La Michoacana Deli

This place is greaaat.  I heard from a friend that they have the best and most authentic tacos in Charlottesville so i went ya its the best.
Their tacos are very fresh and not too heavy but fills u up.  They have 6 different kind of meat from regulars like chicken, beef, pork and bbq to something special like beef tongue and beef tribes.  Tongues are my fav, i just love the texture of it. Also you can pick to be authentic Mexican taco or americanized one.  I personally likes the Mexican one better becuase of the freshness it comes from the cilantro n its much lighter without sour cream and such.
Another thing i like about this place is the Mexican burger thingy they have.  try the something something cubana thing (sorry i forgot the exact name)  its has a lot of different meat btw buns n if u r a meat loveer like myself it will def be a hit.
It is my fav place for a quick bite.
oh it is cash only so make sure u bring cash or it will be a biggest tease!

Sushi Love

New sushi place at the corner where ZydeCo used to be.  I decided to try it for after passing by it.  I was kinda skeptical because no one was inside when i passed by on monday.  It happened to be that it was their opening week, and today was the 3rd day of business.  The owner Daniel is nice talkative guy.  Apparently its a chain from California that moved here.
Lunch menu was fairly affordable, my friend ordered the bento box.  It came with 3 choices of side dish where you can choose from i think something around 10 different choices.  Came with rice and salad and such, she couldn't even finish it all and i think the price was around $9.
I ordered their sushi and it was good.  The fish were fresh and rice was well seasoned and it was not that expensive, 14 pieces (2 tuna, 2 salmon, yellow tail and shrimp and 8 rolls of spicy tuna) for  around $13.
Since it was opening week, they gave us complimentary green tea and mochi ice cream.  The green tea was great, it wasnt those cheap green tea, it was good green tea.
Since it was opening week, I think they really cared what they served and i hope they keep up this good job.
Of course at night its supposed to be like a bar so i hope it will be a great place to hangout at night too.
overall great experience.

2 Sides Restaurant

Interesting concept with a restaurant and bar in same place but separated by a wall, thus give it the name 2 sides.  Owner said they wanted to please both the family and adults where family can have quiet dining experience at the restaurant while men or father can have fun at the sports bar section.
The dinning area looks like traditional american dining room with checker floor and such.  The sports bar had pool table and some games and such.
The food were nothing special.  We had Philly cheese steak, and country style steak.. both were ok.. nothing special.  Hog wing they had were pretty good, which was fried pig's thigh, it was like crispy ribs with juicy meat inside.
overall nothing special.

Aqui es Mexico

Wanted to come here after watching Top Chef Masters and seeing all these Mexican food that I have never seen before...
Very simple looking place from both outside and inside, kinda in the lil hidden part of Charlottesville, but food was great.
It was actually my first time eating Mexican food that is not taco or burritos, so I guess I wont really be a good judge here, but all I can say is i enjoyed the food.
Their fajitas was well spiced and had nice kick to it, but not too much.
I wanted to try different things so I ordered combination #3, which came with beef chimichanga, huarache of shrimp, and gordita of chicken... nothing really stood out, but all were good, not great.
Everything was pretty cheap too.
Def going back there to try more mexican food.

only been here for lunch buffet but its been a great lunch every time.
The decoration is very elegant and nice.  The buffet is a great value, with wide variety of selection in both meat dishes and vegetarian dishes.
Curries they have are great, the grilled chicken is lil dry, the vegetarian dishes, even tho i am not vegetarian, are flavorful.  They even have nice desert, their rice puddings are great!
Maybe i will go there for dinner sometime.  Def a great choice for lunch.

Great beer selection, lil over priced tho...
a lot of unique mix beer drinks too
Their nacho's were huge which is a great appetizer to share and pass time by.
The bison burgers were great with nice touch of pretzel buns.  It was unique and good.
Their scallops were simply amazing.  Cooked perfectly and great size too.  My friend had the scallop salad and it was so good that i had to order extra scallops on the side just for myself... it was that good.
def a fun place to go.

The first time I went there, the whole block had a lil blackout.. so they were on limited menu and had to cook with propane gas portable stoves or something similar, but it was a Great experience!
Their drinks are amazing.  Elliot was refreshing!
Grilled flank steak salad with soba noodles, edamame, and soy-wasabi vinaigrette was something new and very very good.
the fresh fish tacos was great too.  their guacamole and chili salad had lil twist.
Their desserts was amazing!

However, the second time I was there, which was on a normal day, the experience was not as amazing, yet it was still good.
their calamari could have been lil more crispy
The Paella was great but the steak was good, but not great.

overall still a great restaurant!

It is def one of my favorite restaurant in Charlottesville!
It is always very crowded, especially on a nice day.  actually never sat inside so idk how the insider seating are but huge outside seating area.
great selection of food, all sounds very interesting and leaves a lot up to imaginations.  Its very hard to pick from so many selections.. I think it will be great to go with big group so you can try many different kind of dishes that they offer.
also what i love about their menu is that it keeps changing!
some of the memorable ones are
solomillo de kobe, was truly amazing... that kobe beef strip was sooo soft and juicy... woah
Dati con tocino, dates wrapped with applewood smoekd bacon was also great... combination of the sweet, juicy soft dates with crispy bacon was perfect!!
Cant wait to go back there and try their other dishes.

Went there on the restaurant week.
Heard it was one of the oldest restaurant that have a high reputation so tried it.
nice outside garden looking area, the downstair, which i heard used to be a smoke room, was very cozy.
citrus champagne vinaigrette that was used for the salad was very refreshing and good.
gnocchi was good too.
the roasted chicken was lil disappointing.  There was nothing special to it.
the steak chinoise was great.  the steak was very very tender and well seasoned.
peach and blue berry cabbler was decent.
overall not a bad restaurant, but did not quiet live up to its reputation...
well maybe its because I went on restaurant week...
