Vegans, vegetarians, sustainable individuals DO NOT come here!

Everybody raves about their Tri-Tip sandwich. After receiving all of our food in plastic, un-recyclable plates silverware, I realized how wrong public opinion can be. The tri-tip beef lacking flavor, taken from a poor cut of tough beef is stuffed between 2 generic white bun. It leaves much to be desired.

Acia smoothie is expensive $4.75 each. I feel like I am in a college party after being served with plastic red cups. The smoothie tastes like watered down apple sauce.

Vegetarian bowl is oily, lacks protein. Not an ideal place for vegans.

Very $$$$ expensive for such a tragedy of a meal. $30 for lunch. I should've gone to Udupi Palace.

Shattuck cinema's historical attraction is evident in its decor on the ceiling, columns mixing the new and old style of architecture.

Shattuck Cinemas also does promotional sneak previews of upcoming movies for free (given a ticket and a long line). What a great way to raise awareness on activism issues.

The seats here are really comfortable. My favorite theater in Berkeley. Some theaters are rather cozy and small.

Power to the Peaceful Festival

Not even the foggiest of SF weather will put a damper on a true peaceful city. "Power to the Peaceful" largely organized by Michael Franti & the Spearheads invited all activists, artists, musicians, cooks, kids, hippies, yogis to the Speedway meadow for an energy-charged afternoon of music, smoke, food and fun.

Booths ranging from "Food not Bombs", "Truth about 9/11", "Revolution: Communism" bring all aspects of a peaceful society into one festival. The crowds were raising their hands together to one message: We belong in one family!

One Love. One Festival. Keep the peace alive!

A Taste of Africa

"Taste of Africa" invites its patrons right into the heart of African kitchen. The aroma of garlic black-eyed peas, friend plantains, ginger lemonade is all too enticing to pass up.

My favorite, friendly, man with dread working behind the counter is a one-man restaurant. He cuts, stirs, serves, talks, smiles all the time.

Very spicy. Very authentic. I highly recommend the vegetarian combo plate. The chicken is melting off the bone too.

Hostelling International - Downtown San Diego

Affordable communal housing in downtown San Diego accessible to most public transportation. Good location to buy grocery at Ralph's, friendly staff members to ask questions, excellent resources and group activities in the summer. Private twin beds are also available at around $60/night.

Hosteling International lives up to its mission of serving affordable housing to all travelers. Many European travelers go through here. The age is towards the young end. Most of them looking for a good time, some seeking the nightlife. No drinking, smoking in the hotel. Quiet hours after 11pm.

Very clean in all 3 floors. Nice linen. Good area to read. The internet here is spotty. Free for laptops but charge for computer usage.

Good luck finding this place off the highway. It is tucked way back after many one-way streets. Centry Theatres is located on the shopping mall plaza.

This theatre is cold, smelly and mega-corporation.

Lacks character. Screens are small. Full of high school teenagers. I would avoid this place if I can.

What a peaceful stroll up the rolling Marin headlands. On a clear day I can see Kent Lake and nearby organic farmers. Beware of the poison ivy looming around late summer to early fall.

Most parts of the hike has cell phone reception. Be aware of horse riders along the way and their droppings!

I really enjoy a sunny morning in this peaceful and lazy park.

Wholesome new age food store that carries plenty of organic produce, goods. Ideal for vegans/vegetarians. If you are hungry, I recommend their salad bar, sandwich, pizza section; you will not be let down. Including gluten-free pizza, raw almond pate, quinoa, tofu, etc.

One complaint. No compost in the dinning area. What hypocracy?

On the scenic drive north of San Diego pass Torrey Pines reserve is this vegan/vegetarian friendly burrito joint. Upon entering its artistically painted doorway, the aroma of homemade grilled meats and vegetables entices my taste bud.

I had a vegetarian burrito. It was warm and savory. I really enjoyed their grilled plantains in my burrito, something sweet to balance the burrito.

hippies burrito joint that makes their own salsa and carries Bragg's amino acids.

My dream coffee house.

The selection of mainstream to special interest magazine selection is a huge plus. Any coffeehouse with "Adbuster" and "The New Yorker" gets a plus in my book.

I adore their tea selection. The tea can be served in a refillable pot which makes it convenient for group setting. The chai latte is creamy and spicy, how yum!

I like the outdoor seating- especially if you can get food from Hazel's kitchen. I can create new flavors- keemun tea plus vegetarian quesadilla.
