Best Gas & Car Wash

Categories: Gas & Service Stations, Car Wash

This business should be renamed - Worst Gas & Car Wash. This gas is not cheap and the car wash is horrible. They charge $6.50 for a basic wash that is completely automatic. If you don't know where to stop, you can get stuck. Also the basic doesn't include any drying. I've never heard of that before. Evidently it's in the fine print. You also only get a $1 discount if you buy a min of 8 gallons of gas. Go to the car wash across from the El Cerrito Plaza on San Pablo. They only charge $6 for a basic wash and they always have an attendant. They are very nice as well and they don't sell gas.

This was my first time hiking through the Berkeley Hills and adding yoga into the mix was fantastic. Christiane, the instructor was great! She kept a vigorous pace throughout and incorporated 4 stages of yoga in stops that were visually inspiring. I experienced a great workout and it was super fun and invigorating. I can't wait to go again!

Marty's Motors

I met Marty at a Green Drinks event in Berkeley. We had a nice conversation and he gave me his card with a "$25 Off" promotion on the back. His shop is also featured on Bay Area Green Tours because of their attention to environmental concerns that accompany auto shops. Yes Marty is the King of Auto Marketing, but that's his thing. You do get added to his email newsletter automatically after service, which you can opt out of. However, he always offers coupons and discounts.

The service was timely and as far as I can tell, done with expertise. My car is six-years old and had never been worked on, except for brake pads, tires and a battery replacement. I brought my car in for brakes and they were very honest and told me that my pads still had life in them. They did however, find a serpentine belt that was ready to snap. This would have been a nightmare. I also needed to get new tires which they recommended doing somewhere else as they don't sell tires. We discussed how much life I had on my brakes and how much millage before I would need work.

it all seemed fair to me. I was treated with respect and kindness.

Marty's is not cheap but he does offer discount coupons and specials.

Marty also has a rescue dog that he treats very well.

Richmond Tire

Okay so here's the skinny. Richmond Tires (actually in San Pablo) is not glamorous, easily located or well-known. You're not going to get to sit in an enclosed room with access to bad coffee, powered artificial milk and Styrofoam cups with red plastic straws. What you will get is a no-nonsense drive up, sit in your car while your tires are exchanged service with unbeatable prices. It will take no more than 15 minutes to do the deed. The tires are Hercules brand and when I researched them I couldn't find any negative reviews.

At least $100 cheaper than anywhere else for comparable tires.

For Cardiff locals and more, Zenbu is a touch of trendy downtown in our little sleepy seaside town. Really great sushi dishes and exotic rolls. It's not cheap but you do get what you pay for. This small intimate setting fills up quickly on any given night. Come early or arrive late and hang out at the bar where other cool and hip locals spend their evenings. Yummy, yummy, yummy sushi....did I mention that?

HealthWalk is an integrative health and wellness center that offers customized, non-invasive support and therapies that allow you to help yourself towards a path to total wellness. The center incorporates leading edge technologies, services, supplements and products backed by over 20 years of research that lead to amazing results. The path to wellness is based on detecting and removing harmful bacteria, parasites, fungus, heavy metals and microplasms that block the body from being the super machine that it is. This place is really helping me become balanced but they have also helped austistic children, stroke patients, ADHD children and adults, and injured people through their Nuero Stimulation Sound Therapies. Dr. Dennis Maness rocks by the way. This place is truly the way to go for the future of healthcare.

On a Saturday night this place was packed with 20 somethings in groups of girls and boys. Everyone seemed to be having a grand old time. The vibe was LAish and the service way cool like the East Village in NYC. You can actually eat after 9pm here. I believe they serve dinner until 11pm and then it goes to the bar food menu which isn't that bad except that the prices go up for the Sweet Potato Fries. Not sure why but I guess at this point you would have had a few fancy cocktails in your tummy making the menu rather funny. Generally a happy place with Tiki-esq decor. The doorman was very nice and treated my posse to a drink each. We liked that!

Marrakesh

Marrakesh definitely has a cool vibe but the food is not as great as it should be. I grew up on great Moroccan food while living in NYC and the food here was average. The experience is unique but the Moroccan inspired decor appeared worn and shabby. I was hoping to sit on cushions on the floor but instead it featured loungy seating around low to the ground round tables. I just think this place would shine if they upgraded their menu to feature more exotic dishes done in the true Moroccan vain. The portions are also way too big. After all the appetizers I couldn't even get to my dinner.

I did have a fabulous glass of champagne topped with a pink liquor that I can't spell. The glass of mint tea at the end was a nice touch.

The people are nice, but the service was just okay as well. The belly dancer was beautiful but she was tall and skinny without a belly. Not the best I've seen.

Tacos El Gordo

This by far is the best tasting greasy spoon taco joint that I have ever been to. No frills, ugly decor, uncomfortable seating but fabulously delicioso!!!! The menu is limited and they only serve meat from cows and one dish from a pig called Tacos de Adobada which is so yummy I went back for seconds. The Tacos de Asada were just as tasty and the cheese in the quesadillas is excellent. We couldn't figure out what it was but something similar to mozzarella.

It is so worth the trip to Chula Vista. Each taco costs $1.75. They don't serve burritos or fish so don't go if you are a vegetarian. I only wish I had brought back a dozen to take with....
