Rule 1 when going to Border Cafe: STAY NORTH OF THE BORDER - make sure to tell the host you want to stay upstairs - If you don't they will always try and seat you on their basement level, which takes quite a bit away from the experience.  They do a great job with margaritas and serve up quality Tex/Mex fair. Order on the lighter side as the bottomless chips and salsa will prevent you from finishing a big meal. Also to consider if you're driving here is the parking situation - it's in the heart of Harvard Square, which means you will be hunting for a spot or paying to park in a lot across the street from the restaurant.

I really like this place for Sunday Brunch - Opens at 11am and there's a ton of people lined up by 10:40am. I normally don't order the same thing over and over, but they do such a damn good job with poached-egg-on-top-french-toast that I struggle not to get sucked back into ordering it every time. Everything they prepare is brilliant and they regularly have interesting specials that are must tries. Go here.

There's nothing not to like about Eastern Standard Kitchen. I'm a regular for breakfast through to 1:30am drinks. Food is always good, service is excellent. They know Good cooking, proper cocktails, wine and how to give you an extremely welcoming experience. They Occasionally have an Icelandic menu as part of Taste of Iceland that is not to be missed. If you're on the fence, don't be, go there now.

Best bar if you're stuck in Newton Center and can't get into Boston for something better. The place gets better in the summer with outdoor seating. Has what you would expect: Drinks and a menu that goes well with drinks. Forget about hearing yourself think if one the local teams is playing, but in that case, forget about trying to get a table there anyway as it's packed with more people than a T-Train after a Bruins game.

I heard Elia Taverna has fantastic Greek food and it certainly does. I wasn't expecting much being that the restaurant is in a strip mall, but I instantly got over that upon entering the establishment which has a well designed atmosphere.  The food was really Fr#$n good. They have a good amount daily specials - definitely try the eggplant appetizer and order their lemon potatoes with your main course if it doesn't come with them, as they are not to be missed.  Biggest surprise of the night was the group of 25-30 people waiting outside in 40 degree weather waiting for tables to free up - note to self, make reservations for my return visit, which there certainly will be.

Look no further for BBQ - This is the BEST BBQ I've ever had in Boston. My wife being a Southerner, is addicted to their collard greens and black eyed peas. Their brisket is off the hook. Make sure to order the potatoes and/or biscuits with your meal. They also know how to mix a good cocktail. Definitely NOT a paper towel BBQ joint, they nailed the atmosphere perfectly and the place was packed on a frigid Tuesday night.

The food is quite good, they have a mix of authentic and new age Mexican dishes. Service is good and quick, few windows and very pricey for Mexican cuisine.

A true gem in Brookline Village - You actually forget you're in Brookline when dining here, feels more like a swank city restaurant.  Pomodoro is a great for date night or dinner for a night out with friends.  The food is superb and the waitstaff are great.  Only downside: cash only.

I hit up Woodman's every time I find myself in the Essex, Gloucester region. If you like lobster, clams or fried fish in a super casual environment, this is definitely a place to try out.  Downsides: very popular so be prepared to wait in line.  Pick up window inside so no table service, which means the tables aren't always clean when you get to them. Heads Up: Everything on the menu is either fried or steamed, so you must be either a steamed shellfish or fried fish fan to enjoy.

The two best things to come out of Buffalo: buffalo wings and beef on weck - these guys have beef on weck down.  The roast beef is cooked perfectly and sliced super thin so you don't have to fight it.  The weck bread has the right amount of pumpernickel and crystalized salt. Now about their chili, it's damn good, but don't be surprised to find the beef ingredient to be more akin to brisket than to ground beef - I found it to be a really nice take on chili. Waitstaff is excellent.
