This $10 chicken reminds me of something...

...oh, yeah, it tastes just like $2 Swanson frozen tv-dinner chicken!

"Shoe Nazi" indeed. I've been visiting him for years to get my dress shoes shined and restored after many nights of destructive dancing. For a long time I disliked this guy because I always felt that he was rude and trying to hustle me into buying more than I needed. I only gave him my business because he was closeby.

Over the years, I've realized his "rude" treatment is just his style and is certainly not genuinely rude -- far from it. It's just a backwards sort of charm. Now when he tells me "you don't know nothing about shoes...let me take care of you", I simply share a laugh with him and say "ok ok you're right, you take care of me!"

Oh, and it turns out him trying to "hustle" me into buying new soles the past two years was him recommending a desperately needed repair that would have saved me a lot of damage. I just never took the time to listen to what he was saying.

Good man if you can understand and jive with his style =)

I had the Philly Cheesesteak with Whiz, Onions, and Sweet Peppers. Not horrible, but not remarkable in any way. I heard nothing but rave reviews and walked away...exceedingly ambivalent. Overrated?

I lived in Japan for about a year and used to get my hair cut at a salon in Harajuku. Since returning to Seattle, I've been looking for a place to get a similar Japanese-style haircut that still manages to work with my fine white-man hair. I think I've finally found that place at Ten Pachi.

My haircut with Yuki was everything I was hoping for, and so cheap! Only $20 for such a professional cut is AMAZING. Highly recommended!

Be sure to make an appointment beforehand -- they are very busy and walk-ins are difficult to get. Their website is the easiest place for that.

Been going here for years and I find myself in agreement with many of the other reviewers here. The coffee is pretty good, the environment is dim but comfortable, with lots of table space to get studying done. The food is definitely WAY overpriced and not usually worth it. I tried one of their "gourmet" burgers last night and was not impressed. The picture on their banner is blatant false advertising -- it's just a stock photo of a cheeseburger, what I received didn't even have the same ingredients. The ciabatta-esque bun was nice but everything else was dry. Should have taken my burger business across the street to A Burger Place.

Salon Juno

I lived in Japan for a while and had my hair cut regularly in Harajuku, at the behest of my then-girlfriend. The stylist there always managed to give me a Japanese style with my white-man (fine, greasy) hair that grew out nicely and looked nice with or without styling. I'd hoped Salon Juno would help me preserve that look upon my return to Seattle and, at the recommendation of a friend, made an appointment.

I found the service rushed, far less than friendly, and the cut to be not much like what I pointed at in the magazine. The cut got worse as it grew out and so it was an overall unpleasant experience.

I ate here about a year ago. I was living in Japan at the time, so I knew my ramen. This was the worst ramen experience I've EVER had. The waitress didn't seem to care much for our existence, and the food came late and cold. The broth was thick and nasty, I was only able to finish half of my bowl before I lost my appetite. To top it all off, I saw at least three cockroaches crawling around. I won't be returning to this place.

Ichiro Teriyaki

Categories: Japanese, Korean
Neighborhood: University District

I used to go to this place a lot from 2002-2005. The owners have changed several times since then, and I feel the quality dropped a bit when that happened. Ichiro is now a pretty standard-fare "Teriyaki but oh-yeah also Korean" joint.

The teriyaki is unique and therefore polarizing; you like it or you hate it. I was always partial to a combination of katsu and gyoza. Ichiro has always given a generous portion of rice and salad with their very-reasonably sized entrees, so they score points for value.

The interior is definitely cramped and not the cleanest anyone has ever seen. They DO always have the TV blaring, which can be distracting, but at least the volume is generally kept muted or low.

It ain't great, but it ain't terrible. But if you're in the mood for it, it can definitely hit the spot.
