Excellent Service! I found this place thanks to Yelp while in Bakersfield on business. With all of the great reviews on the Chicken Fried Steak I had to stop in and give it a try.

I sat at the lunch counter and struck up a conversation with a local who was also from Texas while we waited for our food. My order was taking a little longer than usual. The waitress, (I assume an owner?), came by and apologized for the wait. Then a few more minutes went by and still no food. She came back and apologized again and told me that my lunch was on the house.

When it finally arrived it was fantastic. The chicken fried steak was tender, yet nice and crisp, the cream gravy was also very nice. The green beans were awesome. I could eat a whole bowl of those.

After my meal I stopped the waitress, to ask if she was sure about the free lunch, I told her the food was excellent and I really did not mind paying for my meal. She insisted it was on the house, I thanked her and made my way out.

Next time I'll give the beef tips a try.

Looking for the Hottest Salsa in Houston?  This is the place for you.  Let me say I have been here twice and both times have been excellent.  
The chips are seasoned well and are very crisp.  

The regular salsa that they serve is OK.. Nothing to write home about, and not at all spicy, you have to ask for the Habanero salsa and they bring it out, no extra charge, be warned it is quite spicy, in fact I would say it's the "hottest" salsa I have been served in a Tex-Mex place around town.

The Queso Inferno is very nice as well, it has a little bite, nothing like the salsa tho, but for queso it's great.

After sampling several entrees I have to say my favorite is the beef fajita enchiladas with Queso Inferno over the top.  It's absolutely delicious.

This place is by far my new favorite Mexican restaurant near Cypress.

While vacationing in San Antonio I made my way back to Casa Rio.  It's been several years since my last visit and I must admit the food was fantastic.  

The Salsa was excellent, very fresh and spicy the way I like it.  We ordered queso as well, it was also very nice.

I ordered the El Rio.  This consists of guacamole salad, Beef Taco, Chili con Carne, a Cheese Enchilada, and is also served with fresh made corn tortillas along with rice and beans.  The food was excellent.  Well seasoned and the portions were nice.  My only complaint is the slow service we received.  If you are looking for Mexican Food on the river walk this place is great.

I was genuinely excited about giving this place a try, what a let down.  The burgers are just mediocre, they are largely tasteless, something like you might expect to get at Denny's or IHOP, not at a restaurant that supposedly "specialises" in hamburgers.

They say you can have endless fries with your burger as well, but be prepared to wait for them.

Do yourself a favor, go to Beck's Prime or even Fuddruckers.. You will be much happier.

On a few occasions I have stopped in the parking lot only to find the place packed and passed, as I did not want to wait.

Last Monday I decided to give it a go, at an off time, around 2 PM.  Wow this place was still VERY busy, but at least there was no wait.  

After taking a glance at the menu I was quite surprised.  This isn't your regular Tex-Mex restaurant.  In fact being from Texas, I don't think I've ever been to an establishment like this.  I would say this Tex-Mex is heavy on the Tex and the La (Louisiana).

I was really in the mood for enchiladas and I did order the beef enchiladas.  The chips and salsa were nice, not very spicy, but the taste was excellent.  

My lunch came out quite fast.  The enchiladas were very well done, the beef was a pulled beef, similar to what you might get on a BBQ sandwich in Texas.  No re-fried beans here, but the black beans were absolutely great.

I'm sure I will return if I can catch them at a time when the crowd is light.  Next time I will sample the Cajun food.

If you are looking for a traditional Mexican restaurant this isn't it, but if you want something new and refreshing give this place a try, the food and service is great!

Wow, this place was great!  I've been on the west side since November and up until now I haven't had a Mexican restaurant that I REALLY liked in this area.

The decor is very modern and thought out very well.  This is how it should be done.  The menu is short but sweet and everything that came out of the kitchen that I tried was excellent.

The chips, salsa, and queso were all top notch and yes the red salsa was quite spicy.  

The next time you are on the west side and want Mexican food this is where you need to go.

On the way back into Houston I noticed the sign for Hofbrau Hill Country Cafe and decided to pull off and have dinner.  

I really enjoy country cooking restaurants, but there seems to be a shortage of really good establishments in the area.  

The decor inside was what you would expect in this type of restaurant.  Old metal signs and license place line the walls along with witty one liners.

The menu has all of the country favorites and steaks as well.  They also have several items with different order portions.  Small, Regular, and Texas Sized.

I ordered the Texas Sized Chicken Fried Steak.  Our waiter balked when I placed the order and asked me if I had ever had one before to which I replied no.. But I immediately informed him that I've had my share of "big" CFS.  

Now for the food.  The rolls they serve before the meal are tasty and fresh.  The CFS was big for sure, but it's not the biggest I've ever seen.  Everything seemed very well done, the problem I had was our waiter was a little strange.

A few things seemed a little on the cool (cold) side, and I believe it was because our waiter left the food sitting on the pass to long.  We waited an extended amount of time to get our food.  This is why they only get a 4 star from me.

I would definitely go back again,  next time I hope we get a more pleasant waiter.

I'll start by saying the chips and red salsa were amazing.  The salsa tasted fresh, and was very flavorful.  I also liked that they bring you a large bowl of chips to the table.

The service was just OK, but considering they were quite busy on a Sunday evening, I can forgive it.  

The fajitas were excellent.  Both the beef and chicken were very tender and well seasoned.  I also enjoyed the re-fried beans as well.  They were a little on the salty side, but I approve.  

The cheese enchiladas were above average, but not the best I've ever had.  All in all for this side of town this place is a safe bet for your Tex-Mex cravings.

I had to stop in and give the "All-Day Burger" a try.  It was excellent.  It consists of a 1/3 pound hamburger, two sausage patties, plenty of bacon, ham, egg, with tomato and pickles.  The fries and milkshakes were also excellent.

I had eaten at Sam's old location several years ago and it is just as good now as they used to be.

I will be back again for another All Day Burger again soon.

You just have to experience Jax Grill.  I give this place 5 stars because taking into account the type of eatery it is, it doesn't get any better than this.

The food is excellent.  I chose the chicken fried steak and fries.  I loved every bit of my meal.  The steak was done to perfection, and fast!  The cream gravy was also very well done.

The portion size was OK.  I've had much larger, but also much smaller.  I would categorize it as medium size.  It's actually just right.

If you want fresh, great tasting food and fast this is the place.
