excellent food and PERFECTLY prepared, but the prices make me feel like Watty (or Meg) is trying to dig out of credit card debt. or signed a subprime mortgage.

A bit insider-y looking from the outside, Real Azteca is actually a group of sassy Amazons who work their culinary magic from behind the bar. Sit there to charm free samples and salsa from them; but if you're not careful, they'll charm you into coming back...again and again.

They're my Bronx sirens!

I don't speak French, but if I had to guess, "Le Pain Quotidien" probably translates to "PAINfully expensive bread, served with a scowl". I thought the food -- and not the service -- was supposed to be French.

The seats, the screen, and even the sticky floor are holdovers from the 80s; it feels like they are going aggressively maintain this charm until it's finally vintage (not yet).

But what this really means is that you get a "Welcome! Shut up and buy some popcorn" sequence full of lasers, space, and an 80s MIDI dance track! That alone is worth it -- and better than most movies I've seen lately.

It advertises Chicago deep dish pizza. The problem is that it lives up to the ad: it tastes like it was made and mailed from Chicago...last week.

Ok, sorry, but... the eggplant mozz appetizer. You'll never be the same; it will rock your Italian socks off.

It's also my favorite first date spot. So if you find yourself there with me, I hope you know what you're getting into.

On Cinco de Mayo 2009 this was the only Mexican place for miles that wasn't booked solid. No wait at all!

...we should have taken that as a hint.

Nectar

I said "OH NO!" the minute I found out they delivered; the food/smoothies are so amazing I knew I would never need to leave apartment again. I pictured myself devolving into a gelatinous hermit, sitting on a sad throne of nectar smoothie cups and panini wraps. I've always been on the brink, really.

But that fear soon left when I saw three women frantically collide and fall down (with strollers) to get inside the small door. Each one desperately wanted to get their (nonfat soy!) smoothie orders in first.

It seemed like I'd have to come outdoors for Nectar after all: the spectacle was too funny to miss.

If Andy still/ever exists, then he is a chubby balding non-Asian man who has never eaten food in China, Chinatown, or even Panda Express, but imagines what it might be like.

That's what the food tastes like.
