Liberty Hall

All of the best concerts I've seen, have been at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. I'm not sure there's a single "bad" seat in the entire house. Whether you're on the floor, or in the balcony, the view always seems "just right". I never fret when it comes to select-a-seat in this venue.

Sound, lighting, ambiance, crowd, space, bar, accessibility - Liberty Hall is top notch for music shows in my book.

The few movies that I've seen at Liberty Hall helped form my opinion that I LOVE seeing concerts at LH, and I'd rather see movies in my own living room first, LH second, and any other theater last.

I could hear the sound system from the other theater during the movie I was watching. Not to mention, I do enjoy beer & flix, but as such, the combination creates the need to drain the clam quite frequently. I'd just assume being able to pause and not disturb others... Ya dig?

So, concerts - OH YEAH!
Movies - Nah.

Panda Express 1489

3.0 star rating

I'm not sure their advertising is accurate since they DO NOT actually have panda on the menu, but the "express" part seems to be relatively true.

At this particular location, it's been hit or miss for me. Sometimes I'm in and out with what I want, hot and fresh! Other times, I go in and all they have is a pan of fried rice and a few shriveled steamed veggies. I'm a steamed veggies fan, so I always like to walk in and see that pan full, and glistening with oily goodness.

It's a dollar extra, but the Honey Walnut Shrimp will make you poop your mom's pants it's so good! Not yours! Your mom's! Yeah!

Anyhooooo... If you catch this location on a good day, when the team that cares is working (I think Thursday and Saturday), ENJOY!

If I had to slap an age range on this consignment shop, it would be 40+.  It's more for "ladies". That's okay! Just not really what I was looking for. I did find a few rings there that I liked enough to purchase. Staff seemed friendly.

Personally, when I'm browsing clothing, I don't need for an employee to check on me and ask me if I'm finding everything alright. It's clothing. If I've made it this far in life and can't figure out what a pair of pants looks like and where to find them, I might have a learning disability. That's okay!

Pretty pricey for secondhand clothing.

Portrait Innovations

3.0 star rating

After my son's portrait session fell through elsewhere (had him dressed and ready to go), I called Portrait Innovations and they got us in right away! Our appointment time was accurate, the waiting room was not at all crowded; there were about 4 other families/children there. I didn't feel rushed one bit when it came to the picture selection process. It's hard to narrow down 80 pictures of your child (who you think is perfect in every picture) to a reasonable package amount.

The photographer was a bit of a dud, personality-wise, but otherwise I thought he did really well with my 5 month old.  The photog was efficient and sensitive in finding comfortable and cute ways to pose my son. At 5 months, he wasn't able to sit independently yet, so we had to be creative with positioning.

Within an hour, my pictures were ready to pick up, and I was more than pleased. This was 3 months ago, and I still have TONS of pictures to give away.

Great quality! Nice folks! Sweet (maybe a little shy) photographers!

Menninger Brent MD

I've recommended Dr. Menninger to several close friends. After bouncing from doc to doc with little to no progress (and in some cases, regression), I finally found the guidance, medicinal support, and "honest intervention" that I needed.

Menninger is educated and practical. He uses clinical knowledge, as well as, learned advice from others to aide in his counsel.

Grade "A"!

Babies R US

I'm not going to blow this place out of proportion because of its obvious ability to cater to a specific need; baby junk!  Yes, they have everything imaginable for your offspring, and then some.  Price-wise, Babies R Us isn't very competitive with other places.

Of course, to "save" money at their store I became a Rewards member.  It was great at first when I was purchasing high dollar items; crib, breast-pump, mattress, etc. Now it's kind of worthless.  I still get a 20% coupon every month, but there are a lot of restrictions on its use.  You can't use it on diapers!  Say, huh!?

I needed some infant Tylenol one time, and was shocked to find that Babies R Us didn't carry it.  This place is alright.  I'd rather bargain hunt online, especially since it's hard to get out and about with an infant.

Michaels Arts & Crafts

I always thought one of the best retail jobs for a creative person (if they absolutely had to work retail) would be an arts & crafts store. To be surrounded by creative materials and shoppers, in my mind, would lessen the blow of being a "struggling" artist stuck in a crappy retail job. Just my theory.

Apparently, any work with human beings for a "struggling" artist is torture on their soul. Good luck finding a friendly or helpful worker at Michael's.

I was really put off when two workers decided they HAD to move the display I was looking at...immediately. Never mind there were plenty of other things a mess in the store that could have been attended to first.

The two workers crowded me and gave me little explanation before chasing me away from the display. I had spent an hour shopping, and if I hadn't really needed the items I picked up, I would have left my basket. Very rude. Very awkward.

I give this store 3 out of 10 glitter sticks for customer service and the store being a mess.

Smashburger

Beer! Beef!

I enjoyed my SmashBurger experience. The set up is very reminiscent of Chipotle.  Anyhoooo... You can choose a pre-made burger or chicken sandwich, or you can build your own artery clogging (complete speculation) masterpiece.

I had the "All American SmashBurger" - I know, how patriotic! My dinner companion and main-squeeze had the "Classic SmashBurger". Our side choices were Smash Fries and Deep Fried Pickles.

I thought my burger tasted backyardy! That, to me, was enough to make me a fan of SmashBurger. Fast food establishments have ruined my tastebud's sense of memory for what a real burger should taste like. I rarely get the chance to taste real beef off the grill anymore, and when I bit into that burger, it set something off in my memory. Very tasty!

The "Smash Fries" were trying too hard. I should have just had French fries. I like herbs, and Rosemary is definitely a good one, but I was kind of like... "Hey, Rosemary! Get off my fries!" The Fried Pickles, however, were Yum Town!

I have to applaud the staff there! So friendly and charming! I didn't get the sense from any of the workers that they secretly wanted to "smash" a SmashBurger all over their boss's face. That's a good thing!

If you get a burger...get the french fries or fried pickles, and if you get a beer...get a frosty mug to chug it from.

"Hey look, everything AND ice cream!  AND SUSHI!"

Full buffet, sushi, and Mongolian BBQ all in one place! The variety and flow of the buffet is expansive and easy to navigate.  The environment was clean and the service was friendly, fast, and attentive.

Great place for a large family gathering.  We had nine in our party and didn't feel cramped in our space.  We had 3 kids in our group, and there was plenty to eat - even for the finickiest eater!

New Balance

"Hi, welcome to New Balance. I hate my job..."

It's amazing how one salesperson can ruin your whole experience, but two salespeople with the same attitude is even worse! I was literally depressed when I left this particular New Balance store. They basically told us, "we don't have shoes for your son, go to the mall."

Beyond that, they just weren't knowledgeable. They tried to sell us the exact shoes our son was wearing.  When we pointed out that they were the same, just a different color, they just gave up.

The one thing that I can give them credit for is pushing us out the door and towards the mall; Stride Rite had just what we were looking for!
