Fantastic sushi!

I was looking for a sushi restaurant in the area, and actually wandered over to to Yuzu on Adelaide Street West first. But I wasn't impressed - the place was half-empty at dinner time (not a good sign!) and the roll I had was just OK. So, I decided to walk the mile or so to Japango to see if it had more my cup of tea.

As you'll read in other reviews, this place is SMALL! No sushi bar at all, and only a few tables. The place was jam-packed - standing room only. But the food was absolutely fantastic. The yellow tail sashimi blew me away - it melted in my mouth, and was really just superb. I had the spicy tuna roll as well, and was very pleased with it.

I also ordered some tako (they were out), hokkigai (same thing), ika, and uni. All of the plates came out as they were ready, and were not served all together. I appreciated this, but is probably due to the fact that the chefs were busy as heck!

Not much more to say about this place, except that it's certainly on my list of places to visit when I'm away from Boston.

It was ok. We stopped in here with a hankering for chinese. The girl behind the counter was pretty surly and uninterested in taking our order. To top it off, my order didn't get placed, so I ended up eating one of the appetizers. The food was just ok - the peking raviolis were pretty good,  but everything else was mediocre. The fried rice was tasteless.

We won't be going back. Not the worst I've ever had, but a fry cry from what I was expecting from a place that advertises that they're "one of the top 100 chinese restaurants" in the country.

A very pleasant surprise!

We were in the area for an event, were hankering for sushi, and had (literally) 15 minutes to spare. The reviews on this looked good, so we decided to try it out.

We were greeted immediately, and sat at the sushi bar. The prices all looked very reasonable, and we ended up ordering two rolls and a single order of hokkigai (sushi) to share. We would have ordered sake, but were concerned about the time we had, so stuck with water.

The chef presented us with a really nice little mango-crab appetizer while we waited for our rolls. It was great! Very nicely arranged, and it tasted really good.

The rolls were served promptly too, and the presentation was very cool - they'd drawn a picture on the plate with some of their sauces. I don't know whether they do this for all their dishes (probably) but it was very nice to see the care they were taking.

The rolls weren't even the "designer" style, but were excellent.

Parking was good (it's a hotel restaurant), and the TV over the bar had captioning on, which I appreciated.

I wish we had more time to spend there - and next time we're in the area, we'll make this part of the plan.

Highly recommended!

Decent food - horrible service.

We went here based on the ratings on Yelp. The food was OK: the peking ravioilis were excellent, but everything else was pretty good.

The service, though, was bad. We were the only ones there and it took awhile to get waited on, the drink order was messed up, and the waitress forgot one of our plates.

Probably a good spot for take-out for delivery, but certainly not for anything else.

We gave this place a shot for dinner with the kids.

We were seated after a short wait, and were served chips and salsa almost immediately. It did take a while to get our drinks, including our waters.

We had heard about the table-side guacamole, and were eager to try it. It was very good, and well worth the price ($8). However, we ran out of chips to scoop it up, and had to wait 5 minutes or so for more - I think that they should ensure that there are sufficient chips in the bowl when they serve the guacamole.

The drinks were good all-around. My wife and I had margaritas and the kids had strawberry smoothies, and they were all very good.

The adult plates were good, but not out of this world. The kids ordered from the kids' menu (we allow them to get whatever they want, even if it's an adult plate) and they weren't thrilled. The rice and beans side dishes were just plain and bland tasting.

So, all-in-all, the guacamole "at the table" is worth the price of admission, but the plates themselves are just OK. We'll probably go back.

I was really expecting more. Our experience may have been marred by the fact that it was very cold inside the restaurant, or jitters from a new staff. But, unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like this place, I can't recommend it right now over other options in the area.

We were seated promptly in the teppenyaki area, but it was so frigid that my kids had to keep their coats on. It eventually warmed up, but only after we complained, and the manager fiddled with the A/C controls.

The sushi was just OK, and was priced a bit high. What kind of surprised me is that, unlike other (most?) sushi restaurants I've visited, the price for sushi is per PIECE, not for 2 pieces. Also, their sushi selection was surprisingly limited: no hokkigai, no murugai (I can forgive them for this, but it's one of my favorites). The tako and unagi pieces were acceptable, but I wasn't blown away.

The sushi and the rolls were ordered at the same time, but came out separately - 2 minutes or so apart. They weren't all that busy, and I know that getting sushi to the customer ASAP is valued, but I would have liked to see it all delivered at the same time.

The real problem, though, was that they didn't give us soy sauce saucers, and the soy sauce container was on the other side of the table (not two or more, placed conveniently). I had to get my own saucers to mix my wasabi. Yes, I know it's not "correct", but that's the way I like it. Anyway, on with the review.

We only ordered a couple of rolls, and they were... just OK. Prices were reasonable here: $6 for a Spicy Tuna Roll, $5 for a California Roll.

I wasn't in the mood for Uni, so didn't even ask if they had any. I did note that there was no quail egg addition option, which I sometimes like. Maybe next time, if there is a next time.

The sake was good. We ordered it hot, and it was served hot. Nothing to complain about here.

