The Jo-Ann I'm used to is fabrics.  Just fabrics.  So unless I was picking out a fabric to make my dog a sweater, I didn't go.  But this Jo-Ann's! It has crafts! Not just a little bit of crafts but enough to allllmmooosst make me stop going to Michael's all together because this place is so close and has everything I need!  I just dropped $40 on Jolees scrapbooking decals because they were all 30% off. So good.

K I sound like a crazy old woman now, but this place is great. I'm glad I discovered it!

I love this pizza...when it's good.  This place is so inconsistent with it's pizza that I've finally (sadly...so so sadly) told myself I have to stop going here.  Half the time the pizza is great and I could scarf down the whole thing, easy.  The  other half of the time it's just awful.  The crust can get incredibly burnt and charred. To the point where all I taste is burnt crust.  The last time we ordered Modern to go and when we got home and opened the box I was appalled.  The crust didn't even look like it was cooked all the way through and our toppings had all completely slid to one side of the pizza from when they put in the box. Meaning half of the pizza was literally just uncooked crust with nothing on it. If we had opened the box at the restaurant it would have been sent back with a "What the hell are you trying to serve us?" look. Lucky for them they put a piece of tape to close the box so you aren't tempted to check it before you pay! This was my last time flipping a coin and hoping for the good Modern instead of the bad.
I go the extra block to Amattos. It's not omg amazing but I've never gotten anything but tasty from there. And it's cheaper!

When I'm in this store I feel like I'm shopping at Wal-Mart on the day after Thanksgiving.  Aisles are way too tight and the arrangement of the food didn't seem to flow with me very much. It's always so effing crowded and the produce wasn't very fresh. I went here once because it's the closest grocery store and I never went back. I now drive the extra 1.5 miles and go to Shaws. I suggest you do the same!

I was craving Chinese Food and, being new to this city, I wanted to make sure i got the best the first time! I did too many hours of research (sad, I know) and this place had consistently high reviews.  Everything we ordered was freaking amazing (we just got take out, didn't eat in) and you get crazy big serving sizes so you better be ok with sharing!

Not only was the food yum in my mouth, while we were waiting for it at the restaurant there was a serious Cougar there with her husband who was non-stop hitting on the cute waiter.  I mean like she was basically asking him to bang on the floor right then and there. I was laughing so hard when I left that place, I will never forget her. And I will keep going back and hoping that she's there for my entertainment!

I hate to do this, but some things just have to be said!
I'll start with a little bit of background: I look like a 17 year old but I am actually muuuch older than that, and I think this is the reason why I always get shotty service at amazing restaurants, and it's getting a little old, dammit!

My husband and I went here for our FIVE YEAR anniversary.  We've just moved to New Haven and I thought that there couldn't be any place better than 'New Haven's Finest' for our big night.  I left this place saying multiple times "this place just ruined our anniversary" and I almost cried on the drive home.

Our waiter pretty much forgot about us.  The restaurant wasn't too busy and wasn't too empty and he constantly waited on the table right next to us without ever checking on our table.  I couldn't tell you his name because he never introduced himself! He never gave us our bread and we ended up getting it in the middle of our meal when a manager or somebody realized we had none.  When we were finished with our dessert he cleared up the table but NEVER came back to give us our check. He gave the table next to us their check but never ours. So that was cool. After 20 minutes of us sitting at a completely empty table my husband had to get up and ask another waitress if we could please have our check.

This is a very upscale restaurant and I don't care what the waiters think of me or my age but MY $200 CHECK IS AS GOOD AS ANYBODY ELSE'S $200! So give me the same great service, I mean c'mon! This place gets 2 stars from me instead of 1 because yes, the food is freaking great. But I promise I will never come back because no matter how good the food was at the time, all I remember is how horrible this place made me feel on...did I say this already?... OUR FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

I've been through this same scenario so many times my husband and I are seriously considering buying business cards that say "You got a crappy tip because you gave us crappy service, not because we're 'young'."  But since my husband is such a good guy this d-bag got a normal tip anyways, and ruined my night on top of it. I will never be back and I'm sorry for that.

