Arbor Car Wash & Lube Center

These guys have improved their services tremendously. Last time I came here, they pushed hard for a tire rotation, wipers, air filter, and upgraded oil. I told them no and ended saving a ton of money by going to an auto parts store for those parts I could change. They sent me a coupon in the mail so I thought I would give them another chance. This time, they weren't pushy at all. Just reminded me about my air filter, which I had changed, and that was it. No hard sell. Needed the FREE car wash so it worked out better this time. Only complaint which keeps them from getting 5 stars is the special air filter that costs me $10 extra, now if I could only find a way to avoid that...
p.s. They also give you a coupon for a Free Mighty Fine Burger on your receipt. Bonus!

Ask for Danny from Tyler, TX, he's the best waiter in the restaurant. My champagne was crisp, my veggies fresh, and my chicken was cooked to perfection. Their lunch pre fixe menu had many choices and the service was superb. Enjoy!

OMG!! I just made $540 for stuff that has been sitting in my jewelry box for years. And they cut me a check right on the spot!! Old broken bracelets, broken and tangled necklaces, broken rings, backs of earrings, unmatched studs, mismatched hoops, and those questionable pieces of jewelry you just don't know what they are where they came from. The manager, whose name escapes me, I think it was Leticia?? was very quick, honest, and friendly. Yes, advertising does pay, their cheezy TV commercial got me in the store.

Anyways, she explained the whole process from beginning to end. First, they place all your jewelry in a pile and go over it with a magnet to get rid of the Gold "plated" stuff first and all the non-Gold costume jewelry and remove that from your stack. Second, they look at the rest to try and find the "stamps" that say if it's 10K or 14K or higher and put those in a grid. (One old panda gold coin from a ring I had since high school was 24K!!) Thirdly, they take the "questionable" pieces that don't have stamps and run them through some kind of Gold tester. Some of mine fit into this category. And lastly, she shows you on the computer what the going rates are (minus their profit) and then Presto! you have a cash (check) offer on your goods.

She even gave me back a few rings with jewels and diamonds in them, since they mainly buy the gold only, and told me to take those elsewhere because some jewelry shops will pay for both the Gold and the Diamonds or stones. The whole process took less than 45 minutes.

I highly recommend the Gold Gals for their professionalism, expertise, and also by knowing that the Gold will be melted "in-house". Plus it was convenient to Central Austin off Guadalupe and kept me away from all the Pawn Shops throughout East Austin where they probably would have ripped me off and/or wouldn't have explained the whole process in such great detail. I felt I got a good deal for something that I know nothing about.

Their hours are Monday 10am-4pm, Tuesday through Friday10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-3pm and closed on Sunday.

What's in your jewelry box???

Awesome cleaning service! Friendly, fast, and can accomodate any schedule at a moment's notice. Sandy and her crew are professional and on-time. They have been doing make-readys and move-outs for my Real Estate clients, both owners and tenants for a few years now. I've even used their cleaning crew for my personal residence. They use "Green" products which are safe for the enviornment and it still smells good weeks after cleaning. Give them a try and tell 'em DebbieKnowsAustin, the Realtor sent you.

What?? I'm the first to review?? Aww, yeah!! Don't be afraid of the Eastside....this place has a great atmosphere. Eric, the owner, has made some changes along with his new managers, Virginia and her gal (sorry name escapes me right now). They have cleaned up the restrooms, rearranged the furniture inside, painted the floors, added misters to the large caged-in patio, large screen TV, etc...This was one of the stops on our recent 1st Annual E. 6th St. Pub Crawl and we bombarded the place. There was dancing inside (country, tejano, rap, etc...) and lots of socializing and drinking going on the patio. Check out this place during the week for specials like $1 Tecates on Tuesday and Thursdays. Still has lots of locals that have lived in the neighborhood for years plus it's also GLBT friendly. Plenty of parking and don't forget Tacos By Selene on your way out (see other review).

Manager Mark, who I recognized and he remembered me and Catherine from Suzi's Shoal Creek and Dan the Man for your waiter, makes for a great night at Bar Chi. You must, I repeat, you must try the Pineapple infused sake. I kept mixing it with the regular sake and I had a tasty time. Glad we took a car2go to get there (designated parking spot right around the corner on W. 2nd) and cabbed it home afterwards. I've been there twice and hope to return again soon. They have awesome happy hour prices before 7 p.m. and also a late night happy hour after 10 p.m. even on the weekends in Downtown Austin!! The first time I went there I had 3 Happy Hour rolls, an order of hot edamame, 2 beers, and mochi balls dessert and my bill was only $25!!! You gotta go. I recommended them to @SushiGirl_ATX and follow them at @BarChiSushi on Twitter. Tell 'em @DebKnowsAustin sent ya!

Austin VeeDub

Update - 1/27/2011
Daryl was in my dream last night! He was reminding me that I told him that I owe him a dinner gift certificate because he saved me over $600!! Not by saving my money by switching to Geico...but because I took my VW Passat to Austin VeeDub. I had some kind of mechanical failure under my hood and Daryl remembered that there was a "dealer" recall on this particular problem a few years ago. Somehow, Charles Maund missed it while I was under warranty, and they would remedy it. Daryl even let me have my car towed from Austin VeeDub to Charles Maund. What?? You mean you didn't make a penny off this repair and were honest with me and saved me spending $600 at your shop??Charles Maund didn't charge a thing either. How crazy?? HONEST MECHANICS DO EXIST and Daryl is one (and shout out to Damian, service guy, at CM too).  p.s. I sold my VW recently and I miss it so much. As soon as my new car falls outta warranty, I'm definitely buying another VW.

Darryl rocks!! I haven't taken my 2006 VW Passat in for service in forever and he still remembers me.  My friend Leia, a former Jetta owner, recommended this place to me years ago and they go above and beyond customer service.
I referred them to my cousin, Lisa, an attorney, for her Passat and Darryl tells her to tell me Hello and vice versa. You don't even get that at your own dealership!!
After taking my car to "Just Brakes" (see bad review on Airport Blvd.) I thought I would give Austin VeeDub a call. They saved me over $200 by doing my brake job. All this without those damn radio jingles that drove me to that other place, ha!
They even washed my car upon pick-up which was a nice surprise.  Go there with your VW and get some love, it's worth it. Tell Darryl I sent ya!

Loved this place!! Harry and Don are amazing hosts. They are both tour guides in New Orleans and know everything. We booked a weekend stay here before our NCL cruise out of New Orleans port. The little touches such as snacks, waters, and breakfast were excellent. It's walking distance to everything, clubs, bars, sushi, and we felt safe everywhere. Parking passes are a plus. They even let us keep our car there during the cruise and even dropped us off at the port. Little touches like this saved us a ton of money so we brought them back gifts. They really know this town and are great hosts! Book it! You won't be disappointed. The grounds are beautiful and the hot tub was steaming.
