Dave's Diner & Brews

Yay Sam!  A saving grace was the darling waitress named Sam who helped a slightly unruly 6 person party as it grew to a 12 people table.   Food was slightly better than diner par, and a good value to boot.  If you're at Sea-Tac, consider this option rather than the fast food fare - you'll be thankful, if you overlook the chintzy decor.  It's like TGIFriday's, Applebees and Cracker Barrel had a threesome and the results was an automobile & 50's obsessed diner.

DAVE RAVE (pro):  Great service, good food, pretty good value
DINER WHINER (con):  Always busy it seems, and the decor... *shudders*

Oh, Denny's.  Your ass-widening fare are always a comfort when traveling, but this location directly across from my hotel was super interesting:  Booze in a Denny's, a server who refers to water as gourmet melted ice and a clientele which was perfect for people-watching.

Moon Over My Hammy (pro):  It's Denny's, the bar is set pretty low here.
Grand Slamwich (con):  Tough location to get in and out of via car.

A decent drink, poured by a cranky bartender, and understandably mediocre, greasy bar food... add up to a fairly decent experience that's great if one isn't looking for anything other than booze and a place to interact with friends without interruption.  Crowd is slightly older, which lends itself often to a slightly friendlier, more casual feeling.

FOXY (pro):  decent pour at a good price
HOUNDED (con):  Staff varies greatly in competence and friendliness.

Double update:

1)  The most expensive Bloody Mary I've ever had... but also, if not the best, one of the top two best Bloody Marys.  As a friend said, "at twelve dollars it should give you a handjob *while* you're drinking it"... but dam it was good... and with garnish made with cheese cubes, chorizo slices, pickled green peppers, pearl onions, shrimp AND CELERY?!? Yes, please.

2)  Update on the inside:  it's like Mary Poppins purse... it's deceivingly large inside, and quite comfy... but after two of the aforementioned Bloody Marys, I kept wondering why the handsome guy was trying to walk into me... but it turns out there are mirrors everywhere inside.  Whoa.

Approved. Highly recommended.

Great lil bistro on a quiet street, with delicious food served by prompt, friendly waitstaff?  IN NORTHWEST?  SHHHHH... don't tell anyone!

I had the Very Vegan Hash (with eggs substituted for tofu), and the potatoes, roasted red peppers, shiitake mushrooms and toasted almonds were cooked to perfection served in an very appealing presentation.  My co-diner had a very appetizing spinach omelet seeming to have been cooked at exactly the right temperature (thank you, omelets shouldn't be overcooked brown on the outside!).  Two delicious brunches with coffee and soda for ~$15 apiece AND quick and easy?  YES PLEASE.

Sitting outside was a delight, and the servers all were very watchful that we never were in need of anything.  I was so delighted, I didn't get a chance to even peek inside.

NELL, LI TAY IN TA WAY (pro):  Everything I saw!
CHICKAPAY (con):  Not a con, but a poorly backed observation, as I did not enter the building:  might be too small for more than 3-4, but most of us hate you brunching-in-herds assholes anyway.  Stay away from my lil secret.

I live directly behind this establishment, and it's hard not to grant them a star for that, but I'm trying to be fair, damn it.  The staff is super friendly, even if always super busy.  The food is on the good side of average, I haven't had anything exceptionally remarkable, but I've never been disappointed either. The atmosphere is nice with a clean feeling, a bit cramped on the weekends, but well laid-out.

INDUSTRY (pro):  Good food, good service
OUT-DUSTY (con):  A bit pricey, always busy and a teensy bit small

Pretty darn good Mexican food that is obviously gringo-versions of Mexican cuisine, but well-executed.  A nice stiff drink can be had, and when your serving staff isn't preoccupied, you can get both quickly and pretty inexpensively.  I don't expect mi abuelita to walk out of the kitchen or anything, and so, with expectations firmly lowered, I can get a yummy, filling meal here.  Note:  This is a pleasant contrast to anything that the sister restaurant next door serves... owned by the same management, from what I understand, but miles different in quality.

I haven't had their margaritas, so I can't comment.  There are a few comments regarding the salsa here, and I agree it is... interesting.  More like diced tomato and onion were thrown in a rough-chop blender with cilantro and a hot pepper or two.

ORO (pro):  Inexpensive, yummy & filling; good cocktails
PAYASADA (con):  Staff is at time inattentive, salsa is... unique.

Nothing outstanding, by far.  Decent sushi, terrible service, and a pretty long wait for food even when not that busy (I hate being impatient, but it isn't as if you're cooking my sushi...)  I prefer Sushiville by far.  Not awful, but hey.... cheap and conveniently located to most.

Ii desu yo (pro):  Inexpensive, and lots of options
Dame desu (con):  Service is lacking and nothing exceptional about the food.

Clean place with nice interior, and what appears to be a great happy hour - but 3-6p is an awfully early happy hour... otherwise the well drinks and appetizers are on the pricey side, and the music is pretty terrible.

GRAND (pro):  Clean, intimate for a bowling alley
BLAND (con):  Pricey drinks & food, not terribly friendly staff

My neighborhood McMenamin's is a reliable and comforting place, providing good food and decent service wrapped in a standard McMenamin's package.  Nothing outstanding, however the comfort of know what to expect is wonderful on its own... and a great happy hour!

MCMEN! (pro):  Good food, service and space
MINS (con):  Nothing fancy, and service can be spotty when they're busy

Meh.  Poorly prepared food, almost terrible presentation.  Nothing at all like the location in Jantzen Beach which I enjoyed considerably.
