Austrian Bakery
Category: Bakeries
Neighborhood: Lincoln Park
1. Their cakes, cookies, breads and sandwiches - all five stars. Most recently, I purchased their opera cake for a small gathering, and it was a hit!
2. The bakery itself is absolutely charming. This is a great place for a quick lunch, studying with coffee and pastries (or just coffee and pastries), catching up with friends and hanging out.
3. Free Wifi.
4. Friendly staff.
5. Mike the Baker - I'd marry him so I can eat delicious cake for breakfast and dinner daily.

It took me two years to finally try Austrian Bakery! And it was everything I was anticipating! My family business is down the street and I decided to grab a bite while I was in the area visiting the parents.
This is a cute little bakery with about three to four tables. The loaves of bread are displayed out front... all with beautiful shapes, colors and textures. Here you will meet Mike the baker. Mike is charming, flirtatious and a bit hard to understand (heavy accent!!). He is delightful and you can tell he is very proud of his work!
Everything on the menu sounds delicious. I had a hard time choosing between the chicken, tuna and mozzarella sandwiches. After going back and forth, I went with a sudried-tomato/basil /mozzarella/balsamic vinegar sandwich on sunflower seed bread. The bread was VERY hearty and almost too hard. But you could tell it is very good for you! Comes with full sour pickles that are guaranteed to make you make a funny face. Comes with a free bag of chips, but I passed on that.
Choosing the dessert was a hard decision. Chocolate eclairs, opera cakes, German chocolate cake, tiramisu, raspberry parfait, ... so many options to temp and bring you over to the dark side!! I finally went with the cinnamon apple bread pudding. It was absolute perfection! I had it cold, but I think it would have been better warm. Next time I will have to try the German chocolate cake!
Finally, the staff is very friendly!! This is a lovely restaurant with good food, delicious desserts and excellent service. Very affordable too - sandwiches are between $5-7 and the portions are very large. Dessert slices are $2. I will most definitely be back!
Hmmm. No thanks.
The delivery guy also took more than an hour to get to our office.

Prosecco
Category: Italian
Neighborhoods: Near North Side, River North
We were seated in the small private dining area that is super charming and adorable. This is really the perfect spot for an uber romantic dinner for two or an intimate dinner for 6-8 friends. The lighting in here is ideal for dates, as it makes your skin look perfect. My girlfriend leaned over and said... your makeup looks amazing. What did you do differently?? yay.
We started with a toast of Prosecco. We were waiting for two friends who were driving in from the suburbs, and they were very good about slowing the dinner down so we could wait for them.
For dinner, I started with the Bufala mozzerella salad. It is large enough to share with another person, and very good. For the main course, I really really wanted the trufflgasm pasta (Orecchiete Tartufate), but had the Filet instead. It was cooked perfectly medium rare, and was delicious! My girlfriend had a risotto dish topped with shaved black truffle.... this is the third best thing I've tried on their menu. I also recommend the zuppe de pesche if you're in the mood for seafood.
For dessert, we had the pistachio gelato and raspberry sorbet. This is a heavenly way to end a meal.
Service was impeccable. I will be back again and again.

Holy Bananas. I am in love with this restaurant.
I came here for the Girls Night Out dinner hosted by the beautiful Brett D., and had a lovely time. The ambiance was perfect, food was amazing and the company could not have been better!
Prosecco is definitely an ideal date restaurant. The lighting is perfect and makes your skin look super radiant, and the overall decor is very nicely done. It is super romantic!
Because we were dining in a large group, I was able to sample many of the dishes. Highlights include:
Gnocchi Gorgonzola - This dish is made out of heaven. I'm not kidding. It is super dense and heavy though, so you might want to consider sharing.
Orecchiete Tartufate - This might be the best pasta dish I have ever had. The aroma of truffle immediately hits your senses as the plate is set down, and every decadent bite is just as satisfying as the last one. I was SO FULL, but could not stop eating this pasta.
Petto di Polla Gratinato - I tried a bite of Brett's dish, and it was super tender and flavorful. Absolutely delicious. Generous portion size too.
Dessert - I love me some Tiramisu, and they do it well.
Excellent - Five stars all the way.
My only complaint is that I went home and collapsed in my bed in a food coma. It's that good.

We went to the back to check out the dance floor. It is intimidating! I swear, it's like they hired people from Dancing With The Stars... they are that good. Holy bananas they can move!
So we went back up front to throw back some liquid courage. I had a mango/vodka concoction that was incredibly sweet and went down like candy. It was a little too good, because I found myself on the dance floor shaking my hips in my attempt to salsa. Apparently, their mojitos are also very good as my girls were right next to me, dancing like we were back in college.
Overall, we had a super fun night, and paid for it the next day.

I didn't find the staff to be very helpful, but I wandered around and looked at all the cosmetics, fragrances and skin care. SKINCARE!!!!
Hooray for carrying my favorites - Lancome, Shiseido, Kinerase, Benefit, Fresh, makeup forever. This is really the perfect place to pick up cosmetic basics.
I walked out with some Brown Sugar Body Scrub, Mascara and Smith's Lip Salve... I really had to restrain myself from going nuts.
I had to take a shower when I got home because of all the perfume I piled on, but it was worth it!

The decor is very nicely done. I imagine it will be even better during warmer months. It is not like his others, in that dream like/alice in wonderland/over the top way, and is very much toned down, yet still rich, decadent and fun.
We headed downstairs to a private room, and it was a charming lounge with dark, sexy wood, comfortable seating, fabulous bartenders and delicious cocktails.
We did not do dinner here, but I did have a few of Carol's handcut fries. If I wasn't wearing a skin tight dress, I would have indulged more. I will be back to try their menu!

Overall, the bar was clean, drinks were strong and the bartenders called me honey a few times. Nice.
There is a nice space in back to dance, and the bathroom is not scary. Frankly, I was expecting kind of a dive, and was very pleasantly surprised. They did a great job decorating with spooky accents, and were festive with us.
Good job.

I had a lovely night! A little too much fun as I am paying for it today!
Thanks to Colleen, Jelena, Andrea, and Johnny on another great event.

Ok. I tried ordering again because I really like their food. It's very good. So I placed an order, and the food came in 20 minutes. BUT IT WAS THE WRONG ORDER. I ordered the chicken schwarma plate, but got 12 falafels instead.
MEGA FAIL x 2.

I'm still on my Middle Eastern food kick.
I am obsessed with Baba Pita's babaganoush. And their chicken dishes are absolutely fabulous. -

I am on a Middle Eastern food kick, and Baba Pita satisfied my craving!
Their chicken kabobs are the most tender and flavorful I've had in a while and their falafels are delicious. Great hummus and their babaganoush comes pretty chunky. The portion sizes are huge. So be hungry.
Fresh, (feels) healthy and flavorful. I've found my new favorite Middle Eastern place!
Date

Until that one night when it was freezing outside, and I had a long and stressful day at work. All I wanted to do was go home and crawl into my bed... yes, one of those days! So I decided to pick up some comfort food for the road, and realized La Gondola was on the way home. YAY!
I tried their signature Rigatoni Boscaiola.... and I almost wish I hadn't because I could eat it every day. It is rich, meaty, spicy, tangy and sweet deliciousness. The portion size is ginormous, and is enough for three people.
The dish came out with a nice salad and excellent take out containers. I swear they are insulated because the dish was still piping hot when I got home.
La Gondola is pure love. I'm really glad I don't live anywhere near there because it's dangerous.
