I recently stumbled on Red Barn Bakery at the farmers market on July 30, 2010 at Blue Hill Stone Barns. I love blueberries so it was hard to resist buying a warm blueberry galette. I carefully held my galette like a little baby as I traveled by train back to Manhattan and when I arrived home I dug in using a knife and spoon. There was an abundance of delicious blueberries inside accompanied by a perfect crust. Absolute heaven.
Fantastico! The best thin crust pizza I've had in ten years. I had the caprese which was perfectly done. I ate at the bar and had the opportunity to watch the pizza maker up close, he was like an artist and he would periodically dance to the music as he made and kept an eye on the pizza. Can't wait to go back.

Café Grumpy
Category: Coffee & Tea
Neighborhood: Chelsea
Had breakfast (coffee and a muffin) at Cafe Grumpy this week and was not disappointed. Having never been before I had many questions about the coffee and the staff (just great) helped me settle on a coffee made with beans from Guatemala that was ground on the spot. I also chose a cran bran muffin with peaches which was out of my comfort zone which I ended up enjoying.

The Best Chocolate Cake in the World
Categories: Coffee & Tea, Bakeries
Neighborhood: Nolita
Its a catchy name but its far from the best chocolate cake in the world. I don't mind paying a premium price for something but this wasn't cake it was more of a meringue with a very good ganache. The staff were very nice, but the product left me very disappointed.
After seeing Delilah on Throwdown with Bobby Flay, I figured I would try her Mac & Cheese (while on a recent trip to Philly). While the Mac & Cheese was very good, the candied yams were terribly sweet, too sweet to enjoy. In addition, I was unhappy with the value of what I received, a large Mac & Cheese (8oz) with a small candied yams was $14.00 before tax. Too expensive.
The presentation at Sugar Bliss is overwhelming in a good way, however I didn't enjoy the cake part of my chocolate cupcake it tasted too much like Dunkin Hines.
Great hotel nestled into the side of a cliff/mountain, spend the extra few dollars for an unobstructed view of the mountains out back. Great lobby with an enormous fireplace and terrific staff that helped us plan our day.

Neighborhood: West Village
Talking about eating with your eyes, I paid a visit to Popbar earlier this afternoon and was in heaven. The way the sorbet and gelato are displayed is genius and I felt like a kid in a candy store. The staff were terrific and helped me pick a flavor as everything looked so good. Ultimately I went with the peach sorbet. I didn't add any toppings as I wanted the product in its purest form. The peach sorbet didn't disappoint, it was fresh and bursting with flavor and broke cleanly with each bite. I look forward to going back very soon.

Rosa Mexicano
Category: Mexican
Neighborhood: Upper West Side
Rosa Mexicano makes a terrific frozen pomegranate margarita, however their guacamole is not that all its hyped up to be. The table-side preparation is nice, but their guac lacks the punch I am looking for.

Cafe Viva

Neighborhood: Manhattan Valley
Yes, the place is small and they have interesting pies with slices that aren't the largest in Manhattan, however they have some of the best pene ala vodka I have ever had.
