but it was made of chicken, sitting on a risotto with a yummy sauce. For his entree he ordered the "Poulet Rôti" as the waiter informed us that Keller's chicken dishes were well known and loved. It was a "roasted chicken with quince, charred radicchio & truffle emulsion." Again, the sauce on this one was amazing and my husband really enjoyed it.

Their dessert menu was holiday-ified, unfortunately for me since I don't care for most things holiday: peppermint, ginger, etc. I'm not sure what the dessert I ordered was called, but it was served with peppermint ice cream so I asked for vanilla instead. It still had peppermint dust on the side though, which I had to carefully avoid as I ate. Husband ordered "Île Flottante" which was really interesting and gave him some ideas for his own cooking.

Wine: we ordered the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and both of us really enjoyed it.

Lastly, service was impeccable, I only wish I could get service like that at every restaurant I go to. I hope we can come back to Bouchon next time we are in Vegas!

Blue Man Group

My husband, a couple friends and I went and saw Blue Man Group on a Tuesday night in Vegas. The place was packed and we were in the first row, the poncho section. I was very afraid I was going to get paint all over my clothes, but we didn't get touched. Same can't be said for another group in the front row... they got food sprayed ALL OVER them during one of the comedy sketches.

I could go into detail about the show but I'll keep it short. Overall I enjoyed the show and don't regret going. I did not enjoy the "comedy" bits, I felt like most of them went on too long and weren't that funny. I DID like the drumming with the paint, but by towards the end of the show I noticed that their motions weren't matching the sound... in other words, it was a soundtrack or the sounds were actually coming from the other drummers in the show and not the blue men. Not a big deal, I guess.

The funniest part of the show for me was the toilet paper. The audience members kept passing it forward so by the end of it, the people in the front row were drowning in TP.

TL;DR: I'm glad I went but probably wouldn't go again.

Papa John's Pizza

Whenever my husband want our pizza delivered, we always choose Papa John's. We order online and they have never gotten our order wrong, and the deliveries are always on time. The pizzas cost more than other chains, but I think they taste way better, too. Not the best pizzas I've ever had but perfectly passable on a night when you've been working all day and you just do. not. want. to make dinner.
