I just stopped by here for lunch with a coworker, and I was very impressed. I had a small lunch: the grilled squid w/ borlotti beans, and the roasted Brussels sprouts with a red pepper and nut pesto-y thing. The squid and beans were very well cooked, and the sprouts done just right. In a neat little flourish the latter came served in a small cast iron pan.

My coworker had the cheese flatbread (i.e., pizza), which he said was exceptionally good: the ingredients did not feel dried out; the cheese was moist.

Their menu (which is the same throughout the day) seems geared towards lunch fare: flatbreads, sandwiches, starters, salads. There are more expensive full plates which I might drop by to try some evening. All in all, very happy to see this addition to the dining scene in the financial district.

Extra Space Storage

I stored some things here in a 5x5 unit for two months and had a perfect experience. Setup was great -- the manager at the desk was extremely friendly and helpful, and the in-person signup process was smooth as can be. I had both a lock on my storage space and a unique passcode to get into the facility after hours (if I remember correctly the passcode was good until about 10pm).

My two months passed uneventfully. I went back to the storage space a few times to grab some stuff, and everything was good.

The only hitch was that I was told from the outset that if I didn't have my stuff cleared out by the end of the second month's billing cycle, I'd be charged for that month. So I busted my ass to get everything out on the last day of the second month, only to discover (online, as this was a Sunday) that I needed to give them a week's notice so they wouldn't rebill me! I was pissed but resigned to my fate. They charged me for the third month.

Lo and behold, about a month later I get a check in the mail from Extra Space Storage for the full amount of the third month! They fixed it without me even asking or making a fuss. THAT is what I call service.

This place is totally fine for what it is: a big $10 salad/soup buffet (plus a few pastas and breads).

I've gone here about three times so far and I've only ever seen good produce, so I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about when they say the produce is bad. Though those reviews are a few years old now.

The soups are good and change pretty frequently, and I was surprised to see that they even have a soft serve machine in addition to all the other stuff. Not bad for the price! I'll be coming back here frequently while I'm in town.

Tortilleria la Mexicana

Look, I'm from Boston so I don't *really* know from Mexican food, though I do seek out good Mexican wherever I go. What I do know is this: the tortillas on these tacos are the best  I've ever had. The torta was great too, I think it was the first time I ever had a torta and didn't regret ordering it! (I usually find them too plain.)

The salsa bar is fantastic and I was especially pleased to see that they included grilled jalepenos and grilled spring onions (!) along with all the mild-to-extremely-hot salsas!

I was visiting town for the weekend and tried slices at about five different places around Manhattan and Brooklyn that came recommended via Yelp, friends, and my own personal experience. Pino's was the clear winner.

Crepes on Columbus

I went here early on a Saturday morning, before breakfast rush. My girlfriend and I ordered cafe con leche, and it came out really terribly burnt. On the other hand, our breakfast dishes came out perfect. The ouef Columbus (poached eggs, potato pancake, ratatouille) was incredibly savory, and the croque madame was very good although the egg wasn't cooked into the sandwich so much as placed on top.

We ended the meal with a very nice bannana nutella crepe and an unwelcome surprise: they charged us for refills of regular offee! I wish I'd known that before accepting their refill offers...

Anyway, it was a nice enough breakfast despite the missteps.

I certainly didn't experience any of the snooty service complained about in other reviews here. I stopped in for a drink before dinner on Valentine's day, not realiizing it was Bar Boloud until I was seated! (The sign outside is pretty inconspicuous.) I was frankly underdressed in a T-shirt, but my date and I experienced excellent bar service and some of the best cocktails we've ever had.

Cafe Fiorello

I think there are two kinds of Italian-American restaurants. Those with fried ravioli on the menu, and those without. Cafe Fiorello lies squarely in the "with" category. This ain't a value judgement, just a fact! We're talking mild kitsch, big portions, and lotsa meatballs.

I came here hoping for a relaxed Valentine's dinner, and that's exactly what I got. We had the fried cauliflower appetizer which was delicious although served cold (my fault for forgetting that antipasto is usually served cold).

I had the open face lasagna, which was about twice as big as I expected. Whoever thought of making a pizza with lasagna instead of bread crust deserves to be in some kind of screwed-up history book. My date had the crab cakes, which were extremely meaty and came with some nice aioli.

For dessert we split the profiteroles. Can't go wrong with profiteroles, and Fiorello did a pretty good job on these!

All in all an enjoyable meal, and I might go back to try the lasagna again!

These guys are great. I took my jacket in to get the zipper fixed (yes, they do zipper repair). They quoted me $10, which was fine. I dropped it off at 9am, and they had it ready for me by 5pm.

When I picked it up, they said they fixed it but there was a slight problem: they couldn't replace the zipper itself because it's apparently a kind of zipper they don't have on hand. So instead they kind of reseated it and fixed it that way. The "problem" meant that they fixed it for $5 instead of $10!

I can handle problems like this in my life.

Anthony's Barber Shop

Category: Barbers

Anthony's is a hidden gem, tucked away in an office park. I wouldn't have ever known it was there if I hadn't seen their sandwich board on the sidewalk and decided I needed a haircut right then. And I'm so glad I did: Anthony provides not a just a great haircut, but also tells great stories and (off-color!) jokes while he's cutting your hair. He even gave me business advice a few times.

I live in the Boston area now, but I still occasionally get my hair cut when I find myself in Worcester just to catch up with my old barber. It's this kind of place that makes me actually miss living in Worcester!
