I'm a fan of this bar, but let me warn you of the potato salad. It tastes exactly like when you bit the top off the elmers glue bottle in elementary school. How their potato salad tastes like elmers glue is beyond me.

This place was not bad. The I like the most about the Korean restaurants on Convoy Street is you always get a picture of iced tea. The service here was great and the waitress was always filling up our glass and refilling the small plates. The kimchee here was pretty good. We ordered the seafood pizza pancake appetizer, which was really good. I orderd the bulgogi and that was really good as well. My friend got the seafood soup, which was huge! Way to much for one person to eat. We are not a fan of the blue crab that comes in these soups though, way to hard to eat. I wish they had soft shell crabs in there instead.

Wow! Let me say that again, wow! This place is so good. It was such a great experience. We ordered the 1lb live crawfish with sausage and corn, however I only had one piece of sausage but was hoping for more. 1lb of blue crab, which is a pain in the ass to eat. Next time it will be king crab. A half dozen oysters which were delicious, a 1lb of mussels which were really good, except a couple which were a little overcooked. The only thing I do not recommend that we had are the crab cheddar poppers. They are just pre made frozen in a package poppers with minced imitation crab and cheddar. They were pretty much a disappointment. I did have a great time here though and can't wait to go back. I must say this place has the worst music, it reminded me of being in an arcade in Tokyo. Way to intense for a supposed Louisiana style restaurant.

Sushi Deli One

When Sushi Deli One was still downtown on Broadway it was actually the first restaurant I ate at in San Diego when I moved here ten years ago. Me and my friends used to love the downtown location, it was hip, had a great atmostphere and an amazing staff. The Sushi chefs at that time were still Japanese and if you sat at the bar they would give you custom rolls. Then one day the building was bought and Sushi Deli One forced to shut down to make way for a high rise, which was never built and now its a parking lot.

This forced them to move Sushi Deli One to Hilcrest into a former Greek restaurant. I still have not gotten into the new atmosphere here, it is bland and boring and can't remotely compare to it's glory days downtown. Over the years my favorite items have been disappearing from the menu as well, such as the surf clam, korean bbq beef and baked dynamite  appetizer. I didn't come here for probably a year because i was so disappointed in them.

I went back a few times with my friend and started eating the spicy tuna jalapeno poppers, which is basically half a jalapeno with cream cheese and spicy tuna then tempura battered and deep fried. It is pretty much the best jalapeno popper I've ever had in my life and this alone brings us to Sushi Deli now once a week. The other tempura dishes here are good too, and I like the salad doesn't use the typical ginger dressing other sushi restaurants use, which I hate. As far as the Sushi here goes, yellowtail sashimi is usually good, but sometimes it is cut weird and last time it had fat on it which was kinda gross. The Salmon and tuna here are alright too. The seared albacore is the worst I've ever had, always dry and taste like a sunbaked sponge. Several of the rolls are pretty good. The fish is not the best quality here, nor is the seaweed. But you can't expect more from the price, it is good for what it is.

Minh Ky Chinese Restaurant

So I get a text message from my Jon for the third day in a row wanting to go to Convoy Street for lunch. The past two days we had done Korean food and I was in the more for chinese today. I searched yelp to find out what the best Chinese Food in San Diego was and Minh Ky on El Cajon Blvd. in City Heights was at the top of the list.

We parked on the street because we didn't see it right away. We walked around a bit and located a drab hole in the wall with the works Minh Ky on it. My friend was like" are you sure this is the place?"

We walked inside to a completely packed restaurant where we were the only white people. We sat down, while  getting some stares and smiles from people near us.

The waiter came over and was extremely friendly, ordered ice tea and received it right away. The menu at this place is huge, over 200 items. I ordered the dumpling and wonton soup and the 1/4 roast duck. Both of which were amazing. My friend ordered the seafood egg noodle soup. He loved the noodles and broth, and said the shrimp was amazing, but compared to most seafood soups I've seen him eat this one was not up to par with content. Other then shrimp it was full of imitation crab and different kinds of processed fish things you could not identify and did not have the best of taste. None the less he has spent a lot of time in China and commented that this is the most authentic Chinese restaurant he has been to in the states.

