$16.95 for an oil change???

I came to Redwood City after meeting up a friend in San Mateo and I did not make an appointment to the shop I go to sometimes. When I got to the other shop they were overwhelmed with service jobs so I had to look for another place to get my oil changed. I would do it myself, but I've been low on time doing it myself. So I drove around and I found Performance Auto Repair.

It's a small operation, but the mechanic there is really nice. He checked my air filter and fluids, something I didn't ask for. The whole change took about 10-15 mins.

If you are in the area and want a fast and quick change come by. Yes they don't use top notch oil filters and oil, but hopefully you change your oil frequently enough that it shouldn't matter to you or your engine. Synthetic would be nice, but you get what you pay for. Enough said.

I recently got interested in the whole comedy scene once again. What brought me back was a show on Memorial Day that hoboFish participated in. They were one of five different acts that night and the most entertaining group that I've seen in a while.

HoboFish first starts off their performance by pulling a word from the audience and then uses that word in a scene and throughout the performance will try and bring the word back come full circle. Other than that opening, the rest of their performance is just nonstop hilarious and wacky comedy. I'm not too sure if they will make any changes to their performance (ie. singalongs, role playing or a props game )

I had the privilege of checking out another one of their shows last night and I can say I had a wonderful experience that night. They performed with one other group and that group too was amazing. The other group performed sketch comedy, like SNL and so it is a little different from improv, but nonetheless funny as well.

If you get the chance, catch them if you can. Be sure to check out their website at http://www.hobofishimp... for future performances you won't be disappointed. By tickets as soon as you can also because they often sell out in the small theaters that they perform in.

I love Japanese food, but for $10.50 for a choice of two small dishes, no thank you. I came here with several friends and we ordered a bunch of different dishes. I can truly say that if you are hungry, the portions here will not fill you up and in terms of texture and taste I feel that it lacks in those areas. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the decor and the location of the restaurant, but the flavors and texture just didn't hit home for me. There were a couple of dishes that I thought were going to be savory, ended up being bland and some even were a bit mushy for me. The only two dishes that I enjoyed were the butterfish and sukiyaki. The soft and smooth fish just melts in your mouth and the sukiyaki was sweet enough to give balance to plain rice. In addition to what was stated, when I ordered my meal, I was never offered the tea or soda that was included in the meal, kind of disappointed because of that but not a big deal.

Overall, the restaurant is not bad, but I feel it can do a lot better. I've had my share of Japanese food and hopefully on my next visit if I'm ever around will be much better.

Recommended Dish:
- Butter Shoyu White Fish
- Sukiyaki
(other dishes are displayed in the photo section with some comments)

The Best Almond Flavored Pearl Milk Tea!!!

I've been coming to Wonderful Foods for many many years and I can still say that it is my favorite place to get tapioca (boba) drinks. I'm not 100% sure, but this place was one of the first or could of been the first store to have brought boba to San Francisco. Once I tasted it for the first time, I was hooked ever since. The original location use to be diagonally across the street, but due to some issues with a certain political person Wonderful Foods was forced to move. Perhaps the move was for the better because it now looks a lot more cleaner and the prices hasn't changed much. Good job Wonderful Foods for the great boba drinks, keep up the good work.

Fast and Friendly!!!

Wow, Clean Air Smog Check was the place to go. I took my car in to get it's smog check and it took literally less than 20mins to get it done. Just called in to see if it was a good time and drove down and got it done in no time. Technicians are friendly and easy to talk to. One technician even asked me if I wanted a chicken nugget. Now I call that customer service. Anyhow, long story made short, I passed and I can now drive my car for another two years before I can come back here again. Not sure when the best time of day to come in is, but I went towards the afternoon and there was no waiting at all.

Took my car here to get a routine maintenance and tune-up and I can truly say that the owner was honest and did not charge me for anything I did not need. If you want to get quality service, I recommend Automotive Technicians. It's located in the TL, near the Financial District, so you can drop your car off to get some work done and return at the end of the day to retreive your car depending on the amount of work needed.

Worst service ever!!!

I haven't experienced bad service in a long long time, but boy did this experience start off the year with bad service #1. Anyhow, I've worked in the restaurant industry and so when it comes to service I've been very patient because I know what servers have to go through in order for a patron to be served at the table. So since this restaurant opened not too long ago I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt. I'll give you a play by play on how things developed that night.

