the deliver (later than other nearby thai restaurants).  the food is consistently good, and they hardly ever screw up my (off beat) order (more than i can say for other thai places).

i really want to try the basil tofu, it sounds better than the crispy tofu.

not my favorite thai place in san francisco, but modern thai is very convenient.

the tomato basil soup is reeeeeaaaally good.  the problem is, they often run out of it early (before 1pm).  i agree with some of the comments on the staff, but it's also a hit or miss.  i've encountered some really friendly, diligent staff here.

quick and pretty cheap.  not bad for a financial district lunch!

i heart el zocalo.

the food is delicious (the cactus flower pupusa is out of this world amazing). the prices are amazing (under $10 for a large meal with leftovers!).  the service is good - a little slow, but everything is made to order!  and besides, while you wait for your meal you can eat chips with this amazing salsa.

yeah, i am a fan.

my one word of advice:  avoid the el salvadorian cola.  it is kind of foul.

some friends and i thought we'd try something different (standby =pancho  villa).oh, pancho villa, i am so sorry i betrayed you.  the line was shorter at los coyotes for a reason.  the prices here are higher, and the food is really kind of blah.  i don't expect hole in the wall taquerias to be vegetarian friendly, but this IS san francisco.  compared to this joint, pancho villa is indeed vegetarian friendly.

the only reasons i gave los coyotes two stars instead of one is that the staff is friendly. and the ambiance is quite amazing when you're not sober.

what can i add that has not been said?

for one, i am a PICKY eater. i usually only eat bread and cheese (in any combo thereof), and a few other limited vegetarian foods.  i am NOT adventurous when it comes to food.  not at all.  however i am willing to TRY and ORDER new things at burma superstar because everything is that excellent.

i could eat the tea leaf salad every day.  and burma superstar owns a piece of my soul.

Patxi's Chicago Pizza

3.5 stars.

i am from chicago, so clearly i am biased.  but i do think zachary's (across the bay) is better.  however you gotta give patxi's some credit.  they deliver to my house (zach's doesn't deliver period).  and they try - at least they get the concept of chicago pizza right.  however the times i ordered from there, the crust has been soggy, and the pizza is dripping in grease.  but it still tastes ok, if you know what i mean.  actually better than ok... ;)

so until i can get back to chicago (for a two day visit, that is my max) and eat at CARMEN'S PIZZA, patxi's will satisfy the chicago pizza craving that runs deep in my soul.

The Mountain Winery

 Update - 7/31/2009
five stars after the remodel!

by far one of the best outdoor venues i have ever been to!  our seats kicked ass (front row, section 1, which is FRC), thanks in part to the fan presale.  but there's not really a bad seat in the house.  the lighting is amazing now, and it even seems like the parking is easier than years past.  they don't care if you take photos as long as the artist is down and you don't use a flash (no professional cameras either, but that is standard venue policy).

i now officially LOVE the mountain winery and hope that the indigo girls come back for another visit in 2010!

This is one of my least favorite places to catch a live show.  It's hard to get a good seat (and trust me, there are PLENTY of rotten seats in the house), the sound is not so great, and the majority of people there are stuffy and sort of snotty.  Tickets and parking are both overpriced, and driving is the only way to get there.  The only upside is that yes, it is in a beautiful location.  But I'd rather catch a gig at a place like the Fillmore or the Warfield any day!

my roommate and i needed a new place to live in SF.  we had several requirements and had an interesting situation.  some property managers wouldn't work with us at all.  not gavin.  after he showed us the "perfect" spot to live, we emailed him right away (before we could even get around the block).  with minimal hoops to jump through, the place was ours!  the process, from looking at our new home to signing the lease to getting the keys, was as seamless as it could have been.

gavin has also been ON TOP of it for all maintenance issues, returning emails (and sometimes texts) within a few minutes.  gavin is honest (won't promise you the world if he can't deliver), and my roomie and i LOVE LOVE our new home!

full disclosure:  gavin did ask me to write this review.  but i, on my own, gave him five stars.  i am a real person (yelp elite) and am not a bot set up to write five star reviews.  i'm not sure why all of the naysayers dislike gavin so much.  we had as positive of an experience with him as possible.

Pet Food Express

Category: Pet Stores

5 star rating

i swear, pet food express hires the best, friendliest, most knowledgeable people.  i ran out of cat food and happened to find myself in alameda on wednesday.  since i am very loyal to pet food express, i mapped out the directions to this location.  i really love the pet food expresses in the castro  (on market and dolores) and in oakland (on 51st/telegraph near the safeway).  thankfully i found the employees at the alameda store to be just as exceptional as the employees in san francisco and oakland.  so friendly.  especially peggy.  while i know exactly what i need when i walked into the store, it was still nice to talk with someone as friendly and knowledgable as peggy.  and i can't complain about the store cat either!  rumor has it that he can be mean, but he was nothing but a sweet kitty to me.

i love pet food express and as long as i live in the bay area, i will never get my pet food anywhere else.  pet food express only sells high quality food and they have the best staff around!

by the way, this is a LOCAL chain, so i have no moral issues shopping here!