We will definetely be coming here again in the future.

I'm not a huge fan of yogurt, but I have tried it a few times and it is really good.

What i was stoked on the most when this placed open is that they had boba milk tea. I've had it a few times now, and I keep having to remind myself how much it sucks. Way to sweet. Their teas taste like sugar water with fat balls in them. I wish there was a Tapioca Express in North Park instead.

The be honest when this place first opened I was not the #1 fan. But I did come in and check it out. Remember Scolaris was still around and Pink had just opened, which meant that this bar brought a new element into North Park.

However, once Scolaris switched to The Office and became one of the worst bars ever, I started coming here more and more, while at the same time the bar adapted more and more to the neighborhood. I met the owner and the staff, all of whom are awesome people.

The drinks are priced well and are usually nice and stiff. Plus they have tall can PBRs which is great.

Every Monday you can catch Lady Dottie and the Diamonds, one of San Diego's premire Blue's bands. This night is always busy with the dance floor shaking away. Tuesdays nights is bull riding. I've done it once, but I always enjoy watching people do it. I know the do live bands on Wednesday, but I've never been on these nights. Friday nights Gabe Vegas and Saul dj with specials guests and this night is always a blast. Every other Saturday has Cory Biggs and Huge Euge reping the Bike Scene.

The best part of U31 is if you ride your bike there you get in for FREE.

Convoy Tofu House

I've been coming to this spot for years. The first person who took me here was a Korean girl I was in love with. She is long gone now, but Convoy Tofu House has brought me and my friends much pleasure, always leaving with a full belly and smiles on our face.

The staff here has always been extremely friendly. Your dining experience starts with a pitcher of iced green tea and an assortment of appetizer bowls. The kimchee here is out of this world and we usually end up getting another order.  This restaurant specialized in hot pots and korean bbq. I usually switch up between them every other time I come. My friend tried the seafood noodle soup recently and that just looked amazing, full of various kinds of seafood.

The only thing I don't like is that they have a Sushi Bar here but it is not open for lunch, which is the main time I can come eat here! Other then that, it is superb.

Red Barn

Myself and my friends Cory and Jon made a trip to Palm Desert recently and stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Indian Wells. I called my friend Patrick Sheehey back in San Diego to have him recommend a good bar for us to go to. He said if you want to meet some rock n roll girls this is your place. We ended up taking a taxi to a  restaurant down the street from the bar. After we ate we walked towards Red Barn.

When we approached the building we thought it was shut down and out of business until we heard some sounds come through the cracks of the front door. I pulled the door open and into this amazing dive bar we entered. The place was fairly packed with an amazing mix of desert hipsters, punk rock kids, metal heads, motorcross bro's, skateboard bro's, tweakers and older white trash people. I walked to the bar and ordered us a round. We made our way to a booth and began people watching.

I started noticing that a lot of the girls were looking in our direction. I commented to  Jon how I bet this place has a lot of fights. Shortly after, Cory and I went on the back patio to smoke and again started getting some stairs from the locals. Back inside and Jon tells us all about the fight we just missed at the pool tables. This place was getting fun. After a few more drinks we had met several people int he bar and I had a flock of girls following me around.

At around midnight some really bad band from New York went on, which actually went well with the atmosphere of the bar, which still made them enjoyable. I must say coming here was the best part of our trip to the desert. We all had so much fun there and will go back next time we head to the desert.

I hate this 7-Eleven with passion. It sucks that this is the closest late night market to my house. I go here atleast 4-5 times a week, which is more then anywhere else I go to buy beer or smokes. I've been to 7-Elevens all around the world, this location has the most unfriendly and bitter staff I have ever had the displeasure of doing business. The staff recognizes me, yet this is the only place I go where they know me, know i'm over 18/21 and still card me every time I buy smokes. It is bullshit that an establishment cannot recognize their regular customers. I look forward to the demise of this location. Please bring me a 24hr Circle K or Stop N'Go.
