Kick ass cheesesteak. That's about it. Grimy hole in the wall dive. But one hell of a sub. A heart attack in a bun.
Large steak & cheese, chips and a soda - $12.

So I gave this place a shot after reading all of the glowing reviews of this Eddie character. After reading so many entries, I was suspicious that this Eddie guy has lots of friends with internet access. Why would a mechanic get this many positive reviews?
Well now I know.
So far, only an oil change, but I get it now. You know this guy is legit. Really nice guy. And you just know he's honest from the first few minutes you get to know him.
And you know what, yeah, I feel like I'm one of those friends of Eddie that I mentioned a few seconds ago. You really feel like you have known the guy for years after the first time you do business here. I never would have expected an experience like this from a chain.

The Skating Club of Boston
Category: Skating Rinks
Neighborhood: Allston/Brighton
I finally cleared a Sunday afternoon so I could hit their public skating session. Called a couple times over the weekend to make sure I remembered the right time. I did... 2:30. Even called before heading over. It was pretty hot and humid and I know many rinks shut down in those conditions.
No - they were open according to the recording.
I get there and sure enough, a bunch of pissed off would-be skaters are dumbfounded. The ice is clear and ready to be used... but no. They decided to cancel the public session for some kind of training. And here's the kicker - whoever booked the ice wasn't even using it. So common sense logic would make you think they wouldn't want to waste the opportunity to get the $8 per person from the dozens of people who showed up for the public skate.
Nope.
The guy running the place said no and closed the rink.
Seems like a nice enough rink though - I'll go back. I just wish they had the common sense to post on their web site or modify their voicemail when they are going to screw around with their schedule.
I will say though the kid who worked in the skate shop was nice. Thus the 2nd star.
Again, if you're eating healthy, this is a 5 star deal.
If you're not, eh, it's pretty average.

If you're trying to eat healthy, this place is 5 stars.
If you're not, 3 at best.
Week 3 of eating healthy so this place was a great find. They're obviously not the french fries you'd enjoy if you were at McD's... but for being health, they're damn good. Solid burgers too. The chocolate shake I had (with lowfat yogurt)... ehh, not so great and a load of calories. Prices are a bit up there for what you get. Better lunch combo specials would be a good idea. The existing one is a burger/fries/soda for $9.

And never mind with the pepperoni. Bland and average. The sauce and cheese, however, good stuff.

The bonus star is for the staff and the fact that 2 of the 3 CD's ($2 each) I was going to buy were stolen out of the cases. The guy knew to check before ringing me up... saving me $4.
Seriously? Someone would steal a $2 CD from a thrift shop that gives money to charity? Sad.
For the heads-up staff and charity factor - it gets the 5th star.

So glad I did. Solid choice for someone who just needs the basics: new, clean, working equipment without juice bars, classes, etc.
I usually go at night and only 1 of every 10 machines is being used at a given moment. That could change when students come back, but so far I'm really happy with this place. Free parking... you can't go wrong.
If I had one complaint, it's that they close too early on weekends. I'm a night gym go'er and 7pm is tough.

Geno has no friends.

I liked my chicken parm sandwich. But by no means did it change my life. It wasn't even the best part of my day. It was just good. The pizza slice (looked too tempting to pass up)... eh, above average at best.
I'm definitely going to give this place another shot to get that 5th star. It can't have this high of a rating for no reason. I just wasn't nearly as blown away as previous reviewers. I really wanted to love this place. I'm a chicken parm fanatic. I've done a list of my favorite chicken parm dishes from around the country. This place didn't make that list.
