Have you seen when this place was built? RESPECT. Booya.
This place rocks on so many levels. Yeah, it has overpriced baubles and tacky crap, but who doesn't? I found the tacky crap to be quite minimal.
Hard to navigate the perfume section? What, do you have 6 limbs? It is small and concise. What's to mess up here?
The clothes are spectacular. I do agree that it is odd that they don't sell shoes, but again, who cares?
At least stop by the chocolate bar and have a hot cocoa if you can't find *anything* redeeming about this place.
This is my first stop in NYC.

The food no longer brings me to tears. The only thing that brings tears to my eyes is what they did to this place. Stay away. Stay far away.

The food here brought me to tears. I'm not joking. I tried the wine pairing menu with the vegetarian chef's tasting menu. Everything made me smile. The service was outstanding and the wine pairing couldn't have been better. Hats off to the Sommelier and chef. A great place for a special occasion or a random Tuesday when you just feel like being pampered.

However. Dears. If you like seafood, with a side of seafood and garnished with seafood on top? This is the place for you. Its pretty good.
I recommend mussels if you like that sort of thing. 10 bucks and in a heavenly sauce.
If it is nice out - sit outdoors. Watch the people go by and wave your fork at them.
Didn't have the dessert, but there's an interesting tray that comes by and there's something called a "berry bag" - I kid you not.

It was a little more "historic" than I imagined it would be. The sales people were a little pushy, but overall it was a nice experience. I like how it feels like you are at a market or a bazar. Not a ton of care put into window displays are placement it seems. That's kind of unusual and interesting. I normally pay close attention to this kind of marketing and I didn't see much of it. Only near the escalators really.
There's a cafe inside, but I didn't get a chance to try it.
If you like perfume - they have some good stuff here.

Teenage Millionaire
Neighborhoods: Mid-City West, West Hollywood
This a five star hipster t-shirt store. Seriously cool stuff. I mean - where else are you going to get a distressed t-shirt with a mantis on it? That's right. Nowhere.
Now, as far as feeling like a teenage millionaire? I can't vouch for that.
The ordering process is confusing for non-locals. People think they have table service and don't realize they need to walk up to the counter.
The coffee is terrible.
When I was a little girl, I grew up on the Indian reservation and watched syndicated television from Chicago. I was filled with envy over urban life. I dreamed of the day when I would sit in a diner reading my paper, sipping my coffee, eating my eggs and everyone would know my name. Main Street Grill is this kind of place. It takes me back to childhood. Every bite I take clogs my arteries, but it fills my heart with joy.
To me, that's worth any price. I would pay an entrance fee just to listen to the cook sing.

The food is cool, but that's not why I gave the place 5 stars. Its all about the house, cracked dishes, old chairs, and ancient pictures of George W. that do it for me. The place makes me feel patriotic just sitting there.
A great place to be a fly on the wall too. Good conversation around you.

Oyamel
Categories: Mexican, Tapas Bars
Neighborhood: Penn Quarter
I went to Oyamel for a private group dinner and I must admit, the food was pretty good. We had a tapas style fixed menu where several (maybe 8) dishes were brought out and shared by all.
I know someone earlier dissed the chips and salsa, but I thought both were pretty damn amazing - and I'm from California.
If I'm ever in DC again, I'm sure I'll go back.

I would still have Jesse as my chef if it were not for my crazy travel and busy lifestyle that lands me in different locations every week.
I've gifted Jesse's services to friends and have hired him for private events.
Just amazing and lets not even get started on his desserts. All I can say are vegan cookies and chocolate pie. mmmm.
