Tiger's Yogurt
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
I ordered a small half red velvet half white chocolate almond (sugar free). I was embarrassed at the size when he set it down. I even looked back up to see that I ordered correctly. I had. My companion ordered the Oreo and cream and when he saw mine went to go change the size, but it was too late. I've had cookies and cream flavored yogurt at other places that was good but this tasted just like the real deal.
Their yogurts are huge and well worth the price you pay. Plus, you can get fat free red velvet cake!

My friend ordered the buffalo burger and we waited for what seemed like FOREVER. As I saw other people's food come out, I kept thinking, "oh, I should have ordered the carne asada fries!" or "I should have got onion rings!" As I wiped the drool away from my face, I knew that the wait would be worth it and it was!
My burger was huge! I didn't miss that cheese at all. I did ask for some extra secret sauce because my perfectly toasted bun was a little bare. As I took my first bite, I knew I had found the best burger in town. The garlic fries looked really good and did not disappoint one bit. They were actually the best ones I've had in forever. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned and I heard in between "OMG" and "This is F'n good" comments that the buffalo burger was the same.
I took more than half of that bad boy home and had a whole 2nd meal out of it. So, not only was the taste excellent but the prices are VERY good. As we went up to pay, we noticed their extensive beer selection. Having full bellies, we couldn't fathom taking in any more anything so we tried to order a few brews to go. Not to be had :( Unfortunately, their liquor license is such that you can't get any cans or bottles to go. Sucks because I really wanted to try the coconut porter from Maui Brewing Co.
So, the food was 5 stars but the slow service and no beer to go dropped them to 4. I can only imagine that the slow service was a one time deal. I'll be back to let them redeem themselves.
They had a bunch of specials on the board that I didn't get a chance to see because we were seated so promptly. I was hoping our waitress would tell us what they were but I forgot after waiting for a while and she didn't offer them up. We ordered some garlic cheese bread to start us off and it was awesome! The bread they serve isn't that great (basic store bought) and could definitely be improved upon.
I opted for the Penne Norcina which has a spicy, creamy, Italian sausage filled red sauce. I normally am not big on red sauce but this one was excellent! The amount of pasta served was more than enough for two meals and was just as great the next day.
My date had the Spaghetti e Polpette and said the meatballs were really good. I tasted a little bit of the sauce and it was just like my dish without the heat. Their pizza options sound pretty good and I'll definitely come back to try one of those or the calzone. Also, saw on the board on the way out that they had eggplant parmesan as a special. I'd be interested in trying that as well if it's an option next time.

Gatsby's Diner
Categories: American (Traditional), Burgers
The menu isn't huge but offers a lot of veggie options which is nice. They even have beet sliders! We ordered the Gatsby burger and a peanut butter and chocolate shake, as well as the apple pie ala mode shake.
I don't like real dark chocolate shakes and was afraid that the pb shake would be too rich. It was actually perfect! My apple pie shake was pretty good but lacked a little in flavor. The burger and house cut fries made up for everything. They get their buns from the Grateful Bread company and they were excellent. The patty was nice and thick and actually way too much for me to eat. The fries were perfectly crisp and salted. I got a side of their house made ranch for the fries and was surprised at how good it was. It would be better on a salad, though.
I was a little hesitant ordering Indian food from a place that offers so many types of food but the tikka and curry dish I ordered was really good. The chicken was tender and the flavors perfect. The naan I ordered wasn't that great, though. It was flavorless and chewy.
I got there around 7:30 and they close at 8, so I asked if everything was available, particularly the Indian food. The owner said yes and that it's one of their most requested items. Weird. The decor is nothing special and it's pretty hidden in a little strip mall but it's definitely worth a try.

Redberry Yogurt
Category: Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
Besides really good yogurt and toppings, the other thing that makes this place stick out is the service. They are always helpful and friendly. The gal working on Saturday evening brought over a mango tango sample with a crystallized lychee topping for us to try. It was really good and I know I would have never thought to try that topping on my own.

I had a hankering for some yogurt tonight and was in the area of this establishment. Walked in, checked the flavors and was promptly greeted by the gentleman working there who offered up a taste if we wanted and explained the differences in the yogurts. I tried the mango tango sorbet and it was really flavorful without being overly sweet or tart. It also didn't have the lingering taste of the cleaner they use on the yogurt machines like some places do. I got my mango tango mixed with vanilla and proceeded to over do it on the toppings like I usually do.
Overall, it's your basic yogurt place but it was noticeably clean and the friendly worker were huge bonuses compared to other yogurt places in the area.

Huong Lan Sandwiches
Categories: Sandwiches, Vietnamese
I finally tried their Pho and was pleasantly surprised. I got the rare steak and meatball soup and it came out piping hot and had just enough meat and veggies to make my tummy full. The broth was tasty but not quite as good as I've had at other places. I'd still come back and order it. Only, next time I'll just get the steak sans the meatballs. The flavor was good but I couldn't get past the spongy, chewy texture.
The thing that kills me about this place is the disorganization and clutter. As a newbie, I was a little confused with the two cashier lines. I thought one was for drinks and one for sandwiches but later figured out you can actually order anything from both. But, you can also sit and place your order but have to get in that horrible line to pay. People also butt in and out of the lines. The service isn't all that friendly but not horrible.
I really think it's a 3.5 star joint.
I couldn't agree more with T.C's review. The menu is limited and some items seem decently priced (Bento Box $6.95) and others seem a little on the high side. Well, the bento box SHOULD be $6.95 considering all you get is one item and a side salad. The size was reasonable enough for the price but my teriyaki beef wasn't very flavorful. I'd gladly pay more to get some miso soup (which they don't even offer) or a gyoza on the side.
The only good thing I can say is that the people there were very friendly. They also have these cool little Japanese fighting fish bowls attached to the walls. I'll take a picture next time I go...oh wait, there won't be a next time.

Yelp Elite Event @ Tre: 'Tis the Season of Change
Category: Local Flavor
I met one of the owners of Tre and he seemed very friendly. I was impressed with the place and I'm glad they hosted this event so it gave me an opportunity to see what they are all about.
I love that I finally got to meet some of my fellow yelp peeps and hang out with some that I already know. I haven't tried out my yelpstick yet but I have worn my "I Heart Yelp" button!

It was kind of weird walking in to a very dark room but I immediately felt comfortable after Sue/Susan greeted us. We got the run down on the tasting. It's $5 for a five wine tasting and $10 for a full tasting. I hadn't eaten yet so I opted for the $5 dealio. I tasted the Pinot Grigio and found it surprisingly pleasant and refreshing. I'm not a big white wine drinker so I'm always excited when I find something I like. It won't be released until the end of February so I may go back and pick up a bottle.
Next, was the Verdelho wine. I'm almost positive that I've never tried this anywhere else and I absolutely loved it. It's really like nothing I've tasted before. I think Sue called it a "winetini" and that is a great way to describe it because it has a green olive taste to it. But, it isn't bitter or too sweet. I bought some to try this summer with a nice light meal.
The Renzo, Sangiovese and Grenache were all very nice and light. I'm going to make an effort to come back during one of their happy hours (Thursday & Fridays) to try a glass or two of some of the wines I missed. Or, during one of their music event nights.
They will be moving in the next few months to a location on S street, near Temple. It seems that they have outgrown their current space. I really enjoyed my visit here and found Sue very imformative and friendly.
