Yay for crazy architects on LSD with the money and nerve to embrace their visions!
It's a remarkable collection of gorgeous, eco-friendly homes. I wanted to become a vagrant and camp out in the houses immediately. Who needs furniture when you have polished wooden floors and second-story decks?
I highly recommend anyone with a spare hour (and no fear of nearby prison inmates mulling about) to visit 969. Check out the model home first--it's the first home on your right when you enter the community. It was my favorite layout. Don't forget to check the fridge--you wouldn't want the goodies to spoil, now would you? Get a map from the drawer under the stove and you're off.
I'll remember: the serendipitous jubilation of discovering such beautiful and well-designed homes, the color, and running around like mad trying to visit them all (I was under a strict deadline).
One of Austin's hidden treasures. Little smelly, but well worth the visit. 30 minutes of exploration and saying, "Wow this guy must be nuts."
It's a multi-storied behemoth of metal, bicycles, and old CDs. Scotch tape and superglue holds it together.
If you liked this, you would probably enjoy the Orange Show in Houston [http://www.orangeshow.org] and City Museum in St. Louis [http://www.citymuseum....].
I'll remember: the impressive structural stability and rampant (ab)use of color.

From that, it'd appear like Krause Springs is a great place to visit. It is, although I say that reservedly--of all the places I go to adventure this one didn't strike me as all that exceptional. Worth visiting definitely, but not one I'll go back to often.
Suggestions for visiting: bring river shoes.
I'll remember: the scenery, rope swing, and constantly stubbing my toes/fingers.
