Oceana Market

This is such a great grocery store, and very important addition to the Pacifica shopping community.  They have a very lovely produce section, although it seems like some of the staples are a little pricey, for example celery.  Despite that I'd still rather pay a few more cents at Oceana than step foot in the rip-off Safeway down the street.

I appreciate their wide variety of food quality & choices. You'll easily find a premium gourmet product next to a generic option on the shelf.
If you're into gluten-free food - then you'll end up spending hours browsing their amazing GF selections.
The staff is always pleasant and helpful.
OH!  And the deli has a Peet's Coffee & Tea mini-store and nice quaint small seating section.  Bonus!
What a blessing to be able to walk to such a great store from my home!
I hope everyone in the neighborhood supports this place so we'll be able to cherish it for years!

The ice cream was good enough, but I should have never asked for a waffle cup for my sundae.  Granted it was 9pm on a Sunday night when I went here, but the waffle was chewy like it had been sitting out all day.  Hell, maybe even all week for all I know.  But I manned up and ate it like the champ that I am.  The two young girls behind the counter were very nice and polite and seemed to be very efficient with the ice cream scoops.  The girl who helped me was also very generous with the whipped cream so I am forever indebted to her!   Overall, the sundae was good, despite it's... chewiness.

Wendy's

Maybe it's the management, or just really dedicated employees, but this is one of the best Wendy's I've been to in a very long time.  First of all I should mention my last visit there was a Sunday evening so there were no other customers there so the place was very mellow.  I've been there before when it's a bit busier and the courteous and professional staff seems to work well under pressure and move people through pretty quickly.  This last visit I had my regular, a #2 combo, which is a double with cheese and fries.  I had an iced-tea to drink which was very tasty.  The french fries were perfect; recently cooked, crispy and slightly salted.  The cheeseburger was nicely assembled and the vegetables appeared and tasted fresh.
Wow, what a satisfying fast-food experience ... which we all know can be hard to come by these days.
My hat's off to the staff/management to the San Bruno Wendy's!

Cafe Pacifica

I thought I'd write a quick review because things have recently changed at Cafe Pacifica... for the better.
They finally accept credit/debit cards!  This was a very welcome discovery the last time I was there.  My mom loves this place and every time she's in town we head for "The shack", which is her term of endearment for this unique cafe.  But we usually had to plan ahead and get cash before walking there from my apartment just a few feet away.  Now that they accept cards, I'll be more likely to make an impulse trip there for lunch and/or coffee.
Another great thing about this place is the patio which is pet friendly, and a great way to soak in the sun when it decides to visit us in Pacifica

I have to admit, this place kind of creeps me out... but in a good way.
The first time I ever went here was a late night after work.
I went through the drive-thru, and could barely understand the person talking to me.  I guess that adds to the authenticity of this foreign-based fast food joint?   I decided to go for the fried chicken and rice..
Let's just say I was instantly hooked!   I love the light crispy coating on the chicken... and having rice with gravy as a side was such an uplifting and interesting departure for this Midwestern white boy!  I'm pretty sure I went back the next night... and then the night after that... and so on.  Then I realized I had gained like 5 pounds... so I had to break away from this new greasily scrumptious addiction.
I went back recently and loved it just as much as the first time.  I admit I'm a creature of habit and went for the fried chicken again.  I always want to try their other interesting dishes... like spaghetti and hotdogs?!?!?   Anyway, I think I'll get brave enough some day.  Until then, I'll just savor my fond memories of the tasty poultry treat!

Tommy's Joynt

As an employee of KRON 4, Tommy's is the closest place for me to eat when I don't bring my own food from home.
So that fact makes Tommy's awesome.  I can stumble out the work door and be in the food line in less than a minute!
The food is very tasty too.  I usually get the corned beef and cabbage.  The guys behind the counter always pile on the meat... and more importantly ... the cabbage!  Mmmm... gassy!   :)
When I'm in the mood for a dessert, they usually have something to satisfy the sweet tooth cravings as well.
Pleasant staff, unique atmosphere and interesting clientèle.
Oh yeah... and there's booze?!?!?  Score!
Not only do we eat dinner there, we also occasionally head there for an after work cocktail.
Big screen TVs usually have a sports game on, or if it's a big political night, they have a news channel on.
One thing to remember, they don't accept credit.  Cash only folks!
Conveniently they have an ATM inside if you're in a pinch for that green papery stuff.
Chow down my friends!

I just like really this place. OK?
Yes, it's not reknowned for its ambiance or  freshness, but come on... it's delicious!   Its value far outweighs the need for trendy design and a line of hipsters out the door.
2 for 1 rolls, hearty portions, not to mention a complimentary California Roll if you spend more than $10 ... or something like that.
I love the wait staff too.  They always toss a funny quip at me after I've destroyed the world shrimp population with a 20 roll feast.  My favorite remark is "Had enough?" as she hands me the bill.
LOL!
I love it!
I'm sure the real meaning in that is, "Damn, American piggy, you eat a lot!!"  But hey I don't care... I'd rather pig out there than McDonalds!  Plus, I'm pretty sure there's a little bit of love hidden in their offhanded comments.  ;-)

Warakubune Sushi

Neighborhood: Castro

Warakubune is Japanese for hole-in-the-wall.  Not really, but this restaurant is pretty small!   But that doesn't matter because my large sushi appetite was sufficiently satisfied here.  Fresh, beautiful, and plentiful.  Every time I go here, and it's been many times now, there is always a wide variety of sushi choices going around on those adorable little boats.
The prices are pretty reasonable too... especially for a guy whose plate stack nearly touches the ceiling... kidding.  I'd suggest getting their unfiltered sake.  It's refreshing and most importantly alcoholy... is that a word?
Sometimes the wait for a spot can be trying... but be patient and keep thinking about the delicious seafoody treats about to enter your piehole.
Oh yeah... here's a little secret.
Anytime you eat at a sushi boat restaurant.  Be sure to stand up while they're counting your plates and yell... "Sushi boat... toot toot!"
I always get a discount... ;-)

Here are the reasons why I like this place:
-It's close to my home.
-They have many movies to chose from.
-They pump air into the theaters to keep me alive during my movie watching experiences.

Here are the reasons why I hate this place:
-Always a long line to get inside.  Why have 10 windows if you only have 2 open at a time?  Stupid!
-Unreasonably pricey.  I want to see a movie, not buy a house!
-Annoying customers.  Too many stupid kids and people who don't understand the concept of sharing public space.
-Did I mention stupid kids?  But really, kids are so sweet...

KFC / Long John Silver's

The toughest  thing about going into this place isn't the freaky people that hang out there... or the perpetually greasy floors and tables.  No... the toughest thing about going into this place is deciding whether I want fried chicken ... or fried seafood.  What's perplexing is, KFC has fried chicken.  But so does LJS.  They have those sort of chickeny tasting strips, that have the same breading as the seafood.  So, does that chicken and the KFC chicken ever get to hang out and chill together before getting served up?  Would it be possible for me to get a side of KFC Mashed Potatoes on top of my Shrimp and Clam combo?  Nope.  I guess that's not the idea behind these combo restaurants.  But I digress.  I enjoy this place in a very guilty way.  I'm eating instant heart attack food, yet I'm shoveling it into my mouth like I just got rescued from spending a month in the Sahara.  Oh well, I guess that's the joy of fast food?  I'm just wondering if the Colonel ever thought he'd have to share space with a pirate...
