Here's what I eat at parisi:

Peppers and Eggs w/ Smoked Mozzerella
Turkey w Swiss, Lettuce, Tomato, Hot Peppers, Mayo
Eggplant Parm on Semolina (once in a blue moon)

All of these sandwiches are under $10 and can feed you for both lunch and dinner. The sandwiches are not fancy schmancy, just the best damn italian sub in the area.

Give it a try.

Xi'an Famous Foods

Cheap cheap cheap. Unfortunately, in Manhattan cheap means no seating :( . In the cold winter, I'd much rather be eating my Xi'an there rather than bringing it back to the office.

I took a bunch of colleagues from North Carolina to Xi'an as an example of amazing food you'll only find in New York. There was a film crew from "Eat out New York" in there (that's actually the name of the show). They took up half of the tiny space around the counter.

It's the same great lamb burger and cold skin noodles. I went last week and I'm going again tomorrow. If you want to sit, go to the flushing location.

Eggplant over Green Beans is probably one of my favorite vegetarian dishes. I think Gobo might execute this dish a little better, but Wild Ginger tastes fresh and good.

I went with a friend on Friday night and it was not too hard to get a table at 9:00. The service was pretty prompt and polite. Food was well executed. It's a solid choice that wont disappoint, but It's more a neighborhood casual place than a gastro-destination.

There's something immensely exciting about trekking out to flushing to a basement food court to taste food I've never tasted.

Forget everything you think you know about chinese food. Western chinese food more middle eastern food than chinese... but there are noodles. It's fantastic. I tried the cold noodles, and the lamb burger as well as hot beef noodles. Everything had this spicy middle eastern flavor to it. It reminds me a little bit of Nyonya food which is a combination of chinese and malay cooking.

It's obvious the owner is really proud of his food and excited for you to try and like it. Li'an is a great new addition to the food-type rotation and Im excited for the new location on East Broadway in Manhattan.

Little Branch

My mind wasn't blown by Little Branch, just left comfortably numb.

The bouncer last wednesday night gave us a hard time. Maybe it's because we were three guys. Or maybe because we were three guys having trouble walking straight after a champagne filled rockefeller center tree lighting christmas party-fest. Luckily I can think on my feet and told him we were with the 3 brazilian girls who went in a few minutes ago (we werent). He let us in.

The three sips I had of my drink before leaving indicated two things:

1. The bartenders can make a serious whisky drink
2. I shouldn't have been drinking any more.

We managed to snag a booth with the brazilians and realized they were not that cute (veuve goggles?), and either completely uninterested in us, or completely uninteresting.

Overall I liked the vibe of Little Branch, but if you're looking for an underground speakeasy, PDT does it better, and if you're looking for a larger place with good cocktails, Pegu club does that better.

After doing lots of research, both on yelp and elsewhere online, I came to the conclusion that people were mostly really happy with Panaqua and not very happy with other dive places in New York. The main concern I heard is that the equipment is overpriced. I'm just starting to scuba dive, so I was cool with paying extra for the guarantee of good equipment. I even got a discount on gear because I was taking a class. They also let you exchange if it doesnt work out. The instruction and facilities were great. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Yelp Elite Event @ MEGU

If I could, I would live there. Top notch. MEGU's prices are a little steep for every day dining. Im saving my next trip back for a special occasion. Kobe beef croquettes were a huge highlight and the almost infinite sushi was just the right size for one bite in my mouth. I hadn't yet heard of MEGU and may not have found it. However, I'll be back.

Welcome to the thrive lunch rotation Acquedolci.

Sandwiches are awesome and only a little bit more than Parisi. They also have pasta, and antipasto. I think this is one of the only times everyone from the office got food together. I got the chicken cutlet with Spinach and Fontina that Caitlin M. had and it was awesome.

Usually I breeze through little italy on the way to lunch at Parisi, Cafe Habana or Pinche , but with friendly staff and great food options, I'm going back to Acquedolci and soon.

Sau Voi

Over the past year I've put a lot of Banh in Mi. I'd rate Sau Voi Corp in 2nd place. That's either 1st runner up or 1st loser depending on if you're a glass half full or half empty person. I really like Saigon Banh Mi (Jewelry shop) but the CD shop / convenience store has a different feel. There wasn't a huge line and the ladies making the banh mi are really nice.

One suggestion for Sau Voi would be to number their menu. My vietnamese pronunciation rocks but my colleagues were struggling with how to order their sandwiches.

There was a line of about 15 people in front of me, rain around me of about 1 gallon per square ft per minute. When I got to the front, there were 20 people behind me, 10 gallons per square ft per minute of rain and my suit was soaked through.

The guy looked at me and said "Wow, you're really wet" - to which I replied "I heard your food was good". He smiled and handed over my combo plate of drunken food from heaven. I ate 1/4 of it waiting for the subway, another 1/2 when I got home, and the final 1/4 for breakfast.

This is the best value street cart in new york.
