After our stay at the Homewood Suites in Champaign, I'm positive that my wife and I will not be staying anywhere else when we are in the area. As the first stop in our summer road trip, my wife and I stopped in Champaign to see the campus, our old stomping grounds, and one of our friends that still lived down there. We were very pleasantly surprised by how nice the Homewood Suites were. Our room had Flat-screen TV's and DVD players, a full fridge, stove, and a dishwasher. Breakfast and dinner were complimentary with draft beer and wine! It was just a great place and I highly recommend it for any visiting Champaign-Urbana.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed the Lincoln Museum. I guess this was partially due to the fact that I had no idea about it before we walked in. The museum is an amazing multimedia experience detailing every aspect of Lincoln's life. Any tourist in Springfield should make this there first stop, not only because it is such an amazing place but also for a better understanding of the chronology of Lincoln's life as you visit other sites throughout the city. Whatever you do make sure to see the "Ghosts of the Library" show at the museum. It will blow your mind. (One more tip: make sure to check in on Foursquare for a 10% discount in the gift shop. My wife is a history teacher so we made sure to make use of that!)

Everything you ever needed to know about farm equipment, all in one place. My wife and I checked this out since we were staying across the street at the Radisson. I must admit it was pretty cool to see how huge these machines are. The store was cool too and I made sure to pick up a shirt to remember my visit to Moline.

An amazing monument that must be seen. It is almost eery when you really look at it, which, according to the signs, was the intended feeling the architects wanted from visitors.

God, what a horrible experience, especially in contrast to the nice time we had just across the river in Moline. As part of our summer road trip, my wife and I stayed two night in the Quad Cities, one night at the Radisson in Moline and one nights at the Isle. (The Radisson couldn't keep us two nights because they were booked for the weekend due to a Michael Buble concert next door at the iWireless Center.) While our time at the Radisson was very nice, the Isle was just horrible. The place is depressing and gross. We had big bugs in the room that even got into our suitcases. We didn't even know that they had gotten in there until we found one that must have been zipped up inside when we left. My wife is worried we were contaminated by bed bugs but so far we have checked everything and found nothing except for that big bug in the suitcase. Still, I wish we hadn't stayed there.

On our recent road trip, my wife and I were really worried we would have nothing to fill our time in the Quad Cities. We looked online before we got here and didn't find much to pique our interest. Man, did we get lucky when we saw the ad for IA Segway in the visitor's guide in our hotel room. We had a great time on our Segway tour, and our tour guide Cole was really knowledgeable and funny. Definitely a high recommendation and a great way to spend a couple hours outside.

Thanks to the combined facts that it is very popular on Yelp and that I grew up about 3 or 4 blocks from the place, I knew I had to try Saigon Grill. I am quite glad to report that I loved it. My wife and I went there last week for an early dinner and had a great meal. Sonny, the owner, was just as nice as everyone has said. The menu is small but that is a good thing since they really work to make everything delicious. We ended up ordering the spring rolls to start. They were huge and very fresh. Definitely a great choice. For entrees, I had the shrimp bun which was totally new to me but very good. My wife had the sweet & sour chicken since she wanted something that she knew so that she could compare. She loved it as well and was really impressed with the cuts of white meat. We loved Saigon Grill and will definitely be back. I even recommended it to my father who went the very next day and loved it too.

Navy Pier

Navy Pier is a tourist trap, nothing more, nothing less. The amount of fun and entertainment you will have there all depends on two things:
1. Did you choose the right activities to do?
2. Did you bring enough money to do them?
If you answered both with a yes, then you can have fun at the pier. For instance, if you choose to take a dinner cruise and are willing to pay for it, you will have fun. Navy Pier is more about finding something you like to do and doing it. If you don't find anything, then it is a letdown.

I really enjoy Adobo Grill here in Chicago, so I did not raise a fuss when it was decided that we would eat at Adobo Grill while my wife and I visited Indy. We had a good time and the food was good. Our problem was that we felt a little ostrasized. Our group (4 people) were seated in a little alcove area in the front of the restaurant all alone and away from everyone else in the place. It just seemed a little weird. We were there for fun Mexican food and we were off by ourselves in the quiet front room. I am sure if I ever head back, I will have a better time. I do want to stress though that the food was very good and as usual the guacamole made tableside is awesome.

Neighborhood: Near North Side
River East has all the qualities to make a good theater: lots of screens, shows independent movies, quick service (especially if you just need to pick up the tickets you bought online), many good nearby restaurants. The only thing that stops it from being great is the planning factor. What I mean is that this theater is in high demand due to its location, so if you want a good seat, you have to get there really early and be ready to defend your seats once you have them. If you are late, you will probably be banished to the lower level seats and have to endure the pain of a craned neck.