Ranting over. I'll go get plastic surgery now to look like I'm 70 years old, so maybe then I'll get some respect!

On a random side note I would like to give props to the woman at the drive-thru windows at the McDonald's on Dixwell and Putnum. She always gives me the best customer service from any food place I've ever been to! Maybe Union League Cafe could go take some notes!

I've been trying to find a great Mexican place in New Haven and this is the best I've found so far.  The chips and salsa were delicious (mine were not at all 'stale' like some mentioned?) and everything on my plate was seasoned and spiced to Mexican perfection! I ordered the shredded beef tacos and yummy in my tummy for sure! Our service was perfect and she even warned us when we came in that we had 3 minutes till happy hour was over so we should get at least one drink order in fast! The place is kind of small so you may have to wait.  I didn't think it was as hole-in-the-wall/dingy seeming as many have said, but maybe that's just what I'm used to coming from Arizona. But this food is great and I'll be back for sure!

This is what I have told all of my friends about this "Mexican" restaurant:
This place is serving you Taco Bell at inflated prices in a restaurant setting.  Maybe I'm spoiled because I came from Tucson, AZ...but this is not Mexican food.  My husband ordered a chimichanga and nothing in it was seasoned almost at all! And on the menu it said had cheese on top...they poured like a vat of NACHO CHEESE on it! Like Taco Bell nacho cheese. So gross.  And I ordered a chicken quesadilla. Again there was no seasoning, no spice, it was just blah. I thought a quesadilla would be can't-miss kind of food but this place found a way to fail.
The only reason this restaurant gets 2 stars instead of one is because the patio outside is a great seating area, and the chips and salsa were endless. Unless you're going to Quinnipiac and have no other place to eat, do not go out of way to drive here.  Not worth it!

Awful awful awful! My friends and I went here freshman year (so 4 years ago?) with one of those coupons you get in those coupon booklets at the beginning of the year.  The people there refused to take them, even though that was the only reason we went. My friend had to return her shake 2 times to be made right, and it still wasn't right when she got it back the 3rd time.  We paid our overpriced bill and never returned....

Fast-forward 4 years later.  Me and my husband go here because he just really wants a normal burger and we're around the University area.  We sit down to an empty restaurant (literally only 2 tables have people at them).  10 minutes later the waiter comes to get our drink order. We get our drinks and he never came back to take our food order. Never! He looked at us multiple times and continued to talk to the other waitress for about 20 minutes.  We left $2 on the table for our drinks and walked out.  I remembered why I had sworn off this place 4 years ago!
The service here is awful.  I think the only reason it's still in business is because when tourists walk by they see a restaurant they know and go in.  This place should be shut down immediately. There are so many better choices on University, go to Gentle Ben's, Frog, or the Dubliner if you just want a burger and fries!

Every other Mexican restaurant I eat at is compared to El Charro. So far none have even come close to the tastiness of this place.  Is it annoying to find parking? Yup. Are you going to wait a stupidly long time for a table? Yup.  Could you be seated in an awkward room that feels like a closed in porch? Yup.  But is it worth it for the amazing Mexican food you are about to it? You bet!  I have had interesting experiences at this place but the bottom line is this: The food is freaking amazing and you will be glad you have it in your tummy.  I have had issues with my drink orders as others have mentioned (I swear my margarita had zero amounts of alcohol in it) so just order a bottled beer and you'll survive.  I don't go to restaurants for the drinks, I go for the food. And this place is the best Mexican I will ever eat. Get something with the beef that's been slow cooked and dried all day, I forget what they call it but it's so so good!

This place is just perfect! I've had so many different dishes here and every single one is just amazing.  It's great for romantic occasions and for celebrations.  I've been here with my husband for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, and birthday and graduation dinners.  It's great for a table for two or 12! Everybody will be able to find something they love.  And the views!!! Oh my gosh you cannot beat these views, especially during a Tucson sunset or watching the twinkling city lights through the huge windows.
Make sure you have reservations on weekend dinner hours! Yum Yum! ORDER THE POPE'S PILLOW FOR DESSERT! I don't care how full you are after dinner, you will be able to eat this till you're licking the plate clean. mmmm makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