The Teppenyaki combinations were fine. I had the scallops, and I have to admit that they were cooked very nicely. My wife's steak was good, but not spectacular. The vegetables were good. All of the Teppenyaki entrees come with some grilled shrimp, and these were pretty good. I thought the kids' plates and drinks were slightly overpriced (ex. $12 for the kids' shrimp plate, when other restaurants charge $8 for the same plate.)

The chef was good, and fun. He had the kids laughing, which my wife and I appreciated. His "tricks" were standard fare: fire at the start, "volcano" too, and flipping food into people's mouths.

We didn't order dessert, but were served some anyway (probably due to my displeasure at the temperature at the beginning). The raspberry crepe pie was very good; my kids shared a chocolate chip cookie concoction, and enjoyed it.

So, I guess in closing, our experience was marred by some easily correctable issues, which will hopefully be corrected once the place has been in business longer. For now, as mentioned, there are other, better options right now.

I sincerely hope that Feng rectifies these issues, as the location really can't be beat for us. We'll likely wait awhile before trying them again, though.

Great little place!

I went here with a few guys from work, and we ordered drinks, appetizers and (eventually) meals.

From the get-go, I was impressed with this restaurant. While you can somewhat tell the place's origins as a mexican restaurant (Acupulcos) from the wall design, the interior is very nice and inviting.

The beer selection was fine, and pretty much what you'd expect in a place like this. The wine list was also adequate - wine by the glass and bottle was available. They had a few Cabernet's, a Shiraz, etc: certainly acceptable for this type of business.

The food was great! Everyone who had a plate was very impressed with it. I had the scallops and they were excellent - 5 stars! The fisherman's platter was overflowing, and tasted really good too. The buffalo wings were nice and spicy, and cooked perfectly.

The wait staff was attentive, and came around often to make sure we were all set. After having my plate of scallops for five minutes or so, I asked the waiter if I could send my (untouched) mashed potatoes back for some fries, and he had a big plate of fries in front of me in about 30 seconds.

My (minor) complaints:

1. The wings appetizer could have been a bit bigger.

2. No darts or anything. It is a small little place, but a corner to play darts would really be good.

3. Captioning wasn't turned on for the TV's in the bar.

4. The men's bathroom layout is kinda bizarre - the sink is in the back corner where a stall might go.

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. Great place - not perfect, but we're going back!

Standard little pizza joint - nothing to write home about at all. But if you like Gyros (like I do!) give them a shot. Very tasty!

Good burgers, good drinks! As someone else wrote, I think Red Robin does the 'burger experience' better, but these guys are also less expensive.

We all liked the burgers and drinks we ordered. My only complaint is with the Chili & Cheese Fries - the "cheese" is velveeta, I think, and not melted cheddar.

The half-sour pickles are a nice little bonus - fantastic for munching on.

The ordering system is interesting: you pay for your order at the register, and then they bring it to your table. No plates, no silverware, and you clean your own table. But then again, all this is reflected in the price of the food too.

If you're in the area, give Wild Willy's a try instead of normal fast food fare - you won't be disappointed.

Insanely good find!

We were visiting from out-of-town and staying on the strip, but decided to check out something a bit outside the "normal" zone. This place was rated highly on Yelp, and so a taxi-ride later ($20), we were there. Where "there" is exactly is hard to say for us, and we had to look around to find the exact location of the place (it's in the middle "island" building on the right). It's located right in the middle of some Korean restaurants, and is definitely not your standard "strip" business - it's not at all notable from the outside.

The inside is another matter. We chose to sit at the bar to watch the itamae at work, but we liked the set up of the tables and the main room. I was immediately intrigued by the aquariums in the back that housed live flounder, prawns, and abalone. I inquired about the abalone (it wasn't on the menu), and was a bit taken aback at the price ($25), but ordered it anyway due to the fact that we were on vacation, and I couldn't recall ever seeing it on a menu before. It was fantastic - very nice, firm, texture and a very oceany- (almost uni-like) taste.

I decided to have some of the prawn, too (also not on the menu), and was very pleased with that, too. They serve the prawn raw, first, and after you've had the tail, they then tempura-fry the head. It was extraordinary!

We had some other dishes, too: some of them ordered by us, and some of them presented to us by the owner (we ordered a few things that weren't in-stock, and I think it was a very nice and appreciated gesture). Everything we had, from start to finish, was just excellent: fresh tako, hamachi, and unagi sushi, and a HUGE "special" maki roll. The sake was good, and reasonably priced too. I was so full by the end of the meal, I couldn't fit any uni, and that's a first for me!

The only (very minor) complaint I have is that they didn't have closed-captioning on the TV's.

I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fantastic meal of sushi in Vegas.. It doesn't have the ambiance of a Tao or Koi, and it's not a teppenyaki place, but that's not what I'm looking for in a sushi restaurant anyway. We spent over $50/person (because we wanted to..the food was GOOD!) but could just as easily have spent $25/person if we wanted to be more wallet-conscious.

We'll definitely be going back the next time we're there!
