Taco Lucha

For Manhattan, KS, this place is the bomb diggity. Their El Mexicano Taco is my favorite thus far. I tried The Beast Burrito last night, of which the main meat is chorizo and it was delicious!! I can't wait to try everything else on the menu!

The ambiance of this place is really soothing and chill, which I like. And the owner is of course, the same person who owns So Long and he is always friendly and funny.

If this place were in southern California, I would probably give is 4 stars, but because the selection in Kansas is a bit on the slim side, I definitely can give it 5 stars as it's now one of my most favorite restaurants to eat at here! =)

Hunam Chinese Restaurant

When I want my fix of "fake" Chinese food, this is the first place that I think of. I would be weary of coming here on odd hours that are off from lunch/dinner (i.e. 3 pm). And that's really just b/c since the food just doesn't move out of the buffet areas very fast since we're in a small town. It can lose it's freshness after a few hours. But if you come around lunch or dinner, the food is usually fresh and yummy. :) They also have ice cream and Mongolian BBQ here too on top of their Chinese food buffet.

What I had here tonight though was much better than any of that. I still can't believe that they have hotpot here. As far as I know, it's the only place in town that has hotpot. And it's not bad at all for Kansas. An explanation for people that have never had hotpot before.... basically they bring out a large flat pot that has a soup base in it (careful, even the mild is pretty spicy for you non-spicy food people). They put it on top of a mini cooker so that it's on heat. You order what type of meat, noodles and veggies you want and add it to the boiling hotpot, let it cook, then voila, a meal is ready! You can also order different sauces to dip your meat into. We had the peanut sauce tonight which was pretty good. The meat always comes thinly sliced (like all hotpot meats should), so I would order at least one plate per person in terms of meat.

Will definitely visit again for some more hotpot. :)

Korean Garden

This is definitely the BEST and most authentic Korean restaurant you will find around this area. I've been to a few of the other Korean restaurants and none of them really compare to this place. I've had their bibimbap and seafood soon dubu and it's super yummy. Next time I go back, the kalbi is next on the list!

Prices are definitely a little higher than normal (I'm comparing to Southern California), but when you are in an area that just doesn't have that demand for ethnic food, I'll pay the extra few dollars for the meal.

Orange Sky Yoga

I absolutely looooove yoga. I love the combination of peace + stretches and not to mention, a great workout! Jessa Baxter Voos, the owner and avid teacher of this studio is really great. She's a perfect balance of energy and peace. For me, the instructor is crucial to how I feel about a yoga class. She pays attention to all of her students in class and does her best to help you out, even when you have no idea what you are doing! I have not tried classes with other teachers here because I'm a senior vet student and have to plan my life around vet school. But I have heard nothing but good things!

For me, the "gentle flow" class is PERFECT. It has the right amount of intensity and poses that are challenging enough for me. Saturday morning sun salutes is really great class too. Maybe once I am able to go more frequently I can start trying the harder classes, but for now I'll keep going to as many gentle flow classes as possible! :)

Definitely lived up to its hype. We ordered pizza with sweet Italian sausage, garlic spinach and olives. I think it's a great combo and gives the pizza so much flavor it punches you in the face! I love that they don't use black olives like most pizza places do. They use the greeeeeen olives and it really gives the pizza a little extra something!

Pine and Bamboo Garden

I have to say that I was SHELL SHOCKED when I saw the dim sum at this restaurant. REAL dim sum in Kansas City, MO?! I was infinitely happy. The dim sum here is legit! All of my favorites were present and actually tasted right. I've been to Bo Ling's in Kansas City in a desperate search for dim sum and it's OK - but not what I'm used to (I'm from socal). Bo Ling's is definitely subpar compared to dim sum here as far as I'm concerned.

Pine and Bamboo Garden even has the spicy chili oil on the table and ready to go. I posted a bunch of pictures of most of the stuff we ordered. I'm Korean so I don't know the real names of everything in Chinese. I usually just point and say "that one!" for my lack of Chinese. So take a look at the photos if you want an idea of what it looks like. :)

Mimi's Hair Salon

This is an awesome place to come if you need a good hair cut for a good price! I have to say the customer service here is A++! It's better than the service I've had at more "expensive" salons where you pay a ton of money for not very much. I would definitely opt for Mimi's instead!

Today I had my cut done by Jose who was excellent! He gave me a great hair cut that I love! He is also extremely funny and will keep you entertained. I paid $30 for my hair cut which came with styling/drying. I think if you don't want it to be styled/dried then you pay $20 for the cut.

When I move back from Kansas I will definitely be visiting this place again!

The Taj Kabob & Curry

Sorry to say, this place is not very impressive in terms of taste. I ordered the most basic of Indian restaurant staples: Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Korma, Garlic Naan, and Lamb Samosa. Both of the Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma were over-salted and under flavored. I was really surprised how bad it was because I've eaten at many different Indian restaurants and never had eaten at once with such little flavor.

Portion wise, it was fine. Not small like some of the other reviewers mentioned. Most Indian restaurants do not give you globs and globs of food, so if you are used to eating at these places, portion wise is very much similar in comparison to other Indian restaurants.

I ordered it to-go, so not sure how things are here service wise, but it really wouldn't have changed by rating because the food was not very good!

Empress Seafood Restaurant

This rating is based solely on their dim sum. One word to sum it all up: AWFUL. I honestly don't even know how they got these awards for top dim sum and blah blah blah. They didn't even get the basics right. The har gow had a really weird aftertaste associated with it. Their BBQ pork buns had very little flavor and it was also on the dry side.. Their siu mai was also off-color and tasted really funky. The rice in the lotus leaf wasn't even mixed in well with the sauce inside. It was pretty much like eating plain rice by itself. Having a little bit of meat in there added some flavor, but it didn't help much. I was so disappointed that one of my favorite things to eat was SO incredibly disgusting at this restaurant. And to top it all off, they don't even have their dim sum in carts. The only thing that was decent was their roasted duck, but that's not enough to bring me back here for dim sum again!

I never knew that dessert could be SO GOOD! To be honest, I don't even like dessert to begin with. I'm not the type to order dessert after a meal, but this place has some really unique and delicious desserts. We ordered the Raspberry Grilled Cheese which is made up of raspberries, brie cheese, agave, and toasted almonds on a flaky croissant. I know what you're thinking.. that raspberry with grilled cheese sounds really funky - trust me, you won't regret ordering it! For my drink I had the Cafe Vienna - coffee, cream and chocolate, absolutely delicious. I'm definitely coming back here for more dessert!
