Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen

I've read through the 1 star reviews, and pretty much everything I've read would be correct based on my last experience here.  Quick review:  overpriced food, bad service (no aloha!) and way too crowded.

We waited about 50 minutes to get in, which was as long as we expected; I couldn't believe the hostess quoted us "30 minutes" with the amount of people waiting outside.  Maybe she anticipated that people would give up and leave...who knows?  Well, THAT wait was least of my gripes.

I started to feel encouraged that it was going to be a good experience when as soon as we were seated, the waiter took our order with a fancy handheld, I presume Wi-Fi, device and our drinks soon came out with another server.  Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there.

First of all, I observed a table next to us who got seated a few minutes later.  They unfortunately had to wait fairly long to get seen by a server.  It was probably a good 10 minutes until someone took their order.  In those 10 minutes, we waited for our order...and then we waited some more, all the while being seated RIGHT by the bathroom where people were lining up...ugh.  About 30 minutes into our waiting, the table next to us got their order before us!  I looked and saw that they had ordered two of the same things me and my fiance had:  banana mac nut pancakes and eggs benedict.  We finally got ours a several minutes later.  That just didn't seem right to me.  I know it's kind of minor, but I think it spoke to how disorganized they appeared to be.

The food was nothing extraordinary.  I don't normally partake in eggs benedict because it's so rich, so I was hoping that these would be good;  they were okay, definitely nothing special.  My fiance didn't rave much about his paniolo omelet.  Certainly not worth waiting an hour and a half for.

And of course, we ordered the banana mac nut pancakes.  We had the banana mac nut pancakes once before.  The last time we went, we heard that it was a great place to get some brunch but I knew nothing about the banana mac nut pancakes until the server suggested it the first time.  Having no real expectations at the time, we ended up really liking them.  This second time around, it just wasn't that great.  I'm sure they tasted the same as before, but perhaps it just isn't as good as we remember?  It's like we gave into the hype.

The lack of quality in the food would be forgiven if the service wasn't so horrible.  We didn't get checked on once before or after getting our food and our water never got refilled.  I had to flag someone to get our check; the waiter seemed irritated that I approached him.  I figure the faster we get our check, the faster someone else can sit here to eat their overpriced food, right?

Perhaps my biggest gripe with Boots and Kimo's is that they are a cash only business.  With their upgrade to a new space (with confusing decor, might I add) and increased business with all this word of mouth, they seriously can't get a merchant account and accept credit cards??  Seriously, you are not a hole in the wall anymore, Boots and Kimo's.  This stupid cash only policy coupled with bad service just says that Boots and Kimo's takes their customers for granted and that is NO way to run a business.

All that said, I am done with this place.

Might I mention that the aforementioned table next to us left before we did?  To be honest, I don't think the server even helped them.  Made me wonder if they left without paying...  Might not have been a bad idea at all...
