Not much to say about Glo's: It's a damn good diner. Delicious diner coffee and excellent egg dishes of all kinds.

I had dinner at Poppy last night and was really impressed. You definitely need a sense of adventure as there are some very unusual dishes that will come to you. The result was a number of unique items that I had never experienced before and really enjoyed. This fits especially well into Poppy's Thali model, since you end up with just a taste of each item.

Particularly noteworthy items included the Salmon in Red Wine, Basil-Lime Soda and Chocolate Pudding with (AMAZING) Caramelized Bananas.

Molly Moon's Ice Cream

Molly Moon's is a fantastic ice cream shop. Their waffle cones are second to none and their basic flavors are delightful.

And yet somehow, when standing a few blocks away at the corner of 14th and Pine, I can't help but feel myself drawn not Westward to Molly Moon's but instead Southward to Old School Frozen Custard. True, Old School's flavor of the day may not always be a hit with me. But I find that it offers a level of variety that Molly Moon's lacks: I can't remember the last time I walked into Molly Moon's and saw a new flavor that interested me. Add to that the long line that is inevitably waiting for me at Molly Moon's, and I think my choice is made.

In summary:
+Great Waffle Cones
+Strong flavors
+Location across from Cal Anderson Park (an ideal Ice Cream eating venue) and Rancho Bravo
-Variety/rotation of flavors
-Lacking the ridiculously creamy texture of Old School's treats

If only there was a socially acceptable way to bring a cone from Molly Moon's to Old School . . .

Update - 5/9/2011 1 Check-in Here
My friends have been making fun of me for having up a 2-star review of a place that I now go every week. So I think it's time that I provided an update.

I'm upgrading the Montlake Ale House to 4-stars for a few reasons. One is because of its excellent trivia night on Wednesdays at 8:30. Another is the staff and the really really nice community atmosphere. Is the food the best in the world? Certainly no. But it's a fun place to come hang out and that's probably what you're looking for in a bar.

This place is nothing special, though it did seem particularly kid friendly (if that matters to you) . . .they have this sort of "kid pit."

They  totally forgot to bring me the food I ordered which made me very grumpy.

Octo Sushi

I was excited to learn of a new sushi place opening in my neighborhood and headed over for lunch today.  This place is very new (less than 1 month old), but there are some negative reviews already posted here. Hopefully they are still getting into their groove?  I must say that I disagree with those bad reviews!

I've had my share of cheap (~$8) Sushi lunches, and the quality of the fish here for the prices is very impressive.  The scallop, super-white tuna, and salmon were all very fresh tasting, and the staff was very friendly.

The cooked food we had was not as impressive (not bad but not great); I'd recommend sticking to the sushi.

Rancho Bravo Tacos

Categories: Mexican, Sandwiches
Neighborhood: Capitol Hill

It was a shock today to realize that I'd never taken the time to review Rancho Bravo, an establishment at which I eat almost weekly.  There are so many good things to say about it that I almost don't know where to begin.

The Décor: To call this place "no frills" would be an insult to frills.  Rancho Bravo is literally a taco truck that has moved into an abandoned KFC.  Rather than remodel, paint, or even mop, Rancho Bravo simply hung a hastily made nylon sign and called the renovation complete.

Location: It's hard to imagine a better location.  It's lack of atmosphere is totally overridden by the fact that I never eat there.  Instead, I take my tacos, burrito, or rice and bean bowl across the street to the lovely Cal Anderson Park.  If you're hungry for dessert, you're in luck!  Molly Moon's Ice Cream is right next door!

Food: Rancho Bravo's food is pretty much second-to-none, at least for the price.  I've tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed.  My favorite items are the Tacos and the Rice and Bean Bowls "Al Pastor" (spicy pork).  Don't forget to order a side of Guacamole!

Summary: If you're on Capitol Hill and hungry, you pretty much have no excuse for going anywhere else regardless of the time of day (or night).

Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour

This is an amazing tour.

In the modern era, I think we consider flying somewhat trivial.  This tour will give you a new appreciation for just how amazing it is, and how complex an engineering feat it is to get a 500 ton airplane into the sky.

Also, the scale of the buildings here has to be experienced.  Your brain just can't comprehend spaces of this size.

Awesome tour!  Highly recommended!

The chocolates are delicious (if overpriced) and the factory tours are very enjoyable.  Make sure to call ahead for reservations if you want a tour, but I highly recommend it especially if you have visitors in from out of town!

You can get a filling dinner for less than $5.  And not crap food, but some of the best falafel I've ever tasted.  Mamoun's is the bar by which I now judge all Middle Eastern restaurants.
