Have been twice now and enjoyed both meals here. The other night I had the prosciutto and fruit to start. Delicious, but the fruit component was just a few fine slices of persimmons... I was imagining more sweetness with the salt. For my entree I had the squid ink pasta with sea urchin. Also tasty, though I found the portion a tad light. Fortunately my dining companions over ordered, so I stole bites of everyone else's meal to fill me up. Service was excellent, my water glass was always filled to the brim and our waiter was on point the entire evening.

I've had consistently good meals and service here. Never knock your socks off amazing, but for a work lunch of a hearty dinner you can't go wrong. The lunch menu is fairly heavy, with comfort food items like fried chicken and the burger. However there are healthier options too, today I had the salmon which was delicious and light. The space has a nice old-timey feel, perfect for the financial district and it's associated banking crowd.

I grew up in typical Jewish fashion going regularly (usually Sunday nights) to the local Chinese restaurant with my family. There were two food items that we ordered religiously: hot and sour soup and peking duck. While I've been able to find some decent hot and sour soup in SF, the peking duck from my childhood has proved elusive.

Some restaurants offer it in a dim sum style, which means a roughly chopped duck (including bones) and soft, thick, buns to wrap it in. The duck I've been looking for was delicately shaved and you wrapped the sliced meat/skin in a thin rice pancake. Thanks to Hakkasan if you're willing to pony up $88, you can now get this in the City. Of course, anywhere else it would probably cost about half that... but the lengths I'll go for comfort food are vast. Though the loud music and expense account clientele mean this place won't be for everyone, the food is tasty, beautifully presented, and service is grand.

We did the Temescal Canyon trail loop around the park. It was about 3 miles or so with some serious incline. Super dry right now, but the views of Malibu from the top are totally breathtaking. It's damn hot so bring a bottle of water, but not so grueling that you'll need a camelback, boots, or anything like that. Really fun and easy hiking destination in the Palisades.

Walking in you see a fairly plain looking Italian joint, however don't judge this book by its cover, they really do crush it. The warm octopus salad was an excellent Mediterranean starter and the sea salt branzino was a real winner as well. Tender, perfectly cooked fish with a slightly briny taste. Finally to finish the meal, I ordered the chocolate budino... similar to a chocolate mousse and a chocolate lover's dream. The sommelier, Rory helped us pick an excellent Italian Pinot Grigio (Venica) that our entire table raved about. Good times and a great meal!

Service is excellent. The bed super comfy. The room quiet as can be. The location while convenient is next to a major highway, so it's not really a tranquil spot. The windows directly facing the highway seem to be used primarily in the hallways, so they've tried to minimize the impact of such a weird location on their guests. If you want a more tranquil spot you can try the significantly more expensive Rosewood, but beware they have a ridiculous 2 day weekend minimum. This Four Seasons is perfectly good hotel for a business trip, but for a quiet getaway I'd probably go elsewhere.

Pretty much as you'd expect from a St. Regis. Overall decent service, reliable (on time) high quality room service, clean and well appointed rooms. My standard room (with two full size beds) was quite small and seemed more fitting for a hotel in Manhattan, not the mountains. Another minor annoyance... my iPhone 5s charger broke and they didn't have a power cable they could loan me (though I was able to leave my phone to charge with the front desk)... I couldn't have been the first customer with this need. Bottom line: more or less the quality blue chip experience you expect from a St. Regis, but won't blow your socks off.

Neat little coffee bar. Their use of an oddly shaped and tiny space is quite creative and works. Definitely aiming for the coffee snob crowd, something I'm aspiring to be (just started roasting my own beans!). I had a pleasant tasting macchiato and will stop in again next time I'm in the hood. They also had a good looking plate of pastries, but this place is mostly about the bean.

Chris was a fantastic guide. Very patient, chill, and knowledgable. None of us were salmon fishing experts, but he took us to a great spot and we hit our limit within a few hours. His boat was immaculate and all his equipment was in great shape too. While we were busy reeling them in, Chris cleaned and gutted all our fish so they were ready to take home at the end of the day. Whether it's harvesting sock eye and king salmon, or fighting a giant sturgeon for hours on end, Chris is ready to handle it. Definitely recommend checking out the Fraser river with these guys when it's salmon season, it was an awesome fishing experience!

In my 14 years in the Bay Area, perhaps shockingly, I've been to The Independent exactly once... last Friday for the Death Cab show. The venue is fairly basic, but fans won't be disappointed - it's smallish (maybe a capacity of 300?) so everyone (tall enough to see through the crowd) gets a decent view. There wasn't any seating so expect to be on your feet for a few hours, but the bar is speedy and the bartenders are friendly too (a couple drinks helps with the sore feet :). If you see a big name act here, it's a pretty special experience. In fact, when we were leaving there were people camped outside waiting for the Killers show, which wasn't until the next evening (some 22 hrs later)... totally insane!
