Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse

I love ribs.  Rarely have I come across a slab I didn't get along with.  Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy Montgomery Inn's food.  The ribs here really are some of the best I've had, not just in Cincinnati, but anywhere.  I can't offer too much insight on the other food on the menu though because I order the ribs about 95% when I go here.

The decor has a late 90's kitsch that isn't trying too hard to be cool, like many restaurants and bars in the area.  Montgomery Inn shows it's heritage of sports and entertainment stars with memorabilia on the walls with pride.  It doesn't have to create fake atmosphere with reproduction vintage signs and art because between the food and the spectacular view of the river, who really cares that the tables and chairs look a little dated?

The service...
I usually eat upstairs in the bar area when I go here. I find it's a bit more relaxed than the main dining room.  Just last week I went with a friend and we ate at the bar.  The service was a bit sluggish at first, but we were there fairly late and it looked like the servers were focusing on their clean up duties for the end of the night.  As someone who has worked in food service before, I definitely don't hold that against someone, as long as it doesn't impact my dining experience.  We eventually we got into some small talk with the bartender and made for a very enjoyable evening.

When the food showed up, my friend's steak was markedly overcooked.  He told the bartender who apologized very genuinely and had another sent to the kitchen immediately.  I expected him to comp part of the meal or the drinks, as is customary in the situation.  To my surprise, and the delight of my friend, they comped the whole steak.  His bill was only for the salad and a soda.  That's well over and above what was necessary.

Between taking care to make sure the customers are happy and the delicious ribs, this places definitely gets 4 stars from me.

This is one of the great venues in the Cincinnati area.  I've seen a good number of concerts here over the years and rarely have I been disappointed.  The most recent show I have attended was the Ryan Adams show.

My only complaint about the venue is that upstairs in the balcony the doors to the stairwells  that are used to go to the restrooms and bar don't automatically shut all the way and the light in the hallway shines brightly into the dark theatre until someone near the door pulls it shut.  This was really distracting after a while.

That being said, the sound is always really good and the venue itself is absolutely beautiful.

I've spent a good amount of time in hotels recently.  In this price range the Courtyard is a fantastic deal.

The room was clean and well appointed with a nice desk, flat panel tv, free wi-fi... pretty much all you could expect from a mid-proiced hotel.

Where this hotel shined was it's staff.  The front desk staff was as friendly as could be and always engaged us with quick hello or asking how we were doing.  I really felt welcome and appreciated as a guest here.

The Rusty Bucket is just your average chain restaurant.  It's got decent atmosphere and tvs everywhere (including the bathroom) but for some reason it all feels manufactured.  The food is decent but I just can't help thinking of all the other unique and local restaurants in Columbus that one could eat.

Not bad, but not great.

I had been here a few years ago and I was severely disappointed.  At the time I was not using yelp so there is no review to update, but consider this an updated review that was previously 2 stars.

A couple of friends of mine convinced me to give it another try and I was completely blown away with how much better it was.  I got the garlic pepper chicken at an 8/10 heat level.  I'm by no means an expert on thai food, but what I do know is that I've been craving Foreign Exchange since then and can't wait to go back.

Strip mall Thai food FTW!

El Coyote is a staple over in Anderson Twp.  The fresh salsa and the hot chips alone are delicious enough for the trip.

As an east-sider for nearly all of my life I've been going to El Coyote since I was a kid and my parents took my brother and I.  My favorite dish is the filet, but pretty much anything on the menu is fantastic.

Oh, and if you ask nicely you can buy some homemade salsa to go!

I've been to the LC in many different capacities... a concert-goer, a photographer and working A/V for an event.  I can attest to this place as a top notch facility in every way.

The staff has always been fantastic and the sound is great whether the show is indoors or out.  However outdoor concerts is where this place really shines.  It's the perfect size and has a tiered viewing area that ensures you'll have a great view no matter how far away you are.

Arthur's

Arthur's is one of my favorite places in cincinnati.  While there certainly are better burgers in Cincy, Arthur's burger is well above average.  What really makes this place special to me is the back patio.  It's the most romantic patio in the city in my opinion... guys, take a girl here on a date and she'll be immediately impressed.  Everything from the brick to the greenery to the trellises just creates an atmosphere that can't be rivaled.

If you want the best burger in the city you should probably look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a fun place to grab a drink and some above average grub without going to Applebee's or some other chain, Arthur's fits the bill perfectly.

I've only been here once but it was a blast.  Pretty good beer selection, amazing patio and great food.  I saw Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears on the night I was there and while the back room was packed very tight, it was still a great place to see a show.  I'll definitely be hitting up Mayday again.

Oh, and the hot dogs are really good too.

Update - 8/27/2011 2 Check-ins Here
Went back to Nada last night and had a way better experience.  Our server was fun and put up with our constant jokes with a smile and the bus boy even cleared our table while wearing a luchador mask.  As before, the food was top notch.  The only thing keeping this place from a 5 star review is the price.

I'm glad i went back and gave the service another chance!

    This has a lot of the qualities of a 4 or 5 star restaurant... great atmosphere, outdoor seating and delicious food.

    Sadly though, even though I left with a stomach full of amazing food I felt disappointed.  Our service was very poor and the food was, as mentioned by most, a bit overpriced.  We only saw our server twice the whole time.  Once to take our order and once to leave our checks.  He forgot to bring our chips and salsa. After 15 minutes of waiting to even see our server we finally flagged down another one and it was at our table nearly immediately.  My water sat empty most of the time we were there as well.  It was busy, but not that busy.  The other servers seemed to be doing a great job waiting on their tables, so that's no excuse for the lack of attentiveness.

    Maybe I'm crazy, but if I'm paying 19 bucks for some pork, rice and tortilla shells I expect better service.

    As for the food... We started off with the chips and salsa (albeit a bit late).  When it comes to salsa, most mexican restaurants have a watery mess that tastes like crushed up tomatoes mostly, with a hint of cilantro and peppers... but at Nada, their salsa is almost like a puree.  It's got a decent amount of heat and kind of a smokey taste to it.  I could see myself having a few beers and chips and salsa and being completely satiated.  For my meal I got the Pork Green Chile with a fried egg on top.  It was absolutely fantastic and a decent size portion, though I would have liked a few more tortillas.  The rice that came with it was amazing too.

    Service = 1 star
    Food = 5 stars
    Overall = 3 stars

    I'll definitely try again and hope for a better experience because the food is just that good, but I'm not likely to return again if it turns out that poor service is the norm and not the exception.
