My Last Meal On EarthAnything Italian
On a recent visit I had the New Orleans Seafood dinner - Broiled tilapia topped with shrimp and a Parmesan cream sauce. It had a good flavor, and was cooked about right. My wife had the Ribeye which was full of fat and gristle - not a good value for $16.99. Our waitress seemed uninspired and was rather curt. I figured it was a second job for the middle aged woman and she just wanted to be home.
This is was only my second visit to Tuesday's in about two years. At this visit, I didn't see a reason to be any more regular. I'll see if they improve when I come back in 2011.

First to Review
A real, old fashioned, one chair barbershop. Larry McKinnon has been cutting hair for more than thirty years and shows no signs of slowing down now. He does good, no nonsense work. He works mostly with electric clippers and his steady hands allow him to specialize in flat tops, but does a nice job with any hair cut. His clients run the gamut from construction workers to attorneys and executives. The shop walls are a virtual museum filled with mementos of all of Larry's past and present interests - sports, photography, taxidermy as well as newspaper clippings and photos of his clients.
The best thing is he works only by appointment and he always has you in the chair within a couple minutes of your appointment time - or is waiting for you when you come in. Just ten bucks for a haircut that includes a back massage when you're done. But give him a decent tip because it's worth much more than that.
Mike Breitbach came out and thanked everyone for coming. He made some mention about re-opening and told a story about a speech by Gen. Patton that his father heard while serving in WWII. He said, "Never, never, never give up!" And Mike said he won't ether. Thank God for his persistence, any normal person would've given up by now.

Three's a charm. You gotta hand it to the Breitbach's for rebuilding again after their second fire in less than a year. We'll be sure to make the trip and support them once they reopen later this summer. Here's the story from the Gazette: http://gazetteonl...

Sad to hear that Breitbach's burned down again Oct. 24, exactly 10 months after the last fire that destroyed the restaurant. No word on any plans to reopen yet.

Breitbach's is now back in business - completely re-built after the Christmas Eve fire! Read about it in the Cedar Rapids Gazette: http://gazetteonl...
They get an extra star for rebuilding this landmark. -

We'll miss Breitbach's Country Dining. It burned down on Christmas Eve. A must do when driving through NE Iowa to see the fall colors. Known for their home-style cooking and the great view of the Mississippi river valley from the scenic overlook just down the street from the restaurant.
The good news is Mike Breitbach plans to rebuild. A recovery fund has been set up at Farmers State Bank in Cedar Rapids.

Since opening their first store earlier this week they've been crazy busy serving up pizza and crazy bread. That's $2 soft garlic breadsticks - similar to Paul Reveres Pizza's, but not quite as good. I thought the last think this town needs is more pizza places, but Little C's seems to have carved out a niche in this over-crowded industry. Good luck to the new owner - an Iraq war vet.
