Wonderful host! We enjoyed our stay in Alice's room on the main level. Around the corner from downtown Golden historic area makes for a perfect location (home is from 1879). Breakfast was delicious with breads, juices, tea, eggs, and even a fruit smoothie! Enjoy a bit of history with a basket of artifacts including a bullet casing from Buffalo Bill. Affordable and best place to stay in the area.

We had a 7:30pm reservation but didn't get seated until 8:30pm with no apologies. The entree was good but the dessert tasted like it was thawed from the freezer. Beautiful hotel though :)

Decor is cute (used to be a chapel and the stained glass windows still remain). I only had a salmon bagel, which was average, but disappointed that we had to try two times to order something still available. They were out of sweet potato pancakes and salmon dill omelets.

Dirty Ernies Rib Pit

The story behind this place is better than the food. Ernie was a dirty old man who drank too much and burned to death in his old time coal miner's restaurant. The new owners rebuilt and named it after him. His ghost is supposed to haunt the kitchen here too. Maybe Ernie can help them out, because the ribs are just average, silverware dirty, and while throwing peanut shells on the floor is fun, mildew peanuts are not so fun. We made it to dessert, but the apple cobbler specialty is chunks of cake with apples on top. If the dollar bills stapled all over the walls didn't have black marker messages all over them, they might have been a good way to pay the bill.

I'm giving it 4 stars because of the delicious and unique flavors, but the texture is a little icy compared to thick and creamy ice cream that I normally enjoy best. They also have soft serve, dips, and other shakes and slush. I do wish they had a kids size cone for the scoop ice cream. The small is very large. They will scoop a kids size, but at the same price as the small.

Insider Tip: It's a short distance from the Milford Green, so it's a great stop after dinner or a walk on the green.

Great homemade pasta, the caprese salad has soft and delicious mozzarella, and the tiramisu is one of the best I have had. They have a beautiful outdoor garden perfect for outdoor seating on summer nights.

The only big disappointment, and the reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 4 stars, is because of their reservation policy. They won't allow more than 6 people in a party to sit outside. They explained that they are busy and want to give other people a chance to sit outside. I don't see what the difference is between a party of 8 or two parties of 4. Very big disappointment to be turned down, especially since I have been there numerous times! It's a large outdoor space with plenty of room.

http://kayak.com is awesome. I use it religiously to track airfare and find good travel deals. I tell people about it all the time.

The "buzz" feature got me deals like:

$545 round trip airfare from New York to Athens for the middle of May!
$245 round trip airfare from New York to Madrid
$300 round trip airfare from New York to Rome

What's even better is they have an office in Norwalk, CT, which is close to where I live. Maybe I will get to work for them some day. *hint hint*

I'm giving this three stars for the atmosphere, otherwise it would be two stars. It's a great summer spot with a large outdoor deck overlooking the docks, and live music on the weekends with fire pit tables and heaters for chilly nights. The deck is no reservations and the fire pit is seat yourself (and unless you have a party of 8, you will be sitting with other people). We sat inside, and it wasn't disappointing at all. The decor is a fun nautical theme and feels very bright and airy, with large windows looking out on the water.

The service, however, was disappointing. We sat with menus for about 20 minute before anyone came over, we didn't get water until our meals came, we never got any bread, and it took too long to get water refills and ketchup at the table. Our ice cream order was also messed up. I think they were overwhelmed with the crowds and didn't know how to handle it.

Having said that, the New England clam chowder was delicious an my sea bass was good, but nothing special. I would go back if I knew the service got better, but maybe just for drinks on the deck if I happened to be in the area.

Insider tip: You don't need to get cocktails to sit outside! Order an ice cream cone for dessert from their large selection made at the local creamery, pay your bill, and enjoy it out on the deck.

When I first came here, I would have given it 5 stars. The wings were amazing. Hot mango with blue cheese mmm. For some reason, the last few times I have been, the wings are declining in quality. They are slimy and undercooked.

What's so special? The outdoor seating in the summer. Nice sunsets, even at the mall.

What a fun place! I took salsa lessons here one summer. The instructors are entertaining and educational. The classes are affordable and perfect for couples AND singles! Once a week the students all meet up and test out their skills in New Haven at a Latin dance club. They have recently added Tango as well.
