Rice Trax Teriyaki Grill

I haven't been keeping up on my yelp reviews unfortunately but I have to admit that any place I find that I frequent 5 times in under 2 weeks means it must be good!!!

I started moving on December 19th and after making on trip I pulled into a parking lot right near my new house. I wasn't quite sure what I would find but wanted to know what my choices were going to be going forward in the future..

I spotted Rice Trax at the back of the complex; it was behind a gas station as well as Outside Inn. I was a little wary so I did a quick google search and all the great Yelp reviews came up so I decided it was worth a shot.

I walked in and not sure what to order I asked the girl behind the counter for help. I really didn't want anything deep fried, so she suggested I try the fried rice.

The fried rice is build your own. You get 4 skewers of meat, chicken shrimp or beef, as well. After you have picked the meat, you choose 3 vegetables (I chose peas, green onions, and broccoli) and a sauce. She suggested the garlic sauce as their house special.

They make everything to order so I sat to wait. In under 10 minutes my food was ready to go. I took home eat as I watched a movie and was thrilled at my meal.. I have taken a bunch of people there with me since, and others have gone as a result of my tweets and pictures...

LOVE THIS PLACE!!

Whooo hoo!!!

I had been hearing about this place for months but had yet to make it out to check out the track.. It lived up to the expectations and more!!

I headed out to the track on thursday afternoon earlier this week. I arranged to have me and 7 UFC fighters picked up from Red Rock Hotel and Casino by a limo company Exotics Racing uses, Presidential Limo. It was quite a long drive but the guys were buzzing as they looked forward to their experience that day.

We arrived at the garage located at Las Vegas Motor Speedway around 1:30pm. I believe that they had about 18 different exotics there and as we were filling out paperwork, we looked around and took photos of some of the cars.

We started with a 30 minute briefing in a side room before being taken out by a Porsche Cayenne to get a feel for the track. the handling in that thing was amazing!! all the fighters were grinning ear to ear after we got back from that.

Soon we were given a helmet and sliding behind the wheel. I was given a memory card to hang around my wrist which the instructor asked for an plugged into the camera system. After a few more instructions we exited the garage and entered on to the race track. It took me about 2 laps to really get a feel of what was going on with the car and the way the track was set up.. the last 3 were spent really feeling and hugging the curves.. It was over all too soon though!!

Once back at the garage, i was promptly put into the passenger seat of a turbo Porsche where an actual racecar driver screamed out onto the track with the sports car and drifted all the turns taking turn 7 & 8 completely sideways...

After it was done, I spent time talking to the guys about their own experiences and didn't even realize the time had passed enough that we were being handed our DVD recordings of the entire experience...

Whoooooo hoooo!!! can't wait to go and bring more friends back there!!

Veggie Delight

I've actually been frequenting this place for years from when I used to train BJJ next door at Sergio Penha's... We would come over as a hugr group after we were done training for Boba drinks that I always got without milk in them.

It was therefore  weird to come here to check out the place for their vegetarian & vegan fare.. ALthough turns out the veggie shrimp rolls I had been in love with, were just that.. VEGGIE!!!

So I decided to check this place out and have a full lunch hear with my food buddy, Ross.  He's not a vegetarian but very open so came with me to try it out..

I of course ordered a strawberry Boba drink and started our meal with my fave, veggie shrimp rolls.. Ross was impressed by them as I knew he would be..

I ordered the veggie mushroom chicken and he ordered the veggie pork chop; each with sides of rice. In spite of me almost ruining lunch by dumping my glass of water across the table, we jumped into the dishes tasting each one as they arrived at the table.

Of the two, the mushroom chicken was my favorite. It had a yummy  brown sauce on it that I poured over my rice. I liked the fact that the pork chop had a last of vegetables surrounding it but was my lesser favorite of the two..

Being that I am already a fan of this place, I have all the more reason to go now and sample more of their dishes... looking forward to trying out the veggie lemon grass beef next time!!

if you're looking for a fancy upscale place to have lunch, this isn't it. but if you want some good food with that "hole in the wall" feel, you've found it!!

Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant

I love dim sum and have hit it up in as many cities as I can while on the road. I have eaten it in at least 4-5 different countries..

When I went in search of dim sum on friday morning while in Toronto, my friend suggested Noble. When we sat and found we had to order our dim sum from a menu, we were out the door with our group of seven looking for the more traditional serving of carts and punch cards. We found it a few blocks later with Sky Dragon.

The place was located on the top floor of the Dragon City Mall. Another in our group had been there and suggested it to us. So we took the leap of faith and went inside.

The decor was rather dated- i'd say circa 1980 by the couch that adorned the front area along with the mirrors there on the wall. The main part of the restaurant was nothing to get excited about.

Although the place was packed, they accomodated our large group immediately and within moments, we had about 15 plates stacked on our table. Two out of our group were dim sum virgins, and I was dealing with my veggie issue (it's a non issue really as I still eat shrimp or fish).

I was blown away by how many shrimp dumpling choices there were- even a shrimp and chives dumpling pan fried that reminded me closely of a potsticker which is one of the choices I miss the most! Shrimp rolls, shrimp wonton soup, sesame balls, and more. I was not for want of items to eat. My friends dove into their char siu bao's and potstickers and various other delights.

