Kyle's Auto Tags & Insurance

Category: Notaries

5 star rating

If you ask around here as to where to go for tags and such, 90%* would say, go to Wiggins.  I did and I got the type of service as my old DMV in Delaware; nothing to write home about.

Kyle's the type of place you want to everyone to know it exist.  Kyle owns, manages and operates the place elegantly.   His customer service skills are impeccable and I got the feeling my interest and business weren't brushed aside.  He helped me out as much as he could within the confine of the law and not out to nickel and dime me unfairly.  Not only that, but he is the type dude you could have a conversation with and not a-bored-out-of-their-mind employee.  Bonus points for having and adorable German Sheppard.

*This is non scientific and totally pulled out of my butt.

Edwardo's Natural Pizza

My friends and I were in the mood for Pizza and according to the GPS this was the closest thing available.

We walked in and the hostess looks at us like we were begging for food.  She says "in or out", we are a group of 6 mind you.  I said in and she proceeded to give us menus and find us a table.  We waited, waited and waited.  Nothing.

After ~10mins, no one looked our way; not even for drinks!  I felt like I had my cloak of invisibility on or something.  My friend got up and asked what was going on and all she got was a "I'll be right there".

After that, we got the hint and left to Pat's Pizza a couple of blocks.  Worst customer service ever.

My sisters and I stumbled upon this park during our stay in Chicago.  I enjoyed the chilled vibes it has;  zen like.  Oddly enough it reminds me of Puerto Rico because of it being so close to the lake and the people's laid back attitude. It was clean and well maintained.  I would go again.

This flea market was better than expected.  I have been to a ton of flea markets in my day and this one was as hippie as it gets.  I had a blast browsing the scene.  I left broke but with a smile on my face.

This is dive bars are suppose to be dirty, cheap and unapologetic.  I hear a ton of stories from the locals about how this place used to be nice.  The nights they had .25¢ draft things got insane, but fun.  Their cheese steaks were hit or miss, in a make you sick or not sort of way, but tasty.

I think is a shame the best night I had there was there was their last.  They close about a month about, RIP 15 North.

I'm glad that I grew the balls to show up to meet up with a bunch of online people.  I could not have imagine a nicer group of folks; everyone was really nice (read: normal) and had their own distinctive personalities as their reviews lead to believe.  I think is great to put an actual person behind the words.  I had a great time.

Red Sky

3 star rating

For reasons unknown to mankind, last Saturday, my friend decided to celebrate her birthday at Red Sky .  Despite my better judgment and previous burns from this place I decided to swing by.

I've been there with "the bros" years previous and hated it with a passion.  Back then I remember they charged us around $12 for a well drink that same drink would be $3-6  elsewhere!  I'm not cheap at all but that was highway robbery.  Also, back then the cover was negotiable and people didn't smoke inside.  Now people smoke and it was free to get in. If I had to review as it was it would get a 1 star out 5.

So, why the hell am I giving it 3 stars?  Well, my friend might have questionable taste in venues but boy can she plan ahead!  As soon as we arrived the server acted as she was expecting us and promptly took us to a section for ourselves.  She served sparkling wine to all in a professional yet gentle sort of way.  An hour went by and everyone was having, dare I say it, a great time mingling and even the girls who didn't come with were surprised friendly (in good way).  Furthermore, freaking Benjamin Franklin (or some dude dress as him) showed up!!  How crazy was that?!?

Anyway, the bottles ran out and it was back to reality.   Knowing I could not spend the whole night I bounced to my secret lair (the Barbary).  That night showed me that you could have a great time anywhere with a bit planning.

The Note

Category: Music Venues

4 star rating

I think The Note is a proper place to check out live bands.  My problem is the type of bands that they book there.  It just gives me the impression they come straight from Bam's iPod; which could be great thing if you are a fan.

I as far as the place goes it's a lot like North Star Bar size wise but a bit classier.  Locals tend complain about the price of the cover and drinks but I have no issues there.  I've seen a couple of shows there and had a great time.  Though, I wouldn't call it perfect it is still a great place to see a band live that you might know.

The Colonial Theatre

I had the chance to catch Suspiria last Friday with some friends.  Honestly though, I paid more attention to the theater than the film.

This place is like a time portal to the prohibition times; I even daydreamed Baby face Nelson bursting out of one of the exit curtains(?) with a Tommy gun like the movies.  Furthermore, little details like how the rows have assign letters, a sweet balcony and one employee on duty sets this place apart from any other theater I've ever set foot on.  Awesome.

Yelp's Sideshow Adventure

Category: Local Flavor
Neighborhood: Northern Liberties

5 star rating

For me, Rule #1 when it comes to free events is to go in with rock bottom expectations and Rule#2 a full stomach; this was not the exception.

As soon I walked in good vibes demolished any negative condemnations.  The guys and gals at sign in table were super friendly and totally set the mood for the event for me.  After a quick tour I could instantly tell this was not Philly as usual.

First of all, the crowd was a very interesting mix; not to forget good looking.  Even though this was my first Yelp event there were a some familiar faces from the Philly scene, which is always nice.  Other than that I seriously spent most of my time there in awe and torn as of who to approach but that definably didn't stop people from introducing themselves and proceeding to tell some of the craziest stories, but all in good fun.  I guess I'm just not used to having so many people that looked like they had something to say around me or maybe I'm just hanging out in West Chester way too much.

As far as the place went, I thought it fit the bill nicely, though at time felt too small for that amount of people.  I personally liked the art style of most of the paintings; too bad I couldn't locate an author anywhere.  The margaritas were loaded and I can't comment on food because we didn't bother.  Dj Deejay did his thing well but in my humble opinion the sideshow took the prize.  Granted, I'm way too much of a wuss to see all their acts to completion  but  I still had a great time seeing other people wincing with me.  Bravo to them.

My only nitpicking complain would be that it was on a Thurs night; which for me means moderation.  Overall, my friend and I had great time regardless if it was free or not.  For the complainers out there I leave you this side note "Anything free is a lot like sex, no matter how crappy it is, it's still mostly good".

Thank you Carrie E and crew for setting this up, you guys are A-ok in my book.
