I won a complimentary stay here, otherwise I would never have spent the night, (nor would I need to as I am a New Yorker) and I was thankful for the prize. The rooms are very cushy, with flat screen tvs and super soft beds. The cd player is going when you walk in the room, with a customized mix cd. The bathrooms are spacious and stocked with Cutler bath products. I didn't eat at the restaurant downstairs, so I can't comment on that, but if you want a swanky hotel room, I'm pretty sure this is the way to go.

The Diner

The Diner looks like it's title. The decor is all 1950's, but replace the fluorescent lighting with sexy dim lights and attractive waitresses. The menu is small, and kind of like gourmet comfort food.

To start with I had a 44 Pink Lemonade, which was delicious. Just sweet enough and got me tipsy.

To eat I had the boneless fried chicken which is served with mashed sweet potatoes and wilted spinach. Everything was delicious.

I took away a star because I feel it is a little overpriced, but I definitely am a fan.

Harlem BBQ

I will start this by saying it's better than Dallas BBQ. One step in the right direction.

I went during happy hour (5-7) so their speciality drinks were $4, with an extra shot thrown in (which wasn't free, like I was lead to believe, bring the total to $5) I got an apple martini, which was so sweet it gave me a headache, but it got me tipsy, so I guess that's all that counts.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which was ok by yankee standards, and the sweet potato fries, which were an extra dollar, and were also ok.

All in all, I may or may not go back. It was certainly A-ok.

Ok, let me start this review by saying the exhibit is AMAZING. Unfortunately I had to take away a star because you can't see half of it due to the crowds. If you are a gigantic Burton nerd (like me) do yourself a favor and go on a weekday, during the day. (not like me) I will be headed back because after having strollers run over my feet and being shoved by tourists I had to check out early.

I'm going to go ahead and say it. This is my favorite milkshake. There are many good milkshakes, and being a fan of dairy, I fought this bold statement for a while. But, I'm proclaiming it. Black and white milkshake, you win. I drink your milkshake, I drink it up.

I haven't gotten an individual cup here, but I did buy a bag of the peppermint loose tea leaves, which I was a fan of. They sell a lot of tea accessories as well.

I was really impressed with this place. It has unbelievable ambiance. It's pretty pricey, but a great date restaurant. On the website they recommended reservations, which we did, but it was totally unnecessary as they were sparse on a Saturday night.

I had the pear martini, which was fantastic. To eat we got spicy tuna rolls which were very fresh. I also ordered the sake black cod which was unbelievable. My date got the shrimp tempura which he said was pretty good, but not nearly as good as the cod.  I'm curious to try their other stuff, so I will definitely be back.

I am thankful I found Zen Palate, it is a much better option than Yum Yum. I had the scallion pancakes and the vegetable dumplings, and both were stellar. I will be sure to go back for a full meal.

Soul food New York style. I've toured my way around the South, and I'm going to go ahead and say it, Yankees just don't cook the same. This place was pretty good though.

Corn bread was too dry, so that was a mediocre start, but everything else was pretty great, especially the sweet potato fries, which were really more like crunchy sweet potatoes. They were perfectly cooked and didn't need a dipping sauce at all, which is saying a lot, because I'm a condiment queen. I had the seafood ravioli, which was really good. Beer is reasonably priced, mixed drinks are not.

I am so excited this store is in Astoria. It's a small boutique, but there are so many gems. The owner is super nice, and I always have a fun time shopping here. You will find everything from designer labels to kitschy sweaters. They also have a fantastic selection of accessories.
