Waltonville Cafe

One thing to note: it's the only restaurant in Waltonville (~450 people). So it's going to be packed regardless of quality. Fortunately, their food is good and priced very fairly.

I'll remember: the great value and hominess feeling.

Note: this review is written from the perspective of a mooching explorer, not a home buyer.

Yay for crazy architects on LSD with the money and nerve to embrace their visions!

It's a remarkable collection of gorgeous, eco-friendly homes. I wanted to become a vagrant and camp out in the houses immediately. Who needs furniture when you have polished wooden floors and second-story decks?

I highly recommend anyone with a spare hour (and no fear of nearby prison inmates mulling about) to visit 969. Check out the model home first--it's the first home on your right when you enter the community. It was my favorite layout. Don't forget to check the fridge--you wouldn't want the goodies to spoil, now would you? Get a map from the drawer under the stove and you're off.

I'll remember: the serendipitous jubilation of discovering such beautiful and well-designed homes, the color, and running around like mad trying to visit them all (I was under a strict deadline).

Cathedral of Junk

Nifty doesn't do it justice. Super nifty does.

One of Austin's hidden treasures. Little smelly, but well worth the visit. 30 minutes of exploration and saying, "Wow this guy must be nuts."

It's a multi-storied behemoth of metal, bicycles, and old CDs. Scotch tape and superglue holds it together.

If you liked this, you would probably enjoy the Orange Show in Houston [http://www.orangeshow.org] and City Museum in St. Louis [http://www.citymuseum....].

I'll remember: the impressive structural stability and rampant (ab)use of color.

- Beautiful scenery: check
- Rope swing: check
- Cliff jumping: check
- Waterfalls: check
- Cave you swim into while passing under a waterfall: check

From that, it'd appear like Krause Springs is a great place to visit. It is, although I say that reservedly--of all the places I go to adventure this one didn't strike me as all that exceptional. Worth visiting definitely, but not one I'll go back to often.

Suggestions for visiting: bring river shoes.

I'll remember: the scenery, rope swing, and constantly stubbing my toes/fingers.

Esotico serves incredible gelato in a gorgeous setting. They clearly thought long and hard about how to create the perfect gelato shop. I definitely enjoyed the experience and will check them out again.

I'll remember: the atmosphere, how relatively secluded the location is, and the taste.
