I came here because I bought a cut + style from Lifebooker. My long hair has been feeling weighed down and tangled a lot lately, and i really needed a cut. I'm pretty sure that the guy that attended to me was Edan.

The first thing I said about my hair was that I needed a haircut because my hair felt too damaged. I got my haircut, it was nothing to write home about, because my hair was so long it was really hard to f**k up.

For some reason, I let myself get talked into getting partial highlights. Well, I know why, it's because i really wanted a change and i WANTED to trust the stylist, so I let it happen. STUPID ME. I basically paid like $90 more to sit around for another 2 hours. YOU CAN'T EVEN TELL THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY HAIR. I understand that he made them very very subtle, but it looks like NOTHING CHANGED. He totally tried to pass it off like he did something super special. we both knew that it looked exactly the same as it did before.

But that isn't what made me mad.... In fact, if all I got was a super subtle color change along with a decent haircut, I'd probably rate it between 3 and 4 stars.

What made me mad was... MY HAIR SMELLS BURNT! It's been over 2 weeks since the hair appointment and I never style my hair with heat or put chemical relaxers in my hair or anything. I've washed/conditioned my hair so many times since then. the ends of my hair still SMELLS LIKE BURNT HAIR for some reason! I've never had this problem with my hair before and this infuriates me, esp since i told him at the beginning that the reason i needed to cut my hair was because of how damaged it felt at the ends. Now it is 10x worse AND shorter. and the grossness of the ends makes my hair poof together. it's hard to explain.

burger was soooo cheesy, and not in good way. i mean, i ate it, cuz i was starving, but the blue cheese was overwhelming. it's alright. nothing special.

i came for the dinela thing for lunch. so i got the salad for my first course. it was just a pretty simple salad. you get a lot of it for a starter, but it was super vinegar-y. my friend got a salad for his entire meal (he's on a diet) and his said that his salad (i think it was a mediterranean chicken salad or something) was too vinegar-y too. it's pretty hard to eff up a salad.

chocolate tort for dessert. but i've never been a dessert person. you know what tort i like? the daim tort at ikea!

anyway, the best part of my meal was washing the burger down with my beer.

it was an ok meal. wouldn't come back unless there's a great deal or something. i was super craving a burger that day.

"i'm a fan" because of the $20 bottle of red. which means i can come for an easy lunch and get nice and semi-sloshed.

burger... it was good, but the bread made it weird. it's good and solid, but too thin for a burger of that thickness, i think. but $12 for a burger + fries is pretty good. and it's good meat!

and the place... when we went for lunch, everyone was on some sort of casual business lunch. a lot of scripts were being read and discussed. it's obviously a pretty happening spot. we were the only one ordering a whole bottle of wine. it was pretty good.

i'd try the other things. it look yum.

there are a lot of better places to get ramen around here that give you more bang for your buck.

i tried the tan tan men. it's ramen in egg drop soup with spicy ground pork. it was super thick and heavy! and for some reason, it was lacking flavor. it just felt like a really heavy sop of noodles. since it was so heavy, i couldn't finish it, so i brought some back for leftovers.

is it weird that it was a lot better after i left the restaurant? the soup was no longer ridiculously thick and i could actually enjoy my noodles better. it's gahdamn suspicious when your ramen is better as leftovers.

artie had the chasu pork one. $9? i feel that this place is overpriced for what you get. both of us felt that it was whatevers. the noodles are nothing special. but definitely, there are better places around here for ramen.

i like santouka better. he likes chabuya (around here. for LA area, he likes orochan)

Super Pho & Teriyaki

i just need some good non-expensive pho on the westside. i enjoy this place for several reasons.

price - 5.95 for a decent sized bowl. i don't know what a large is, but i'm happy with the 'small' size.

broth - the beef broth is sooo yummy. usually i have to squeeze a bunch of hoisin and sriracha into my broth, but this one, i happily slurped it up without adding anything but a squeeze of lime juice.

meatballs - ok, i'm weird, but whenever i get pho, i always get meatball pho with no other meat. and these meatballs are like the BEST meatballs in meatball pho i've had anywhere in la. they're effing tasteeeeee.

self-serve veggies + water - 'nuff said. i like to eat my bean sprouts raw while waiting for my noodles. and i like lotsa onion in my pho. this way, you can customize your experience. and water as much as you want whenever you want.

now, the BAD:

the noodles! well, it's not actually bad. but something about the texture, like it's too hard or something. pho should be softer and more elastic, imo. it's not quite right. and it really keeps me from fully enjoying my bowl of, otherwise wonderful, meatball pho. and since pho is kinda half about the noodles (the other half broth and toppings), this drops it down a star.

i've never had the other stuff. but the two times i've been here, i've had the meatball pho. i'm just not into teriyaki that much. AWESOME meatballs and broth!

