Maxim's Restaurant

At very few places does the food gross me out so much that I'm unlikely to return and try other offerings, but Maxim's is one of these places.  In the area there are several places to go for sit-down dining service for about $15/person and this is probably the worst of the options.  They're fine if you're looking for an omlet and a coffee, but to go beyond that, keep away.  I have stopped in for brief snacks here and there but I've never actually had a full meal there despite having worked across the street for 2 years and now my suspicions have been confirmed.  I was randomly wanting a French dip sammy and I called to verify that they offered that which I craved.  Despite searching the menu for 15 minutes, I was unable to locate said sammich.  That's because it's hidden under another alias which I cannot recall.  It was some sort of cast-off mystery meat that tasted less than appealing and they forgot to bring the soup as I had requested.

What would Gordon Ramsay say??  Cut the menu down from 100ish items, perfect what you offer, and update the decor at least a little.  I know that there's something romantic about feeling like you're dining at the diner from Seinfeld, but it's 2012 now....  come on.  Just sayin'.

They just changed the vendor at the Chasement and it's HORRIBLE now.  They increased all of the prices by about 15% and they reduced the offerings.  For example:  you used to able to get 2 sushi rolls, edamame, ginger, and miso for $8.86 out the door.  Now it's $9.36 and you no longer get the soup... and they stopped making the spicy tuna spicy?  Um, don't get it.

They also stopped selling huaraches and no longer have shirmp at the mexican counter.  Horrible choice to switch to Compass from Aramark.  They messed with my lunch and I am not pleased.

P.S. It is the concensus in my office that it now sucks so I'm not the only one!!

I went there for take-out today.  I (obviously) can't speak to the dining room which is where the troubles seem to be but the take-out was great.  It's a deli and the decor is as such, which I love.  I really wish that they operated the front like a real deli counter because that would be epic, but they don't.  Anyway, it is exactly what I need in a deli without bells or whistles.  They have awesome pickles which is a large factor in determining deli excellence and their matzo ball soup was great.  I'm looking forward to checking out some other things on the menu so that I have a better idea how I feel about this place.  It's no Brian's Deli, but it will do for when I'm not willing to make the trek over there!!

We went to Lula as a group and I would HIGHLY discourage taking a large group here.  Yes, the food was great, but I'm not sure it was worth waiting 1hr15min for it.  I think that when I go back with a smaller group, my impression may be very different, but this is what it is for now. Food: good, Service: fine, Decor: fine.

DISCALIMER: I went here INCREDIBLY hung over, so this may or may not be a completely accurate review.

We went in seeking the perfect brunch replacement for our beloved Pura Belleza.  We had heard that it was expensive and just okay, but we actually found it to be average priced and pretty tasty.  I got the Huevos Divorciado which were amazing.  I have to admit that I'm a sucker for green chile, so it was kind of a layup.  They also have fresh OJ so that's always a plus!

It's not the perfect replacement but it will certainly do until we find The One.

I went to Dr. Memar because I was having these crazy allergic reactions and he fixed me right on up.  He also removed a mole and helped me find the right lotion for my really dry skin.  He makes you feel beautiful and he's good at his job...  what more can you ask for in a dermatologist?!?!

I have been going to Dr Wise for 4 years now and I love her.  She is professional, makes you feel comfortable, answers your questions patiently and in terms you can understand.  Yes, the office does usually make you wait, I get that... but so do most offices and I am willing to wait for a doctor who I really like.

I went to see Dr. Sisson as I have had really good experiences with Northwestern doctors and I wasn't incredibly impressed.  I think that he is probably very competent as a physician but I didn't like his bedside manner.  I didn't feel as if he was very empathetic to my situation and he made a few comments that made me feel as if he just wanted to add another check to his box of procedures performed and move on.  I am glad that I have gotten second opinions and I don't have him as my only option.  I think that he is probably a great doctor when you need him, but I like someone who understands that I really do have crazy, messed-up feet and I need them to be in the boat with me, not on the outside.
