I can NEVER find help here - it's worse than fred meyer. They have a banner up right now that promises lots of store help and a wine expert on hand. I have never been there when a wine expert was on the clock. Very dissapointing.

Awful. They normally have free water jugs (like everywhere) but during the comedy festival, they remove them and sell bottled water. Way to gouge, you won't see me again.

Nicholas'. Oh Nicholas'. If you visit from out of town and your friend doesn't bring you here, get a new friend. Nicholas' is Portland. It's cheap, it's not traditional American, it's small, the questionable outside leads to treasure within, transsexual bike-punk mechanics sit a foot away from businessmen, and everyone is wolfing down the mezza. In fact, if you haven't eaten here, you don't really live in Portland.

Nicholas' is crowded, but the wait is never too bad, I chalk this up to (1. They don't serve alcohol, and 2). This goodness will fill you up quick style). If you are disappointed here, you are an asshole and please go back where you came from and/or die.

Farm Café

Hurry up and put Farm at the top of your list for great date places! The interior makes for great ambiance with it's dark, warm, and cozy atmosphere, and it's perfect mix on not too casual, not too fancy lands you right in the middle of good taste land.

Speaking of good tastes, you really can't error here. The food is mostly vegetarian, with some fish, and nearly everything is locally and seasonally grown.. Everything is delicious. Everything. Throw a rock, (or maybe a chunk of tofu - don't want to hurt anything here) and you'll hit something good to eat.

Service is always great (with the exception of one guy whom my my entire table wanted to beat up, but in his defense no one could point to a particular reason. Perhaps I should change my screen name to abelovescruelty? abelovesfunandsometimescruelty?...)

I will warn you that Farm gets packed around 8, so if you don't want to wait I'd get there a little early, (although with the charming bar, a wait isn't so bad). Either way, get going!

Bishops Barber Shop

Bishops is, of course, THE Hipster Hair Salon. I mean, you get a PBR with your haircut. On a whim I went to Bishops and got a great cut by a great stylist, so I kept going back to her, then I followed my stylist when she left to start her own shop Do or Dye, and lately I've been going to Grace downtown. There's nothing wrong with Bishops, you can get a great cut there, (and some shitty beer,) and while you get cut you can ADD out on the collaged orange walls, too, but it's just not my style.

80's arcade games + beer + nightly DJs and (mostly electronic) live music. Pretty fun. I actually don't really like playing the games that much, but I love stepping in and listening to all the clamor. I can hear it now.....

Unlike the previous reviewer, I don't feel any pretentiousness here, just an adorable little "aw" in my heart. L'Astra is almost ridiculously small, and even though the space and atmosphere doesn't scream "gourmet food," the food does, which just makes it all the more precious. Come here on a date, you'll be happy.
