I just had a great delivery from Happy All Cafe.  Yes, it is takeout but you can tell they make most from scratch.  I had a great and friendly girl answer when I called to confirm that my internet order went through.  I am also happy to know that they deliver to Timbergrove, yay!  We had the dinner specials (kung po chicken for me and mongolian beef for the husband) and added an appetizer of crab rangoons.  Everything was freshly made and hot!  My son had the pork dumplings and they were probably the best we've had from any restaurant in Houston.  You can tell they were hand rolled and stuffed.  I will definitely be ordering again and it far surpassed anything we have near and in Timbergrove.

This is a great school and the teachers are very loving.  My son has been here for a year and loves it.  He doesn't want to go home at the end of the day.  It is a great home-like atmosphere and is located in a small Heights cottage.  Only 3 classes of kids, so plenty of opportunity for teacher supervision and interaction.  The play yard is clean and safe and they use bark made from recycled tires as the ground cover so you don't have to worry about sand in the shoes every day.  They start at 12 months and go through kindergarten.  There are three options, half day (8-12), full day (8-3), and extended day (7-6), all with different price points.  If you are looking in this area, take a look at Three R's.

I also looked at Garden Oaks Baptist and did not like their set up.  It was too sterile and the kids did not look happy.  My son was also at Esperanza school (see my review) which we loved but not as much as Three R's.  We also looked at Saint Rosa of Lima which was an amazing school but had a long waiting list.  They go through middle school I think, which is great.  I've also heard great things about Zion and Gonzales Daycare.

The YMCA has great programs and facilities at very affordable prices.  We take our toddler here every weekend and we get to work out while he is in child-watch.  Then we swim with him and play basketball, his two favorite things.

The classes are great too.  We have tried the toddler gymnastics and the mommy and me swim classes.  I know as he gets older we will be more involved in the daycamps and classes.  I take away a star because they really need to expand this place.  The need is definitely here and all the YMCA's they build in the suburbs are huge with more facilities.  I would love it if they made this place bigger with more classrooms for the kids and more room in the gym.  Also a fun kiddie pool like I've seen at other Y's would be great!  Don't get me wrong, we love the pool; it has a great water slide!

This would be a great Burger King if it was clean, but it is filthy.  I like that Burger King now serves Mac and Cheese and apple slices with the kids meals.  Also you can get a veggie burger.  This location has an indoor playground.

Mission Burrito is good because it is cheap and they have outside seating.  It is good for a group and for when you want to get your beans, rice, tortilla fix.  I agree with Connie that it is nothing special.  Though I do like the toys you get when you wait for your order.  Toys instead of numbers, cool.  Also, I drove by recently and they now have a sand-pit with toys for the kiddos.  So it is going on my list for places where parents and their kids can go for a good time.  I will update my review with this in mind after I take my son there!

Dragon Bowl Asian Bistro

Update - 8/12/2008
This is my favorite place for take-out.  The ingredients are very fresh and never greasy.  The food is made on the spot and not just taken out of a larger batch like other Asian restaurants I can think of.  My favorites are the pad Thai, seared tuna and the pot stickers.  Also, their 7 treasures won-ton is awesome on a cold day.  The prices are very reasonable.  It is like a fresh alternative to the Pei Wei chain.  It can get crowded during peak hours so be mindful of that.  They are kid-friendly and have high chairs.  You can mix your own stir-fry dish out of a selection of veggies and meats, you can pick as many veggies as you want.  The Korean barbecue sandwich is also very yummy!

And since I first reviewed Dragon Bowl in February 2008, they have added sushi to the menu, and it is very fresh and awesome just like the rest of their menu.  While I wouldn't choose them first for sushi, it is definitely a fitting addition to their menu.  I do wish they would add a crab rangoon....

In January I had a very expensive dinner at Mark's including some seared tuna which was overcooked and, of course, expensive.  (though the succulent Kobe beef I've had there still makes up for one bad meal).  The next day I had seared tuna from Dragon Bowl and it was awesome, far surpassing the Mark's debacle.

Had lunch here today with a gal pal and it was awesome. I've had a lot of things on the menu and have never been disappointed. This is where I go when I want some indulgent food without the guilt. Today I had the tomato and basil pizza and a small spa salad. The ingredients are always fresh and they go out of their way to use less oils and more low fat dairy products. Other favorite meal combos include a chicken salad sandwich with a side of acorn squash stuffed with honey and pecans; and a buffalo burger with a combo of onion rings, french fries and sweet potato fries. The iced tea is good too. They usually have a regular tea and an herbal tea. I have not been to happy hour but the prices look great and there is a pomegranate martini that looks good for $3. It is a walk-up-and-order-take-a-number-they-bring-it-to-y ou-but-get-your-own-silver-ware place. I have been taking my toddler son here since he was born, the staff is very nice and flirts with him. Also when he was really little, I would sit outside with him so that no one would care if he fussed.

I took away a star because the service is sometimes sketchy as they can be understaffed during a rush.  Sometimes fast and sometimes not; do not count on it for a quick lunch.

Nundini Chef's Table

I found heaven at Nundini's.  It was in the form of a parma sandwich on ciabatta.  I had a brief conversation with the owner or manager, dunno which, regarding the importation of his barratta, a mozzarella-like cheese he flies in weekly from Italy.  And...here's what clenched it for me...they have wifi.  And no one's here.  And I am working and everyone is acting like I belong here working at this table.  And I do.

Okay, I realize that this is not a really good review in that it doesn't really describe the place.  But, trust me, you want to come here.  They supply many of the upscale restaurants in town, you would be doing yourself a favor to skip the middle man and get some fixin's from Nundini.

I have been going here for 2 years and 10 months (you do the math, I have a 2-year old).  As the others indicated, the female doctors are a plus if you are shy (which I'm not) or if you appreciate people who identify with your health issues (which I do).  The staff is amazingly nice.  The only time I've had to wait was when my doctor's patient went into labor and she was on call.  Usually they are busy when lots of patients decide to go into labor at once.  They have been through a lot with me and have been gracious and supportive through it all.  They entertained my stupid first-pregnancy questions and concerns and treated each issue seriously and with respect.  They also have privileges at the Texas Woman's Hospital next door which is why I picked them in the first place.

Getting my feet rubbed as I'm writing this. I've been coming here for nearly 8 years and have had an awesome experience. It is clean and cheap and there are always familiar faces. I would not go anywhere else. Even my pedis from fancy salons don't last as long. There is a wait at peak hours at lunch and after work. Otherwise you can get in and out pretty quick as a walkin!
