good food in-house but horrible experience trying to get them for a catering gig. Multiple phone calls were not returned and whomever picks up the phone at the restaurant could use a crash course in customer service.

convenient? yes.
well stocked? yes- lots of cute cards, wrapping paper, envelopes, anything you might need.

For that, I give a star

friendly.....uh I'd have to say no--the last two times I've been in there- the girl that waited on me couldn't muster a smile or a friendly word.

stumbled on this place by accident while searching Oakland Chinatown for a Chinese style bakery to get my paper-wrapped cake fix. I've been to a Cambodian restaurant in SF a long time ago, but the food here seemed fresher and tastier. I loved their #92- tofu, cherry tomato, pepper and onion shish kebab char-broiled with a delicious lemon grass and tamarind sauce. seriously delicious. The portion sizes are really generous too.

yummy homecooked vegetarian Indian food-just the thing when I am craving food like Mom used to make.

The portion sizes are big enough for two meals- dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day. And the tomato dal and palak paneer are especially good

was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We were trying to find a place to eat prior to catching a Broadway show and ended up at this place. Dark, cozy and LOUD was my first impression, but it was a Friday, whatyougonnaexpect, amiright?

two standouts on the dinner menu for me. Vegetarians, do not pass these items up if you see them on the menu

Polenta with fricasee mushrooms and red wine sauce--so creamy and delicious.......
Mushroom duxelle ravioli with porcini truffle sauce. No words to describe how awesome this dish was. If I could have licked the bowl without sacrificing my dignity, I would have.

great casual neighborhood joint. Ordered the Neopolitan pizza sans anchovies and with extra olives. Crust was thin and crispy but found the pizza a bit too salty which kept me from finishing the entire pie. Also ordered the homemade chocolate mousse for dessert---I usually don't like the premade, refrigerated mousse in a wine glass schtick so many restaurants use but in this case I could forgive them- the mousse was creamy and rich and delicious. Will definitely be back to try some more of their pizzas---very veggie friendly!!

lucky me, I live down the street from this little treasure trove. it's the best place to pick up some locally designed jewelery, home decor items like prints, wall letters, vintage cameras, candles or typewriter letters. And I've always found it a great place to buy quirky birthday gift sat the last minute.( Don't look at me like that. You know you've done it too). The staff is helpful and will wrap gifts for you as well.

I didn't have high expectations for this place, but have to admit that everything I ordered was made of win. t

1) the plant burger was the best veggie burger I've ever had, hands down. I recommend getting it on sour dough with goat cheese

2) avocado salad- the macademia nut dressing elevated it from youer usual grapefruit -avocado tart and piquant combo

3) TCHO chocolate cake. enough said.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I was all set to enjoy the amazing cocktails I'd heard so much about, but the the so called hostess at the door did everything possible to make my friends and I unwelcome by telling us there was no room for us at the bar (newsflash- there were enough empty seats for our group) and then was just projecting a rude attitude towards us the entire time we were there. Alembic, you might have great cocktails, but your hostess needs to work on her attitude.
i'm done with you.