We got the bill after it was totalled; it came to less than $70 before tip. What? We each put in $12 and called it a day! What an amazing price for how much food we had gotten. Their prices, while always affordable, change depending on the times of day you are there.

And, after this meal we so thoroughly enjoyed, we stepped out onto their balcony over looking the city and the CN tower for a bunch of photos; us being the tourists that we were. We loved it so much we went back again with a smaller group on sunday afternoon.

East! Restaurant

My last night in Toronot for the UFC 129 weekend, and we were drained, it was late, and craving a restaurant to sit down and enjoy friends' company, a good atmosphere, and something that was going to be consistent with my new veggie lifestyle...

I turned to my trusty yelp (i'm becoming a huge fan because of my frequncy of travel- both to learn of new spots as well as share the ones i've found) and utilized the open now checkbox as well as the neighborhood one and searched thai food.. East came up near the top in that selection, and although it didn't have the best reviews, my friend I was staying with suggested we try it..

It was listed with $$ which I think was quite accurate in hindsight; although it was still very affordable our bbill ended up being about $150 for four people. I'm sure that had to do with the four or five bottles of sake my friends dove into.

We started off the meal with fried calamari which was pretty standard; it was the accompanying sauce that was super spicy and it's after taste was resonating in my mouth till my entree arrived. The menu was HUGE and I was almost at a loss on what to order, tell you the truth. It was an asian fusion mix and boasted an entire veggie section.

I ordered the tofu with asparagus, which actually was a dish that included a ton of other vegetables. I got a side of coconut rice, and after seeing this was actually a desert, ordered a jasmine rice too. Of course I ate the coconut rice first, lol.. My girlfriend ordered the famous chicken pad thai which I tasted sans chicken; it had such a noticeable tomato base. I was a huge fan of my dish, but hers was below average. My other friend had the tempura fried cheesecake for dessert. I sampled that too, and it was pretty yummy.

Overall, I loved the atmosphere on this restaurant. The decor was extremely nice and pleasant to be in as well as converse in. The fact that it was open till 11pm on a Sunday night was definitely scoring points with me. The food was pretty good, but not above average. I would definitely eat there again, though.. Wish there was such a thing as half a star?? 3.5 stars for me...

Yard House

I have recently gone vegetarian and I find some sort of irony that this new diet is what has brought me to Yardhouse in Vegas for the first time. I have been to Yardhouse before in a few other cities, but had a friend tell me last week about their vegetarian menu.

They use a meat substitute called gardein and it can be used in any of their dishes but they even have a section of the menu devoted to all of their vegetarian dishes. I decided to choose the chicken & veggie bowl with jasmine rice.. I expected it to be like a teriyaki sauce, but I have to admit that was my own assumption... In spite of not being sweet like I expected, it was a very delicious meal that I thoroughly enjoyed. My friend ordered the veggie chicken strips with a side of sweet potato fries. Of course I had to try this and I have to admit I would have loved to have ordered those too...

I think this is going to be another one of my new spots to frequent as it can totally fit into my diet and keep others around me happy too...

yay!!!

PS: Can someone tell me why this isn't classified under vegetarian?? I would have found it a lot sooner...

Estiatorio Milos

I have to admit I was really shocked when I saw the reviews listed here after such a great experience at this restaurant last night.

I got to the cosmopolitan around 10 pm to meet a group who had partially already ate. Some of our group was starving so we made our way up to the third floor where we put in our name for a table at STK. The place was a mad house and we were ready to sit and eat so we chose instead to head to Estiatorio Milos directly next door. The fact that I have taken meat out of my diet made this a more favorable choice anyhow.

Our party of 8 was seated at a large table within minutes of walking in the door. A number of us promptly walked over to the kitchen where a selection of fish was on ice. A waiter walked us through the different fish options and before we knew it, we had chosen a large red snapper.

Then we headed back to the table where we ordered a large selection of appetizers including the grilled octopus, 12 jumbo shrimp, calamari, and a beefsteak tomato & onion salad. .As we waited both bread as well as flatbread were delivered to the table. This reminded us we needed hummus as had their spread selection sent out.

The food started arriving and we all dug in; including the group that had already eaten. The grilled octopus was to die for, and the beefsteak and onion salad was a perfect blend; not overwhelming on the onion as many of those salads can be. The jumbo shrimp were sweet and meaty; cooked with a blend of mouthwatering spices. The calamari, well, it was calamari- nothing too exciting there.

The chef sent out a few complimentary plates to the table that included a spicy tuna tartar and sashimi as well as a tower of fried zucchini & eggplant (probably my least favorite item I had that evening). And, throughout the entire meal, I couldn't stop eating the flatbread and hummus! All of that food disappeared quickly with everyone at the table absolutely thrilled with the food we had thus far eaten. When I say all, I mean we ate EVERYTHING!

And then the snapper came. For some reason I had come to the conclusion they had forgotten about it, but the waitress explained that it takes about 10 minutes per pound to cook. Now, I am not a huge cooked fish fan because I can't handle even the slightest of fishy tastes. This fish was so mild and cooked so tender and amazing; I caught one of my friends stealing some off my plate as well as his girlfriends!

On top of it all, the service we received was extremely attentive. I completely look forward to frequenting this restaurant more in the future!
