Turbo Spa Repair

If you are looking for someone to service your hot tub or spa, look no further than Jim Strother's Turbo Spa.

I recently had Jim by to look at a problem I was having with my Jacuzzi.  After spending a half hour testing different components he gave me an honest evaluation and even recommended I contact the dealer to get the best price.  I asked him what the cost was and he stated there is no charge if he didn't fix the problem.

Frankly I was shocked that there wasn't even a service fee that I was more than willing to pay just based on all of the advice and direction Jim provided.

Whether you need a repair or purchase a spa cover call Jim, you will not be disappointed!

I found this place very quaint. My waiter Vini was the nicest waiter I've ever had at a casual dining restaurant. The pizza was thin just the way I like it!

After reading many of these reviews I was looking forward to giving Kotobuki a try.  It was pricey as already written. What was missing was ambiance, taste and fish. Wasabi in a cut roll? Fish so thin it wasn't even there?  I'm all for local charm but there are better options available.

If you are a hobbyist, Military Hobbies in Orange, CA is the place for you.  In a time where most hobby shops have limited stock, Military Hobbies has a large selection of plastic military, airplanes, helicopters and naval models.  Military Hobbies reminds me of what independent hobby shops used to be and still should be today.

Support your local shop and get the full experience of browsing the aisles and being around fellow modelers who enjoy their craft.

Tranquil Tea Lounge

When it comes to tea, Tranquil Tea has you covered.  It's billed as an upscale cafe complete with upscale prices on tea and limited food offerings.

The decor is quite modern yet comfortable.  I find myself really rooting for Tranquil Tea but alas they've come up a bit short where it counts.

Sure the tea is great, but only select menu items are a value for your money.  For instance the turkey sandwich I tried was rubber.  The presentation has even changed a bit in the past few weeks.  The last time I was hear the Cerviche was something to brag about, this visit, it was more pico de gallo than albacore.

I'm still giving Tranquil Tea 3 stars since it's very promising.  My advice if you're going to command premium prices, deliver top quality food.

Little Green Onion

Halfway between LA and Palm Springs we stopped off at the Little Green Onion.  This diner is a gem that I wish was closer to my own home.

It's located in a late 60's strip plaza that give the diner an authentic look and feel.  The food is so cheap I almost felt guilty.  The diner fair with many Mexican favorites was very good.

Aside for being asked if we wanted chips and salsa with breakfast (who does that?), it was a very traditional diner experience and I'm sure to be back the next time through.

Just returned from a trip out to Palm Springs.  I went with the reviews on Yelp to specifically try out this place for lunch.

First it was busy, we just beat the lunch crowd and the wait looked at least an hour by the time we were ready to leave.  I can see the location made it a very attractive spot.

Second the food is good, not $10 for a mimosa or two pancakes good, but good.

Third the service is not very good.  The server never returned to check on us after we received our food or offer a drink refill.

Lastly they don't take American Express, huh?  How can a transplanted LA cafe charging LA prices not afford to take AMEX?

Overall the decor and location are nice but the value is not there for your money.  I would have given it 3 stars but no AMEX dropped it to 2.

Laventina's Big Cheese Pie

Based on the reviews here on Yelp I decided to give Laventina's Big Cheese Pizza a try.  First off this is a really good pizza.  The ingredients taste very fresh with a good amount of cheese and sauce.

I started off with a plain cheese pizza to get a good flavor of the base ingredients.  The sauce is sweet; not watery; very satisfying.  I also like their choice in cheese since it breaks instead of pulling apart.  The crust is light, airy and pretty thin.

Personally I don't consider this New York Style since the crust is just not thin enough nor crispy.

Oh and by the way it's cheap as heck!

Overall this is a very good pie.  I'd suggest ordering it with your favorite zesty toppings to spice up the flavor.

Westside Bar & Grill

We were back to the Westside for our third visit yesterday.  This is a great local bar where the food brings us back time and again.

It's definitely a watering hole for the locals with a very friendly atmosphere and a certain charm.  The place looks like it had a fairly recent remodel and was well done with plenty of space for bar patrons and diners alike.

My favorite item on the menu has to be the pizza.  I think I finally found good pizza in California!  I'd recommend the thin crust and one size larger than you think since you'll definitely want to take some to go!

RooterWorks Plumbing & HVAC

Luis is an excellent choice if you are in need of a plumber.  He shows up when promised and always meets his quoted price which includes a 1-year warranty.

He is an especially good choice if you have an older home like I do.  I have had instances where plumbers wouldn't even work on my home since they didn't understand plumbing from the 50's.

Luis has been working on various plumbing jobs around my home for 4 years now and I've never have had an issue or complaint.
