The Goulet Pen Company

Category: Office Equipment

5.0 star rating

Based on the rave reviews online as well as my personal shopping experience, Goulet Pen appears to be best-of-breed in pen and ink supplies. The items I ordered, which could not be found in the Atlanta area, shipped the next day, and the fragile items arrived safely in a nicely packed box. A family business, the owners post regular video tutorials showing pen fans how to use, care for, and select the best fountain pens and inks. Goulet does all the site photography in house, and the website is truly a joy to look at. The company provides detailed video reviews and tutorials (including Fountain Pen 101 for newbies) as well as samples of how a wide variety of nibs perform with standard ink. Goulet is a great place to shop for functional fountain pens with brands like Pilot/Namiki and Lamy. Plus, Goulet carries the inks that fountain pen fans love, such as a long list of Noodler's Ink, Pilot Iroshizuku, and J. Herbin. If you're in the market for fountain pens, inks, and accessories, check out Goulet Pen.

If every US citizen practiced what Clark preaches (living within your means, saving before buying, etc.), everyone would be HAPPIER, as there would be much less bankruptcy and general misery due to personal debt. And, if the US government lived within its means as Clark preaches, every taxpayer would not owe $135K+ to the federal government (http://www.usdebtclock...). Military veteran, straight-talking guy, trustworthy advisor... I only wish I could listen more often!

On The Border

Update - 2/5/2012
Upping my review by 1 star. We tried On the Border a couple times after our initial disappointing visit, and the food was much better. Service improved too (friendly bartender on the bar side). Perhaps it has a new store manager or something? Seating at the bar side is enjoyable, with TVs & comfy booths. I thought On the Border was owned by the same company as Chili's, but that was in 2009. As of 2010, I guess it's back in independent hands, so perhaps it will make a turn-around!

Without going into the details, let's just say we have been underwhelmed every time we have visited. Perhaps the restaurant is just too big for its britches? Go across the road to Dos Palmas or Agua Linda instead, or drive over to Taqueria La Parrilla for the delicioso tamales (you may have to wait in line).

At the time of this review, this business listing is missing an "r". It's "Parrilla" as you can see in the sign. Nonetheless, the Watkinsville location is much easier to get into than the small Athens location, and a bit more updated, so we visit here on a semi-regular basis. Service is extremely zippy, and the more common dishes come out in time-warp like fashion. What ~ I just ordered that! How is it at my table ALREADY?!? Did they know we were coming? So, yes, we really love this restaurant, and we will visit until our tummies cannot take any more consistently high quality ground beef tacos, chicken soft tacos, pork tamales, and veggie tamales. Mmmm....

Dominick's of Watkinsville

Well, so, it's an Italian restaurant in Watkinsville. Friendly, cute, and young staff (family members?). Interior decor quite welcoming; environment VERY LOUD, so it's good for top secret conversations (as long as you have good hearing and lean towards your dining partner). Free wifi earns points as well. Honestly, the worst thing about the meal is the bread. I don't get the lukewarm, spongy, cakey bread with garlicky parmesan topping. It's not bread, in my book, but what do I know?! I did enjoy their ravioli the other evening with a supposedly mediterranean pesto. I think that means there are red peppers and kalamata olives in it, because I couldn't taste the feta. That's OK though. There were real pine nuts, yummy olives, and the Half serving was enough for leftovers, which I actually wanted to take home with me. My dining companion had the lasagna, which looked good as well. Reasonably priced, if not cheap, and relatively easy to get into, which is a bonus when Taqueria La Parrilla is packed to the gills. :) We'll be back!

Friday night. Night before New Year's Eve. Pretty packed. Got us in within the 10 minute approx. wait window (BONUS STAR!). We were in a hurry to go shopping... Nice gentleman waiter took our complete order up front without a quibble. Bread (rolls plus, mmm, carrot and spice quickbreads) and my companion's soda came out quickly followed by my cappuccino (yum!). My Artichoke Asiago Chicken Spaghettini (is that a real word?) consisted of a super-crunchy, right-sized breaded chicken breast atop a bed of ... uhhh... spaghettini (what is that, fat spaghetti?) which was tossed in a tomato alfredo sorta sauce with spinach, artichokes, and tomato bits in it. I was impressed by the quality of my food and happy they didn't try to give me WAY TOO MUCH FOOD like other restaurants. The nice gentleman waiter provided a to-go cup for my cappuccino and a super-zippy checkout, so all in all, he deserved his 20% tip. All in all, Mimi's kicked butt on the service, and the food outshined the neighboring Macaroni Grill.

We had a lovely lunch on the little outside patio. I had the hamburger w/ candied bacon and roquefort cheese (minus the caramelized onions) accompanied by housemade french fries. One of my dining companions tried the pate au four (baked elbow pasta with serrano ham & gruyere), and I think the other one had a lamb burger. Both seemed satisfied, and my burger and fries were, uhh, "très savoureux." It's French food in Athens, so it might not be terribly French, but it was tasty! (Bonus points for all you Hiltonites! This review also appears on the Hilton HHonors Dining site, as Etienne Brasserie and its sister restaurant La Dolce Vita are members.)

Located in front of the Jackson Street Cemetery (approximately 300 S. Jackson St.), Walter Washington operates the hot dog stand "LaFonda Dawgs" which sells hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie dogs, sausages, sodas, and a nice variety of chips. Mr. Washington does a fine job running the stand, and students, faculty, and staff keep him busy at lunchtime. Buying from Mr. Washington is a fun experience due to his bubbly personality. The stand's hours are something like 10AM to 4:30PM (weather permitting). If you don't have a lot of time or $$ for lunch, try LaFonda Dawgs!! Read more about the stand at: http://www.uga.edu/uga... .

Sr Sol

A second location for Sr. Sol?!? Located across from the new Blind Pig Tavern on Broad, parking is easier than the other location, the wait staff was super attentive, but the food... ah, the food... The awesomely marinated asada (steak) in my soft taco, tasty ground beef in my hard taco, and the spicy pork in the tamal almost made me cry due to extreme yumminess. On a side note, if you hate sour cream, you might need to ask a few times for them **not** to put it on various items, but we're used to that.

Summary: Go to Sr. Sol. Eat yummy food. Repeat.

PREx is indeed fabulous. My Dad has been going since it opened, and I've been there from time to time. I recently visited on vacation, and I wish I lived around the corner. But if I did, I'd have to buy a ton more jewel sleeves! Left the store after about 30 minutes with a warm feeling and 2 CDs that I haven't seen anywhere else, for $1.99 and $2.99 a piece. Woo! Staff was super-nice. It's a bummer that I live 800 miles away....