First off five friends, including myself, sat down to eat. There was one other table that was finishing up in the back. We got our menus and the owner/server asked us if we wanted to drink something, we said water and we were about to ask a question, and in mid-question he bolted to the back. We all looked at each other and thought, "did that just happen?" We shrugged it off. After about 10 minutes after we ordered, I  wondered where was the banchan (side dishes). Usually, at all the Korean places I've been to it is served right after you order. I noticed that the female cook in the back was cooking our order at the same time she put together the banchan. The server/owner that took our order just watched her like a boss would do at your cubicle and did not help. It was not until the food was finished being prepared did he bring it out. I thought to myself was he trying to cut on costs and have us starve until the main meal.

When our food was finally ready the soon dubu (tofu soup) came out first and everyone that ordered one got theirs, but where were the eggs? The eggs were not even on the table, we had to ask for them and when we got them they were ice cold. By the time the eggs were brought to the table they did not even cook in the soup, my egg was still raw and the  temperature of the soon dubu was only luke warm now. We immediately got the hot sizzling meats after the eggs, but we ended up getting three bulgogis and we had ordered 1 bulgogi, 2 kalbis, and 1 spicy marinated pork bulgogi. We looked at the meats and noticed this order is all screwed up (there's no one else in the restaurant). Apparently the guy kept looking at his notepad and was confused, he couldn't read his own handwriting. After 15 more mins our correct orders were delivered, finally.

A couple more pet peeves about this place was that the server did not refill water until asked, instead he was at the back table with another customer sitting and talking. He had total disregard for his customers, us! So we sat there with empty cups for a majority of the meal. To top it off our banchan had not been refilled or he didn't ask if we wanted any more.

Overall, this place is definitely not a place I will be back to. The place is brand new and is super clean, but I guarantee if this is the type of service that people get, than it will continue to stay clean and that's it. I've included pictures of the food, but they are not good in my opinion, despite everything that happened. I say if you want good korean food, go to Todam Tofu House on El Camino which is about 1/4 mile away. That place is always packed and there's only two workers out in the dining hall. They take orders, bus tables, run food out to the tables, and give out checks when finished.

Hands down best ice cream in SF!!!

Yes there are tons of places that make home-made ice cream, but for some reason, Mitchell's has been cranking out good tasty flavors for over 50+ years and counting. If you don't take my word for it, take the words of all the people that are waiting outside for their opportunity to get some sweet goodness.

Tons of flavors are offered here in addition to their selection of sorbets. From month to month there are flavors that rotate as "Flavor of the Month" Sometimes these flavors are seasonal depending on the time of year you go and sometimes they are just unique flavors that can only stay on for so long because they need to keep making the other goodness. Anyhow, grab some friends and wait in line together. If you want to sample flavors, Mitchell's is kind enough to assist you in that.

My Favorite Cafe

My Favorite Cafe is my favorite cafe!

When I'm hungry and when it's late at night, this is my top choice of places of going to get some snacks and desserts. Probably the only time I come here is when I am hanging out with my Asian friends, but other than that I'm rarely here. This place offers affordable snacks and desserts and a place to just talk and play card games or what not.

Yes, why do I think this is the best in the city, it's because the variety of things you can get here is probably greater here than other places. I mean yes other places have good variety, but this is the only place that has good variety and tastes good as well. The only thing that sucks about this place is it's location. It's located all the way out in the Richmond District where there is no parking whatsoever. Yes you can drive around and get lucky, but if not, try walking 3-5 blocks. What sucks even more is that once you get to the front door of the cafe, some car leaves right in front of the place.

Anyhow, my definite top choice in late night cafes is My Favorite Cafe hands down.  My favorite selections are posted in the picture section, but my recommendations are as follows:

- Peanut Butter French Toast
- Mixed Fruit in honey dew juice with sago
- Mango Madness
- Strawberry Madness
- Instant noodles with fried egg and spam
- Soy sauce chicken wings

All you can eat pizza Mondays!!!

Wow! Mondays are a good day to come here when you're really hungry and you want to make good use of your money. If you're down for some pizza $10.95 will get you satisfied. The "Neighborhood Night" allows you to get all you can eat pizza and salad for just half the cost of ordering an XL pizza at any other joint.

Great place to eat out with some buddies and best yet, you don't have to argue with each other on what to have for toppings. Everyone can be satisfied with all veggie pizzas, to all meat pizzas. I personally like every single pizza that comes out. Although, when I see a veggie pizza I hesitate because I don't want to fill up on veggies when I can on the meaty ones. Sometimes I give in though to the temptation because the veggie ones look the most colorful... and you know what they're actually really good and flavorful, but I want MEAT!

Other than that the pizza is not fantastic, but on a Monday night it's well worth it. The crust and cheese is what it's all about when it comes to pizza and I feel like the crust just have the texture I would like, but to each their own.

Slices are cut small on Monday nights (my pics you can check out) , but at least you can try all different types of toppings and different combinations of pizza.
