Red Twig Bakery and Cafe

Had a very annoying experience at Red Twig.  While standing in line waiting to order, we were being moved and crowded constantly by patrons and employees trying to get by us.  The food was overpriced, small portions and just bad.  One plus, the bread they use for every sandwich on the menu was very good  but overused.  Absolutely, the very worst reuben sandwich we have every experienced.  There was two slices of pastrami on the whole sandwich, and the pathetic salad was old nasty and frozen.  Very dissappointing, two thumbs down! I second everything AJ R. wrote as well!

I just can't seem to order anything other than the 49er sandwich.  It's awesome!  Anyway, if you go there at lunch be prepared to wait a very, very long time to get your order in.  Try to get there at off times and your experience will be much better.

It can be a bit of a wait to get your order in but the sandwiches are fantastic.  I always have a hard time deciding between the Raider and the Niner.  A small cup of shrimp salad and I've got a great lunch.

Gallagher's Where U Brew

Full disclosure:  I am a Mug Club member (thanks Ed) and friend of Dennis.

Note:  Wine, rootbeer, and sparkling cider can also be produced at Gallagher's.

I brewed my first batch of beer (White Knuckle) with a good friend in August 2008 and had a great time.  We bottled 2 weeks later and had a brew that was better than anything you could find at BevMo (even if there were a BevMo in Washington).  Gallagher's is set up well to help you assemble, weigh, and prepare your ingredients.  The brewmasters are there to help at any stage.  A large number of regulars show up at Gallagher's to enjoy the beer on tap.  Food is not served here so plan accordingly.  State law does not allow minors to enter but on events such as Halloween someone will sit just outside the front door and had out candy to the kids.

Whether you want to brew or hang out and drink some real microbrew goodness Gallagher's is a great place.

The pizza is a bit more gourmet than most places so 4 stars.  The beer is quite good as well.

Free shrimp appetizer (my first time there) was cool.  Meal was good enough.  Some good sourdough bread would be an improvement.  Our waiter was great, but it was his last day.  The Apple Crumble dessert was one of the better apple desserts I've had in a while.
