Thank the Gods there is a new north end restaurant that is not Italian .  This place is great. Authentic fare, nice owners and reasonable prices. I had the tacos which where awesome and a pupusa that was somewhat average. When I go back - likely tomorrow - I am going to try their burritos. We need to support this place!

The appetizers are FIVE STARS... The entrees are good, but not the best.

We were absolutely blown away by the:

- Donut foie gras (trust me.. unreal)
- Beef brisket app

Entrees:
- Go with the Duck... it was the best of the four entrees we ordered.

It's pretty simple... the drinks are great - the food not so much.

Definitely a cool vibe, good music and friendly staff, but the food is average at best.  We order four different tapas and none of them were particularly good.

Loved the drink menu though.

This place got a bad rep out of the opening gates, but it's actually pretty good and worth checking out.

The good stuff:
The small plates are excellent.  The short ribs, grilled brussel sprouts and cheese plate rocked.  The shrimp plate can be skipped.  The wait staff is friendly and the ability to order 3 oz wine allows you to try different varieties you would typically skip.

The bad stuff:
They play terrible terrible music...  This place isn't very popular b/c they have Steve Erkel working the stereo.   I guarantee you that if they throw some massive attack, radiohead, etc. they will get more folks to try it out and talk it up.

Il Panino Express

I have eaten at Il Panino Express about 100 times and I'm finally realizing it's slowly been getting worse.  The lasagna used to be great, now it's average at best.  (Side note:  I can't believe they charge $12 for their lasanga - highway robbery).   They rarely have good pizza slices waiting and everyone there seems grumpy all the time.

I think I'll be migrating to Dino's more often.

Was able to be one of the firsts to discover "Prohibited" the semi-secret bar under Symphony 8.   Simply slide open the semi-secret bookcase entrance and you'll find yourself in a cool, but not pretentious, underground lounge.

The staff was great, the music was loud, but not too loud and overall was just a fun joint.   Secret Tip:  Petron is only $7...  the bartender said they cut the price in half to be cool, but intentionally don't promote it to keep it cool...

Scup's In The Harbour - CLOSED

This place is truly the best hidden gem of Boston.   It's in the most unlikely of locations, but if you can find it I promise it will automatically become one of your favorite spots.  Everything on the specials menu is fresh and good... real good.  The owners of the establishment couldn't be nicer and actually sat down with us and asked us what times would be ideal if we wanted to come back for dinner.   They then provided us driving directions to get us back to Charlestown without having to pay the toll.

You will not find a tourist here, but you'll find plenty of charm and excellent food.  I wish I could give it 6 stars.

I checked out Haru about a month ago and loved it.   The sushi concoctions have a heavy western influence, but are amazing.   I recommend you pony up your wallet, get off the traditional menu and order their specialty rolls.   I believe a few of them are named after Red Sox players.

Bring your wallet and make Haru count.

Ducali Pizzeria & Bar

I live around the corner from Ducali and I couldn't be happier that a solid pizza, bar, hang out type place finally made it's way into that corner of Prince and Commercial.

This spot has gone out of business so many times I was nervous for these guys, but I think they finally cracked the code.

- Remodeled the place with open air seating
- Tall chair / table set up... similar to Jstats
- Solid food at a reasonable price
- Plasmas, good music in the background and friendly bartenders

A group of us spent an Sunday afternoon here the week they opened and had an absolute blast.... Next stop is trying it out on a Thursday.

Marco

Neighborhood: North End

If my pork chops weren't over cooked I would be inclined to give Marco a 5.  Very cool (small) layout with a Mediterranean feel to it.

The real good stuff... Figs wrapped in prosciutto and goat cheese is unreal.  The ravolii with shitake muschrooms and crispy back... also very good.

Whatever you do make sure to get the side of brussel sprouts with crispy bacon...  it will change your opinion of brussel sprouts.

With all of that said... this is not a cheap meal.   If you're getting a bottle of wine be prepared for $75/person.