Kalbi Burger

i came here on a saturday morning because i was hungover. i wanted to try the namesake kalbi burger. artie got the seoul burger. and we shared fries and a root beer.

i love how they have refillable fountain sodas and crispy normal fries.

the burgers:

kalbi burger - i did not like my burger that much. i mean, it was tasty, but the kalbi meat made it too sweet for me for a burger. i came in expecting a burger + flavors, not something that no longer tasted like a burger. it was more of a sweet meat sandwich. but, i can imagine how it would appeal to a lot of people. just wasn't my type.

seoul buger - artie liked his burger lots. and I liked his burger lots, i wish i ordered this instead of the kalbi burger. it was cooked right, juicy, and had good basic burger flavors + the other goodies that came on it. i highly recommend this!

i will come back for the saigon burger, and retry the seoul burger. i should have known, cuz the other patrons that i heard the order of all ordered the seoul burger.

and the free refills on rootbeer. rootbeer is really yummy when you're hungover.

i woulda given it 3.5 stars on my food alone. but then i'm dropping 1 star for the rottenegg-iness of the ice tea.

i got the mushroom and pepperoni pizza lunch combo. the pizza crust was too hard and it was SOOOO GREASY! the cheese just slid off the pizza a lot of the times. eesh. jihan's margharita pizza was a lot better. i just couldn't believe how greasy my pizza was for a place that i'd think would have better pizza.

and his ice tea had this weird smell/flavor to it.

i mean, it's ok for the price. but i want it to be awesome for the price. i wanna go back to ny&c for the 2 slices + beer combo.

i'm so glad i finally came in here.

I got here at 6:20pm after work so i made it in time for the prime rib special. just prime rib + cheese toast + salad for 16.95. yum! i gobbled up the salad (with the green goddess dressing, which is basically a lighter, more herb-y ranch) and the cheese toast.

i had 1.5 perfectly poured (and strong) jack and diets before my prime rib came out. i wondered why it took so long, but when i saw how perfectly uniformly pink and delicious the meat was, i understood that such arts took time.

i have to come back more often to allow myself to vote this place up. cuz the jack and diets were only $7 each and the food was yummy and the atmosphere was comfortable but not pretentious. i had my meal in delicious peace.

I've ordered takeout here twice. I am in love with their fried corn tamale! It's one of the best things I've ever tasted when it's fresh and served with sour cream and beans. YUM!

And the first time i got pupusas, I didn't know I was supposed to eat it with that pickled slaw stuff. The second time, I finally ate it with that, and WOW what a difference.

The food itself is like 3.5, but with the price and the delicious FRIED CORN TAMALE with SOUR CREAM and BEANS, i have to round it up to a 5.

I went here last night for a speeddating event. Around the 5th date or so, I find myself getting kind of hungry. When I get hungry, I get cranky. So I decided to order some food in the middle of speeddating so that I don't pass the crankiness onto the guys I have to talk to. So in essesnce, I had to order food for the other speeddaters' sake.

I opted for the Singaporean rice noodles. Wow, the first half of the dish was amazing. The first bite was hot in both temperature and spiciness. It is a dry curry noodle and the curry provided a really nice kick to the dish (which was a good portion with lotsa meat). Seriously, the first 45 minutes of me eating this, it was delicious and AMAZING! (It took me 45 minutes because I was in the middle of speeddating. I was REALLY hungry.)

I guess after 45 minutes it wasn't as delicious because it was no longer hot/warm. But still pretty damn good that I just sat at the bar and finished the food after the speeddating and didn't socialize.

Also, they had Nakhon beer which is an awesome beer.
