Om Restaurant & Lounge

I am so disappointed with Om, where I (wrongfully) had my birthday dinner last night.

When I called last week to make reservations for 16 people for dinner, the manager said there would be a DJ and I should invite a larger group over for drinks afterward.  So I did.

Dinner itself was underwhelming.  While we had plenty of popcorn, it took AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES for them to bring a cocktail my boyfriend ordered at the beginning of the meal.  But they brought us plenty of VOSS water we never ordered. Service was outrageously slow, and not particularly warm and welcoming (perhaps because tip was included?)

The clam & noodle dish is a complete disappointment. While the menu claims that it's udon-- the noodles are in fact some sort of italian pasta.  Of 16 people, not one used positive adjectives to describe their meal.

So then I had 50 friends come by for drinks and a supposed DJ.  But the manager who arranged the dinner & party failed to tell anyone on staff that night about my party (or even ensure that there were enough people working). Not only was there not a DJ, it took over an hour for them to figure out how to turn the music up.  And the manager who was on staff was not accommodating or useful in any way.  In fact, instead of apologizing for being clueless, he seemed annoyed at the situation.

I am so disappointed in OM, and will ensure that none of my student groups waste their time or money supporting such an establishment.

I used to love this place, but my last trip to Thor will certainly be the last.  While the views are still beautiful, the entire vibe has gone downhill.  Now it's just a haven for creepos.  Definitely no longer a place worth blowing $15/drink.

It's more a spot for meeting old friends than meeting new ones....

But if you're looking for a low-key place to have a few drinks or start off the night, go see Nurse Bettie.  The bartenders are great and if you know the twitter password, they'll even let you drink for free.

Great place for groups-- fun ambiance, friendly waiters, and tasty food to share.

To ensure a good night, order the cava sangria for the table.

It's like a holiday inn with a fancy entrance and logo.  The rooms are falling apart-- banged up furniture, peeling wall-paper, stained carpet, and fading bathroom tiles.  While minimalist, it just didn't feel clean.

The staff was not particularly friendly or helpful, and room service took 40 minutes (for a salad!).  Nothing about my stay leaves me wanting to return.

A fun twist on the American bistro with menu items like truffle fries, ahi tuna burger, and seared scallops (with sweet potato gnocchi!).  High prices, but generous portions.  Great drink menu and friendly service.  Great for groups, and a Friday night on the town!

This hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The rooms are outdated, musty, tacky, and downright gross. Icky written all over it.

MMMac & Cheese

First off, this place has "WE ARE GREEN" overload syndrome.  Their attempt to sway eco-sumers ends up being tacky and pompous.  It also leaves guests confused.... why the plastic containers, plastic bottles, and plastic bags?

But most importantly, the mac&cheese was disgusting.  The cheese tasted like cheap velveeta and kraft singles melted together. Yesterday.  The seafood tasted frozen and dull.  The noodle to cheese ratio was completely off, and it felt like eating nacho cheese leftover from a ball game.   For $13 (including drink), I expect more.

fun little hipster hut somewhere in the woods of Austin (at least it felt like the woods).  order at the bar and have a seat, enjoy the company, as the wait might be a while.

The watermelon gazpacho is homemade, chunky, and delish.  The hummus is mediocre.  And the pastries are so good, you'll want to grab a few extra to bring home.
